    As I have been preparing for my final ride, my banker says I should be riding more these years. Love my banker's attitude.!! You can't take it with you. I remember a quote-" The last check you write should bounce." My younger banker secretly agreed with the quote. You don't get a second retirement time on this side. You and Miriam enjoy your trip. John, I have a 2011 RTS manual transmisson Spyder I bought new in 2011 ( same grey colour as yours). I replaced all the pot metal with chrome, added the GPS system the first year I bought it. I have done many long trips on it with no issues, just lots of smiles. I will be heading into my 11 year of ownership and have never regretted buying it for a minute. I have been in a few snowstorms and was so glad I was on a 3 wheeler for sure, the heat grips sure paid for themselves on those cold days up here in northern Alberta Canada. It still runs like a top, maintenance does make a difference for long life of a Spyder. I hope to keep it for years to come. Loved your update on the history of your Spyder. Take care.

    I ordered and paid MSRP for my 2020 RTL, and have never regretted it. Used some of my IRA $ to pay for the fun I anticipated. Well worth it. Never regretted the purchase. Miles and miles of fun and great trips. Gotta another two week trip from Texas to North Carolina in May, and looking forward to it with friends. Can Am makes a great touring machine! 👮‍♂️

I only can do minor stuff... Oil changes in the apartment parking lot they frown on.. lol ..so I get $$$$ by the dealer but we do have a UA-cam channel with out adventures that we just started,, I thing it's Our Adventures John & Rita

      We run Kumho tires on ours as well and haven't had any problems so far. The kenda tires just wear out way too quick for our liking. The Kumho tires have just as much if not more grip and the haven't worn as fast. Sometimes the decision isn't made by the engineer but the penny pushers who get paid to make certain decisions against what the engineer recommends. I believe this is one of those times.

      @@susierebelryder492 i understand that but Motorcycles need the extra traction because they have a very narrow contact patch where these have a MUCH LARGER contact patch. So traction isn't really an issue and probably +95% of Spyder owners are just casually riding it and not pushing the vehicle's limits. So to pay more for a tire that is just marginally better but will wear out more than twice as fast doesn't make any sense to me unless you are pushing it to its limits.

    Good that yours has been reliable for you. I loved my 2014, even with it's buzzy motor and lackluster brakes. I traded for a 2019, it's a $26,000 paperweight. Constant overheat, pukes coolant, BEST warranty is a complete and total joke. Good mechanics are far and few. CanAm has for all practical purposes washed their hands of it, and I will too, soon. Someone out there will want it... they can swap a motor, or R&R what is likely a head gasket issue, because CanAm won't. That 998 twin had it's quirks, but it started and ran every day. My 19 has 5200 miles on it and has left me sitting somewhere more times than not.

    As an engineer - go with a Kumho or any tire other than Kenda as Kenda IS a car tire all tires on the CanAm are car tires - Lower the pressure front to 14psi rear 26 psi. You should get 45k on tires. Laser alignment is also expensive and no more accurate than a tape measure as all you can adjust is toe which has little affect on handling but does affect tire wear. I would not do spark plugs for at least 100k. You are right however that $365 per year on maint is pretty good. You have made good choices and the spyders are a definite step up from any two wheel bike

      Great question. Spyder or in a car, I find that the longer I set the tighter everything gets. We shoot for 1.5 hours max between stops. The fit of the Spyder seat and grips
      do a good job. I have added a home made lumbar support that I can move/adjust as needed. I love it. In 2019 after 4 straight days of riding I had to get a massage as it felt like someone had put a knife between my shoulder blades. But I was fine for the rest of the trip. My husband would really enjoy buying and riding a motorcycle but wants me to come along. I have a fear (irrational, I know) of riding on a two or three wheeled motorcycle. I trust my husband's skills and ability to navigate safely. What I fear is "the other guy" on the road, the cars and trucks. Also not crazy about wind in my face (I know, there are helmets with face shields). I just don't understand the draw of this type of travel. Am I being unreasonable?

      Of course not. Never let others decide for you. I would add, one should push ones comfort zone occasionally. The first time I went snow skiing, I hated it and fell a lot. and was sore for days after. The second time, I fell less and was less sore, the third time, I got it and fell in love with it. Then there was mountaineering, tried it, scared myself over and over again, never did it again!!

      @@JohnMiriamsTravelVlog were retired and trying to get my wife onboard on getting one. We did spend alot this year on a new truck and car. I don't like driving the truck that much on a daily basis so I bought a 2009 elantra. 85,000 miles and it was a Florida car so it was like new shape especially the underneath. $5,000. But for tax purposes were going to wait next year I think lol convince the wife 1st. Just wanted to get some info on the spider. Red & black are my colors. The reason for the truck is to mainly pull our 22' camper. It's 2021 GMC elevation. We plan on traveling with it down south from NH so needed something reliable. But miss my motorcycle so the can-am seem would be alot of fun. Weekend trips fall foliage etc.

    You mention replacing the brake pads. Curious why you think the fronts needed replacing after just one year? You put over 15k miles? Also, no mention of replacing the brake fluid. Should be every two years. Brake fluid level lowers as the pads wear. So just adding fluid isn’t the answer. The owners manual has a maintenance schedule. You don’t seem to follow it. Wonder why.

    • @JohnMiriamsTravelVlog
      @JohnMiriamsTravelVlog  2 роки тому

      I was covering the cost of maintenance. DOT 4 is only a few $$ per container and not addressed in detail in the video. The front brake pads replaced in 2018, it had about 4 years and 20K on them.

      @@JohnMiriamsTravelVlog You mention having to replace or service every so often. But fail to mention brake fluid. Engine oil doesn’t get changed every year, but at 3k miles then 6k after that. Basically, you’re video is a bit confusing.

      @@susierebelryder492 We have the 2014 RTL SE6, with the 1330 engine. The book calls for oil changes every 9000 miles or every 12 months, which ever comes first.

      @@JohnMiriamsTravelVlog I’ve been riding for over 42 years. I’ve driven cars much less but have never heard of changing the engine oil every year. I know the manual says to but anyone that knows engines will tell you every so many miles. I think it has something to to with storing the vehicle. I don’t let my vehicles sit for more than a month. I also don’t think about the cost as I like riding motorcycles at any price. If you’re going to talk about “is it worth it?” Then talk about ALL that needs to be done. Many that complain about the cost of servicing really shouldn’t buy one. Spyders (motorcycles) are either fun or they’re not, cost is immaterial.
