Is Canada at a point where a win against Peru should be expected?

As Peruvian, I would say that unless you are Argentina or Brasil, never look down to a team. Conmebol is filled with histories of teams better in paper losing against a "weaker" one. Just look the Brasil vs Costa Rica the other day. Canada has a good team but Peru won't be easy. This guy Jimmy should do some research before talking or limit himself to rugby!

I'm not sure we should be confident in beating an inferior Peru when we haven't scored a goal yet. Canada is hopeless at breaking down a low block, so Peru can sit in a low block and then break. One thing I am sure will be true with Peru: they will be more clinical than Canada has been. So if Canada wants to win this match, they better come out like a Bat Out of Hell and score two goals in the first half. THEN I will be confident that they can hold for a win.

    Peru is a tough team.
    4th and 2nd in the last 2 Copa America’s.

As a Peruvian-Canadian, I'll agree on some points and disagree on others. Peru is in last place, not because of the players, but the ex-coach Reynoso not knowing how to set up tactics and the FA being too cheap to retain Ricardo Gareca that he left, caused Peru to lose games. Also Peru has made the Copa American semi-finals the last 4 Copa's, so I'd say Peru rises to the occasion in this tournament. The only thing Canada has going for it against Peru is it's young speedy players playing on better top teams than most Peruvian players, but again, it's not about individual players, but about the team's cohesiveness. Right now, the new Peruvian coach is mostly testing his lineup choices for the upcoming WCQ games starting at the end of the year, but I expect the game to be chippy and Canada to be favourites, but barely. Peru will play this game like Chile with hard physical tackles, so I expect a war on the field for field possession and hope Canada realizes this too.

Expecting Peru to play dirty. Low skilled, low talented South American teams play that way.

Nolbertos, you stated that "the only thing Canada has going for it", like this is a one dimensional team. You clearly did not watch the Concacaf 2022 world cup qualifiers, when Canada finished #1, over the likes of the USA & Mexico & defeated both of them too. In those matches, Canada played very gritty, very hard played, tough futbol, as they played through flooded muddy fields & in extreme heat & also cold snowy pitches, the likes that I don't think that Peru has ever seen. Oh yeah, Canada's team played as tough as any team could have played & did that as a "brotherhood", playing as a close tesm.
The USA fields are really like 2nd homes to Canadians, because we have playef there so much.
Canada will be humble & respectful; but honestly, Canada has the better talent, the youthful speed, an excellent team spirit & a great coach.
Respectfully, the only advantage that Peru "has going for it" is an old experienced team with past successes. While we respect that, you have to admit that typically talent, speed, along with very good coaching & discipline win out.
      May the best team win!

@@jrcanuck1 Yeah except Canada LOST on those flooded muddy fields in extreme heat. AND lost when wins would have put them in Bowl C and a more manageable draw. Canada ended up getting spanked in Qatar in large part because they couldn't win in flooded pitches under extreme heat.

Crepeau has a shot at going to Europe too, if he keeps goaltending as he has so far.
Liam Millar must also be opening some eyes.
It will be 34 C (93 F) @ 6:00 pm gametime in KC. Can Canada keep the very demanding 'Press' pace up for the full match, or will we see a big drop-off in the 2nd half?
Can our subs keep the quality at a high level? We know that Richie Laryea, Shaffleberg & Kamal Miller can... I believe that Ahmed & Choiniere can too.
Keep in mind that Peru have not given up more than 1 goal in their last 6 matches & one of those teams was Venezuela (in late 2023), so, even if we believe that we have the better team, we must enter into this being confident; but humble & we should be expecting a hard fought match with a relatively low score (i.e. 1 or 2 to nothing).

We absolutely should be beating both Peru and Chile. The Chile match will certainly be a lot tighter due to them still having Sanchez on the pitch. Peru, on the other hand, should not be a match for us now. We've got quality players in every position. Can't say the same for Peru.

If Canada does not advance I will be disappointed and will feel they underachieved. If they advance I will be ecstatic and will believe they overachieved. That’s how neurotic I am about this team.
Canada needs some success here. I sure hope they can do it.

We, Peru, have left out of the world cup Ecuador and Chile in the past, and both with better teams and players than Canada. Just saying....
