Thanks for your honesty! I'm 59 and an amateur athlete. I eat a mostly vegetarian diet and don't normally worry about the amount of protein i eat. My recovery time does not appear to suffer from this at all.
I'm in my 60s and yes I bought into the protein assertions, especially for older people (as the claims go) so a year ago upped my protein intake with disastrous results. My who body became inflamed and even developed tendonitis in my shoulders. Today, I lift half what I could a year ago. After my year long failed protein experiment, I'm on my long journey back to where I used to be with lots of deflammatory greens and fiber.
When I get asked "what protein", I always say, "Just what's in the vegetables, thanks!" You'd be surprised how many people then ask if there's protein in vegetables!!!
i give them the mental math/breakdown... I tell them proteins are broken down into amino acids and all foods have amino acids. Then they're a bit more surprised and a light bulb, although dim most times, does go off.
I have a funny story about chickpeas. Well my friend likes the Cici’s near my house. And he paid for me and I just got the salad bar. Well I put a mix of different veggies on my plate. It was a little weird but it worked. Well my friend asked if I had gotten artichokes. And I told him I didn’t. He was like what are those little round things, Aren’t those artichokes? I was like now they are chickpeas LOL!!! He thought that the chickpeas that I had were artichokes LOL!

They sell bacon sandwiches opposite the heart ward in the Oxford (UK) hospital. They also have a memo on the wall saying choose bacon over streaky bacon. The Birmingham hospital says eat what you like because your liver will sort it on the wall by the restaurant selling fry ups, chips and other crap.
Outstanding video. Plenty of interesting answers that will no doubt, trigger the "low-IQ-Foodies" out there. Can't wait to read the comments in a few days. Thanks for posting.
Thank you for this down-to-earth interview 😂 Please make a separate, in depth episode about postmenopausal women and protein. Do they need more protein than before menopause?
I love grating firm tofu (Tofoo brand in the U.K. is my favourite). I grate it and season it for meat free fajita bowls, curries, chilli and stir fries too! It’s a great texture!
Yes, there are MANY foods without eating the nasty okra. Here is the List for you to consider: Chia seeds: A great source of mucilaginous fiber that can be used to thicken sauces and puddings Flaxseeds: Contain mucilage that can be used as a thickening agent, gelling agent, and emulsifying agent Molokhia: Also known as jute or Jew's mallow, this mucilaginous vegetable is often served braised Steel-cut oats: Cooked and cooled steel-cut oats are high in mucilaginous fiber Irish moss: A mucilaginous food Seaweeds: Such as kelp, nori, and kombu, these are mucilaginous foods Aloe vera: A mucilaginous food Slippery elm: A mucilaginous food Marshmallow root: A mucilaginous food Figs: A mucilaginous food Fenugreek: A mucilaginous food Cassava: A mucilaginous food Licorice root:
Hey, I think it’s funny that he says the thing about the protein. I have made several videos where I talk about how we should correct servers when the ask “What kind of protein do you want?” Obviously I’m joking but we need to stop associating dead rotten carcass with “protein” We should called it “dead, rotten, abused carcass”? Please put your suggestions down below.
Yea, he has a busy medical practice with many patients to see. He said quick, and out the door. So yes, if you don't have 4 kids, or you don't work, or have all day, then time is not a concern. By the way, what % of Americans eat a salad for breakfast? I'm guessing 0.001 or maybe just you.
It's just personal taste. The first time I tried okra was in Greece. and I instantly disliked it but I loved how they prepared eggplant and spinach. Some associate okra and collards. I LOVE collards but still do not like okra.
@@danaw23 I get you but it’s more like people have different exposure and connection to different plants and it’s important to build as many connections to as many varieties of plants as possible! But obviously some things are very much up to someone’s palate
Oh shut up you fucking idiot. The bloke didn't mention other people, or cultures at all. What does everyone in the world have to like Okra then? Because if any of them dislike it, you're going to accuse them of disrespecting other cultures and not respecting their place in the world? You fucking dick.
Dr.Davis:Very good to be happy.just follow your heart and keep smiling.

Ooohhh!! Freezing and grating tofu!! Thanks!! 💚💚💚
I’ve got the biggest crush on Dr. Davis! He’s soooo dreamy! Great interview!
Dr Garth! Proteinaholic was such a revolutionary book!

If you eat grains, legumes and nuts, and you get enough calories, you will probably get enough protein to make progress🎉

Chickpeas and seeds! I love how many salad bars have chickpeas and seeds, so I always pile on when I hit up a bar.

I love, okra, LOL, but there is so much variety the world of edible plants, eating one less veggie won't kill us! Great interview, useful info.
About beef jerky, try to dry beets. It is quite beef jerkyish. It could be good to get that to supermarkets etc

The human body is extremely efficient recycling proteins, as long as not in an energy deficit.
The only way I used to be able to eat okra was fried and I'm avoiding fried foods.

Muito bem sr dr garth davis 👏amo suas entrevistas e podcast esclarece muito bem 😃❤
Great interview :)
Excellent podcast
Okra! Me too. I tried to give it another chance recently.... but no; not gonna happen. I love eggplant, though, which some say is similar. Go figure.
I love Okra - when it's prepared well!
Will skip "Is lentils beans?", but you are wrong for the okra :-). Should we go into the advantage of mucilaginous foods?

Why Buddhism is True by Robert Wright is a good one for Garth
Yessss! Okra is DISGUSTING 🤢 thank you!
I love okra, but fruit > beans easily.
I think the restaurants need to be educated. If they would differentiate “plant protein” and “animal protein” it would educate the public too.
Mans a G
💯👍👏👏👏👏
❤
If you grill okra its not slimy, also pickled okra is not slimy either.
Nemam snage .Hvala iLp
👏👏👏😂😂😂 Great doctor
If you think okra is disgusting then you don't know how to cook it..
why can't they just say meat? why can't anyone say meat?
That is a euphemism for dead rotten carcass of an animal. We are trying to get people to see it that way and not associate tortured flesh with food.
Appeal to the higher authority fallacy
You do need protein in animal protein is superior to any plant protein You're just in denial
A fan of Dr. Davis and Plant Based News, but did this guy seriously a smoothie vs a salad for breakfast? LOL.
Can consume more greens, and tastier. You can use your favorite fruit.

Not liking okra is like a little dog whistle for not embracing certain cultural foods and respecting their importance and place in the world
It's just personal taste. The first time I tried okra was in Greece. and I instantly disliked it but I loved how they prepared eggplant and spinach. Some associate okra and collards. I LOVE collards but still do not like okra.
Or…it could be people have different tastes
