This guy is magic! @ 9:17 to 9:26 he makes a van disappear into thine air!
I noticed that too. John is GOOD! 💯👍😁
I can just see your neighbors peeking through the mini blinds saying . . . what's that crazy John up to now with that weird motorcycle :O :O ;)
A trailer is a great addition and a super place to put all that bulky stuff like cloths, jackets, lawn chairs and golf clubs. RT type bikes are perfect for trailer pulling, you will not even notice it's there. Nice.
Looking into the Can Am Spyder ourselves this weekend. Can’t wait to see it in person !
John, I realize this is an older video, and you gave me a good chuckle with your neighbors thinking you were nuts comment, "circling the culdesac". I do the same thing here as well. Keeps my neighbors guessing. I enjoyed your trailer tutorial. I am contemplating purchasing one myself for future travels. Thanks again for all your videos. Enjoy the travels!
I use that part of the cul-de-sac to shoot a few intros, multiple takes,,, "crazy neighbor is driving in circles again and talking to a camera "
@@JohnMiriamsTravelVlog I especially loved a segment in one of your video showing the disappearing passing Van. That was, as they say, "Priceless"! Riding Seasons upon us.....ENJOY!
Great video, very helpful. I appreciate the fact that you shared the dimensions of the Freedom Trailer. I am having mine shipped along with the RT and the motorcycle shipping company needs dimensions for the cost estimate! Thanks. Dr. Michael Laney, Atlanta
be advised from an old trucker. The summer heat on I-80, I 40 and ESP i-10 can and will probably be brutal the further West you go. Have plenty of water. Early starts and early, 2-3 pm off the road. just my thoughts.
thats my plan, 300 miles by 3pm,,, we shall see!
You guys are gonna love that trailer John. We got our Freedom last summer in preparation for a trip around Lake Superior (about 1,800 miles total). We loaded it with a suitcase similar to the one in your video, a 48 quart Coleman cooler, two 36" duffle bags and a couple backpack-size bags. I noticed no changes in the handling or performance of the bike with the exception of increased braking distance. You'll want to test that with a full load before your trip. Regarding the "trailer mode" setting, our 2016 automatically invokes that setting when the trailer is plugged into the bike. As i remember on our 2011 Spyder it was in the Settings menu on the dash. I was able to scroll through it, but since we didn't have a trailer I never used it. Perhaps your 2014 is similar to our 2016 and you won't need to do anything more than plug it in. Backing is certainly tricky because the trailer's so short but take it very slow and make small course corrections and you'll do fine. Enjoy your new trailer and you trip.
Sorry to be so offtopic but does any of you know a tool to get back into an Instagram account??
I somehow forgot the account password. I would love any tricks you can offer me
@Jasiah Dillon instablaster =)
@William Simon thanks so much for your reply. I found the site on google and I'm trying it out now.
Seems to take a while so I will reply here later when my account password hopefully is recovered.
@William Simon it worked and I actually got access to my account again. Im so happy:D
Thank you so much you really help me out!
@Jasiah Dillon happy to help =)
Two things I added John to my trailer was non-slip blanket that Peg uses in the kitchen cupboards. ( we picked it up at the Dollarrama or the Dollar store in a roll ). It is good when you only have a few things in the trailer because it keeps things sitting without sliding around. Also, I bolted on an extension to the Spyder Mudflap to keep the spray when it rains or rock chips off my trailer. It was just a mudflap that I picked up at Canadian Tire ( or any Hardware store ) and cut it to fit then bolted it on the existing mudflap to bring the overall flap closer to the ground. I will look for a picture if I have one to send you. My first trip was 6000klms ( 3728 miles ) and I had it loaded to the gunnels and towed just fine. Just love the trailer.
Elwin
I was just thinking I needed something like that to keep things from sliding around,,,, Thanks
It is suggested that when you are driving fully loaded with a passenger you should adjust your front shocks all the way to the stiffest setting
Yeah John, we've had our trailer and other ones for many years. Pulling behind our Harley and the Spyder. Haven't had any problems while pulling any of our trailers. Knock on wood..... You will enjoy having the trailer. Looking forward to your trip videos...
Glad you finally got the trailer. Good idea to do all the testing, every which way possible. I'm sure your neighbors are used to your craziness by now. Of course, you researched it for many hours, then Can Am changes everything without notice. 😎. I believe this will be a great addition to your adventures. There was a van in the background about 9:40 where did it go?? A black hole?? .😎. Stay Alert. Ryde Safe, in a fun way. Thanks for sharing. 😎.
The van is on "the cutting room floor" When I edit, most of the time its clean, but it hard when moving objects are in the background...
I’m going to ride Route 66 again (I rode it in 2015 with my VTX1300s) and I’m playing with the idea of getting a pull behind camping trailer 😁
That sounds like a great ride,, We want to do that run.
John the 2014 and up RT's do not have a trailering mode. Once you plug your trailer into the harness the bike knows that it is pulling a trailer. 2013 and below you had to activate that function manually.
That would explain why I can not find it,,,,, Thanks
Great looking trailer JOHN
Bob you can store your trailer upright with a carpet under the backend.
Sorry John
Another storage option for your trailer if you have the headroom..... use some pipe, cable and pulleys and hoist it up to the rafters. As long as you can walk under it and or get a vehicle under it you're good to go.
Glad to see things are coming to gether for your epic trip! Thank you for sharing. Ride safe
John, if you do decide to store your trailer on end, be sure to check that your garage ceiling is at least 8 feet high. The Freedom trailer is a few inches shorter than eight feet, but the system I used (see Store Your Freedom Trailer on End videos) will raise the trailer a few inches - To just eight feet!
Thanks George, Measured twice!!
Great video as always. My better half keeps suggesting we get a trailer too, not sure I want to pull a trailer with the various drivers we encounter, however watching this and your up coming videos I might have a change of mind. Did you look at any other trailersÉ
No, primarily because of the style and design of the can am,,
Might not mean much b it I would try to get trailer level I think it would pull better just a inverted hitch bring it up a few inches.45 yr driving and owning 18 wheelers
I'm sure you've figured out a solution by now. I noticed the width of the rear tire and it looks like it would pummel the front of your trailer with rocks and debris. Have you installed a mudflat? Is one needed? Thanks.
The engineers at Can-AM did a good job with the design. The front of the trailer has a plastic coating similar to that used in truck bed liners. very rugged. About 6000 on the trailer, a little mud on the front from time to time, at thats it..
Hope you like it. I had an RT-622 with my 2011 RTS. Used it only 4 times and traded it with the 2011 RTS when I got my 2016 RTS. Am now contemplating getting a Freedom trailer.
So far so good, need to put some miles on it before I can have a real opinion..
Thanks for the video
wow looking good you guys are on your way to a wonderful experience of traveling with a freedom trailer I have had mine for 4 years now and I have no issues I know you said that when you plug up the wiring harness would you get an indication I haven't seen one on my bike and I have a 2015 but your suspension knows that the trailer is there and when you are pulling the trailer you hardly know that it is behind you what helps me at night when I'm pulling the trailer I added some LED lights on the side so I can see the trailer behind me that's an idea but it is a wonderful experience being able to pack with leaving nothing behind this is Cadillac Mike enjoy your freedom trailer now you have the whole package hey by the way I will be contacting you guys sometime this summer when we're headed your way enjoy looking for more videos thanks guys......
The Spyder/trailer combo looks really good John, good luck on your trip. I wish I had the patience required for planning a long trip.
The planning is half the fun!!
Hi John, in the video you mentioned that you had to get an adapter for the trailer. I am faced with the same issue…. Can you advise, where you got the adapter?
Hay Walter, if you are referring to the power cable, they can be found on amazon.
Good video John. Since I'm a solo rider and don't have any really ambitious trips in my near future, I don't think I could use a trailer. I thought your straight line backing looked pretty good. Before long you'll be backing around corners. Enjoy and ride safely. Can't wait for your trip videos!
Where can you find this thing?
What a cool way to travel!
Thanks for the info! Hope the trip went well.
We still have a few weeks before launch,,, counting the days!!
When you installed the hitch for the trailer, did it void the warranty?
Nothing in the extended warranty addressed this. It was a plug and play system.
John, there is a two part UA-cam video (Store Your Can-Am Spyder Freedom Trailer on End) about 2 years old on building a stowage capability much like Pierre did for the RT-622.
Thanks Paul, The issue appears to be the point in which the trailer weight is transferred to the stand, thew new trailer has a new design..
Looks very nice...Take a bit of practice to get used to it otherwise should make your trip nice. !
What do you do about your breaks I have a 2020 spider with less then 17,000 miles and the brakes wore out and took the rotors with them. What kind of pads do you use
Stock parts, our roaters are fine. We are on our second set of pads.
Hello from Walter Williamson
I also have a 2014. Just wondering where and what brand your cup holders and glove box holder. Love the videos. Thanks!
The drink holders are "drink2go" and can be found on amazon. The glove box pouch is Hopnel from BigBikeParts.com. They had been installed when I got the spyder. Lovem.
Interesting. The 2012 model that I had was somewhat bigger than what that looked like. My trailer had a capacity of 622 ltrs.
john do you use a mudflap exstender to keep syuff from flying up on the trailer?
No, I took the trailer on the 28 day trip in 19, very little issue with with tire spray, even in the rain . The front of the trailer has a plastic cover similar to a truck bed liner. so no nicks.
On my 2013 RT I can select trailer mode and I don't have a trailer. It's in the settings somewhere, but I don't remember which menu.
Seems like the trailer tongue is quite long......would the turning radius be different in a good way if it was shorter..?
I did a bunch of test. In a max turn (left and right) the trailer wheels tracked only 6 inches inside the arc of the front wheel.
The trailer does have to be plugged in to signal the Spyder's computer that it is hooked to a trailer. Once you get going down the road you won't even know it's back there.
Watch the reversing! It does look neat.
Not covered in the video, Got stuck in a parking lot on the June trip and had to do a backing turn for the first time,,,, Think Ive got it..
I'm retiring 12/2819, two months shy of my 60th B-Day. I've been a Harley fan for the last 30 years. I sold mine 5 years ago. I realy want the 2020 Spyder RT Limited, but, not sure that will ever happen on a retirement income. If I do somehow manage it, I would definitely get the Freedom trailer because I want to travel and I am by no means a minimalist.
Quick question. Does Can Am make a type of luggage rack for rhe top of the Freedom trailer? Or, possibly an aftermarket company. I know the trailer has a weight load capacity, and you wouldn't want to attach anything heavy to the rack. But, I'm thinking it would expand your capacity a bit
I enjoyed the video. Very well done and informative. Thank you for sharing
The trailer has a max cargo load of 200 lbs. To keep the total weight down the hatch is very light weight and may have issues supporting a luggage rack. ,,,,,
Did you time travel?? 2819?? 😉😉.....just kidding
John check out a fellow in FL that has your answer toyour storage problem. His name is George Hooper. he has a you tube channel also. He has two methods to stand it up for storage aganist the wall. love the videos.
Love those Spyders!
Added note: The RT-622 had two doors while the Freedom trailer has only one. Made packing easier.
How much wight can your trailer pull???
Hay Austin, 400 lbs, and that is with the 1330 engine.
@@JohnMiriamsTravelVlog
Thank you
Good video guys
What did it cost you in $USD John? I'm in Australia BTW. Love your, and Miriam's work! Inspirational indeed.
The base cost was $3100, plus shipping, taxes, fees to the dealership and registration fee. Total out the door was just under $4000. Well worth it in my opinion.
Holy crap that’s a lot of money! I say that in relation to my 5x10 dump trailer only costing $4500ish. More metal, more engineering, etc. Nice addition to your bike but man, that pricey!
Am fm radio..how do you get sirius radio
I have a Sirius subscription with the upgrade to use the app on my phone, I put my phone on the RAM mount, plug in the ear buds. workds great.
Yes but I live in Nevada. And there's a lot of empty spaces and towns that are long distances
john ,did i see a pull handle inside the trailer so someone can escape from inside ? lol
Yep, and in the book it states "No passengers should ride in the trailer". And I was hopping to stretch out and take a nap and let Miriam drive some...
That place must be one of the most haunted places in the US, that grey van just drove into a Paranormal Door and vanished.
Not Paranormal, just a quantum shift between universes!
👍👍👍👍👍 from indonesia
que precio $$$$ sale esta moto can am
search youtube sir there is a guy who made a stand for his trailer out of a motorcycle lift that he bought from harbor freight and he goes through the whole procees was not even that expensive
I will need to search for it, thanks
@@JohnMiriamsTravelVlog search for George hooper he has a two part series on how to go about making your own trailer space saver
You should ask Can Am for channel donations before you buy stuff.
That Spyder/trailer looks perfect together. That the only way I want to go when I take my cross country trip with my wife. Love you insight. I never rode a bike of any sort before but fell in love w/the Spyders. So I made you my Can Am life coach, I'm learning so much from you and your wife. Great team.
Then I would kinda feel obligated to put the product in a good light. If I pay full price and If I do not like a product, I can bash it with no regrets.
@@JohnMiriamsTravelVlog LOL I totally understand
Now im blushing,,,
You will not now it's there
Part one of the video that was mentioned John

For some reason I have my rear light power cable running down that tube from the end all the way forward. This would prevent me from using the insert he recommends. I do not see a easy way to re-route the wires. Rats..
He must be traveling with a woman. A man doesn't need to carry that much crap.
Yep, I was correct.
A suitcase? Please! This is WHY you don't take the women folk on bike trips.
Just take the car. Seriously.
Bullshit!!!! I’m a lady rider and I’m a light packer. Stop with the shade....
Too small. Could have bought a harbor freight trailer that’s 3x as big and 3 times cheaper.
You are correct. But not as cool looking. Not to bash Harbor Freight, they do get a lot of my $$
