  • Most homes have at least one sliding door, usually, the door leading to the back deck. Some of these doors are good at blocking unwanted noise, and the rest are quite inadequate at soundproofing. But one thing they all have in common is that there are things you can do to make these sliding glass doors more soundproof, and that’s what I will be talking about in this video.
There are many ways to soundproof a sliding glass door, but the best way would be weatherstripping and special weatherstripping.
Glass doors are a pain to try to soundproof because either way, you will need to cover the glass in some way to block the intruding noise. Of course, when you block the glass, you mostly make a glass door useless by not being able to see the view.
I will be focusing on sliding glass doors for indoor and outdoor as well. The reason people are trying to soundproof their sliding glass door is that this is a much higher area for sound pollution than wood doors are; because for a wood door, you would only need to buy a thicker and sturdier door.
I will also be talking about other methods to soundproof a sliding glass door. Soundproofing a sliding door is much more difficult than a traditional swinging door.

Thank you. You gave me more issues to look into on the sliding glass patio doors. Apartments often restrict renters from nails, tapes and hanging rods. Your video is very helpful.

Thanks for this information. I was driving myself CRAZY trying to come up with ideas to lessen the noise of my air conditioning right outside my glass patio doors. The blankets are an excellent idea! Can't wait to give it a try.

im struggling at my apartment with having large and very old balcony sliding doors and an incredibly busy street. my roommate and i moved in about a month ago and are ready to start begging for them to replace the sliding doors with double pane glass doors but we know that may not be an option the landlord is willing to do. what are the best soundproof curtains you would suggest? i get lost on the internet and am definitely needing something thicker than a blackout curtain. help save us from the lack of sleep and lack of help from the landlord... we need a solution fast

The reason is because my god damn neighbors are so inconsiderate and have parties with loud music that don’t end till 3am... it’s a weekday!!! >:(

If using soundproof curtains, does it matter if they touch the ground or not? Would it affect noise reduction?

I am wanting to install a sliding door to separate my staircase from my downstairs offices. We have a small yorkie that barks from time to time and do not want the sound to travel downstairs to the reception or office environment. At you saying I should rather install an Aluminium SWING DOOR opposed to an Aluminium Sliding door ?

Check out our website Soundproofguide.com for some information on your problem. Trying to reduce the amount of noise coming from a home can be challenging to diagnose because of many different factors. One of which is the age of the house and how well it's insulated.
Before you begin your project, you will need to find the weak points of the home in regards to soundproofing. You might need to work on your windows to find ways to insulate them better for noise control. Weak points are usually doors and windows so I would suggest you begin there and see where that leads you.
I have a few articles on how to soundproof a door and windows on our website.
Please contact me if you have any further questions and I will do my best to help you out. And don't forget to subscribe to this channel so you can be updated when new content comes out.
