Amy was 6 and her sister Bonnie was 3 when passed away. So that's why school is involved. She never recorded a video or played live because it's too hard for her."Like you " is also about her late sister. And sometimes i think "Even in death" is too about her tho no one said it officially. I also read somewhere that a unknow seizure and a bath were involved. I don't know if that's true but everytime amy is singing about feeling lost, missing someone and longing there's water around her in her videos. It's a pattern
This album is maybe one of the most nostalgic albums for me in so many ways. I always assumed this song was about someone who lost a loved one and became psychotic to the point they never accepted the death as a reality and lives with believing they're not actually gone. A kind of depersonalization or derealization of the death never happening. Kind of the opposite of walking corpse syndrome; an undefined mental illness related to a complicated grief where the stage of acceptance never came to be. After reading that it's about her little sister passing away while they were both young, the words were brought to life for me. From a musical aspect you have that main piano background phrase and the most popular notes are the low B, the Fsharp, the high D.. so those first three notes makes Bminor. But the high D resolves down to a Csharp. Those three notes would make it a Bsus2 or a Fsharp sus4 in a different position. Either way those notes give you a Bsus on top of a Bminor...so potentially a Bmin add 2 that creates so much tension. But keep going you have the middle pitched A. That gives us a DMaj7, B7, so on so on. Really the phrase is Bmin. Bsus2 or Fsharpsus4, resolving to the Fsharpminor. For the most part Bmin to Fsharpmin. Then you have some hope dealing with the AMaj+2 just to go back to that dark Bmin F#min Bmin. At the end I think it's about never fully accepting death but having internal condolences from the fact they life on via your experiences with them. Having a chello solo as the bridge to this song is fitting, almost perfectly fitting. They could have gone for a high register of a violin and that could have worked as well. This song is the musical representation of when someone asks "how's it going" and you out on a fake smile and say "fine" because that's how that formality exists in our current society even though deep down you can't stop thinking about an early death of a loved one and contemplating the entire concept of life and death in a general sense. The ending B minor chord is the nail in the coffin of the idea that death sorrow and loss is simply a part of our lives.
In this song Amy does such a good job with her lyrics and the singing that gets me every time! For the unofficial videos I think its better the ones with the lyrics. Thanks for the reaction!
Thank you! I really appreciate that. Yeah I probably should’ve watched a lyrics video, it definitely didn’t say official video but I thought maybe someone else put it up. My bad lol I think the video threw me off until I read the lyrics. Quite the powerful song.

I’m so sorry to hear about your Dad. Crazy how music can help you through your emotions though. You know it may never fix it, but it helps :) I’m here with you Lori.
My Immortal was written by co founder Ben Moody and was adapted from a short story written about his grandfather that passed away. The song is basically about a loved one that passes away but you can't seem to shake off their presence. Amy is depicted as an Angel or spirit singing about the living persons pain. This is apparently is why she never psychically touches the ground. Some people say she killed herself which is why she has bandages on her wrists. That's not the case. Those are ribbons not bandages, she also has them wrapped around her feet and ankles as well. The original album version did not have the band section at the end. Amy added the bridge and band section later and offered it as a free download for those that bought the album.
That is incredible. Thank you so much, such an amazing song, Amy and the band really have something spectacular:) I feel so bad for her with her sister

I suppose I could’ve found a lyrics video for the song, I feel like the fake video with the song kinda through me off but never the less the message hit me. So sad, and now I can tell to be prepared for “Like You”. Going to send me on another emotional ride?

The demo of "Hello" sounds darker/sadder and Amy's voice more emotional/younger. They added in that demo a vocal pad (2nd verse) + guitar (last chorus) and the piano chords in the 2nd verse are like in the first verse. There are also background vocals which are only hearable if you know where they are placed in the demo. The final version has a violin while they used strings in the demo. I prefer the demo. Would love to know what you think about this demo.

This song tells you her mind split and is running so she will not have to deal with the pain but now she is ready to try to face it but now she finds that they are going to start giving her drugs and fix her. Now she has more to deal with. Then the other song is the next part on what happens. That is why my friend wanted me to hear them together.
