      @@brandonkerr93 "God is dead. God remains dead. And we have killed him. How shall we comfort ourselves, the murderers of all murderers"
      What Nietzsche meant by this is that basically all moral and ethical norms and rules we have (like you shouldn't kill and you shouldn't steal) all come from religion. Specifically Christianity for us Europeans/Americans. You can't really say why we have these norms or why they are important logically. Nietzsche was also mentioning Kant and his categorical imperative (maxim) and that it is also based in religion. What he meant by this quote is that once you denounce God and religion and become an atheist, those moral rules no longer have an "anchor". They are no longer based on religion. And therefore, it might become very easy to fall into nihilism and denounce all these ethical and moral rules altogether.
      To be clear, Nietzsche wasn't condoning nihilism, but warning against it. And if you decide to study Nietzsche, know that most of his works and philosophies are outdated. And sorry for the bad English. I'm not native.
      Edit: This is mostly my interpretation. As for the movie, as a christian AND a student of philosophy (those two things can coexist believe it or not) I was extremely offended by this movie. Plus, using Descartes for example to prove God's existence would've been much better. Not to mention many saints were also philosophers (like Augustin or Thomas Aquinas) so a philosophy professor that despises religion is extremely unrealistic.

      The reason I find these Christian movies suck is because they’re just made to make Christians feel good about themselves and to keep them from being a part of the rest of the world. My biggest issue with Christian music, movies etc, is that Christian artists insist on making Christian only content. As a devout Catholic, I’m currently minoring in Shakespeare/Performance at my university. We did Macbeth last year and this year we’re doing Hamlet. I’m reminded of this little anecdote I read once, called “the reason for atheists”
    Basically, a preacher is talking about how God makes all things to have a purpose. One kid in the front, trying to stump the preacher, asks “what is the point of atheists then?” presumably to either the chortling or annoyance of the rest of the audience. The preacher then says that atheists are here to show that you need not believe in anything to be good to others. While Christians can be great and lovely, some use religion to be awful. Atheists who choose respect and love with no God to answer to show us that being good is not some religious idea, it’s purely something humans want to do.
    That story always makes me smile because as someone who believes in some form of God, it shows that no matter what’s out there, we can all be good to one another. We need not agree on everything, we just need to respect each other as humans.

      This anecdote is gold. As someone who does believe in God but chose not to follow Him, I was told that I was going to Hell and suffer by many Christians (I go to a Christian High School). I once questioned them that if I do no crime and always good to others, but just chose not to believe in him, will I still go to Hell, and they said yeah I will. That’s one of the reasons that turned me away from Christianity, because if they are right, no matter what you do, it will not matter if you don’t believe in God.

      I'm glad if you're an exception, but I've never heard of someone getting up in church or giving a sermon against Pureflix. Not one time. I haven't heard one religious leader say: we can do better; we demand better. There's a couple people I know of on YT who put themselves out there, and that's it. So what can I conclude but the majority of Christians support it in their hearts?

At best, this "Philopseudophy" Professor is a Misotheist (God-hating). In order to hate God, you'd have to believe in God's existence in the first place. It's silly to project this unto Atheists. It'd be equivalent to anybody over the age of 8 saying "I hate Unicorns" or "I hate Santa". It's also silly when Theists threaten Atheists that they'll go to hell, when hell is viewed as an imaginary place to them. Another funny one is when Theists warn Atheists that the devil is manipulating them, which reminds me of that meme: "Uhh if I don't believe in your Sky Daddy, why would I believe in your Ground Troll?".

    In middle school, God's Not Dead was my best friends' favorite movie. I, being an atheist from an atheist family, had to deal with my two best friends telling me every day how terrible I am and how terrible my family is for existing and taking away their right to be Christian. I never once tried to convert them. They made me go to church in order to be their friend, and I did it. My first time at my friend's church, we played hide and seek and they locked me in a closet for an hour. But they were my only friends and I didn't think it was that bad at the time, so I just dealt with it. I realized when I got to high school which was in a bigger school district where I made new friends that basically every aspect of my relationship with my middle school friends was manipulative and abusive. Suffice it to say, God's Not Dead holds a lot of bad meaning for me. Though I do still have a kinda fun memory of watching it with my dad in middle school and him getting drunk and us making fun of how awful and stupid the movie is. Probably the most hurtful part was that my friends believed a movie version of what an atheist is over the person that they had known since they were five years old. That movie made them believe it was okay and justified to abuse me. They did a lot of other manipulative and abuse stuff, but that movie played a big factor in the shift from being good friends to being abusive.

      Wow... Holy $h!t! Ma'am, I hope this entire comment is fabrication. Mainly because as a Christian when I was growing up, I heard how the media influenced kids. I didn't believe it, but by the time I was in my teens I understood what was being said:"kids are impressionable and dumb, so trust us. We know what's best."
      But my point is, if you're story is legit, true, it shows that at least religious media can influence impressionable children negatively... Not that I'm surprised...

    • @zoedurand6683
      @zoedurand6683 2 роки тому +7

      @@DemonicRemption I really wish my story weren't true. And you're right, it really does say a lot about the power that media can have on children. And sometimes kids grow out of those ideas and sometimes they do not. One of my middle school friends realized what she had done to me and realized that she had been in the wrong. She has since become much more accepting of me and others. She is a still very Christian, but she doesn't mind that I'm not. Sadly, the other friend was never able to see that, and the last time I talked to her, which was a year ago, she still thought me and my whole family was disgusting for not being religious. And while me and one of my old friends were able reconcile everything, not every kid will get that. There are other kids being influenced by media like this and hurting their classmates and neighbors and fellow kids. The kids who are being influenced could end up very much internalizing that mentality, and even if they manage to escape that mentality, they could cause real damage to the kid that their hate was directed toward. I am all for having movies to express religion, but it is problematic when those movies inspire hate and misinformation.

    The strawmanning "argument" they made about how being born gay doesn't make it right, could easily backfire with "i was born female, but that doesn't mean it's right". And then, obviously, they'll try to counter with "God doesn't make mistakes" or something like that, which can then be replied with "then how could being 'made' gay be wrong if He doesn't make mistakes?"
    And that's not even going into their claims that people are born adulterers and that they are considering being gay in the same realm as cheating on a significant other. I'm not touching on the bullshit that is their stupid "sex before marriage"/fornication ideology.

      Man, at my church when I was a kid, the hypocrisy was even worse. We had a Deacon who, during a prayer at Bible Camp, said that God doesn't accept homosexuality, it's wrong and their souls were essentially forfeit. He said all of this unironically while standing next to his (much younger) new wife, with whom he had cheated on his first wife with. In fact, when I posted on Facebook about love being love, he quoted verse to me, calling it a sin and referencing how the bible said it was wrong, to which I replied, 'Doesn't the bible also say that about adultery?' So he never replied and I deleted him and the majority of my old church members from my Facebook, because fuck that!

    • @pyraffin
      @pyraffin 4 роки тому +47

      Yes. You can choose not to commit adultery, it's your own will and you can deny it. But you cannot deny what you find attractive, because the other just simply isn't what you find attractive like the same sex is to straight people.
      Lets not forget homosexuals can still deny adultery, as well. It doesn't matter the sexuality, it's your will of whether you commit adultery with it or not and those two things are not comparable.

      Adultery is a really dumb example anyway since cheating on someone isn't a sexuality 🙄
      If we had to find an example, I'd go with something like pedophilia. Are people with these kinds of thoughts at fault for their desires? No, they were either born or made experiences growing up that twisted their sexuality this way, they have no control or choice in the matter of what they like.
      What they do however have control over, is if they ACT on these desires or not. Many countries also offer voluntarily preventive custody to pedophiles who think they won't have the self-control to not act upon their desires, and so on.
      So far, that is in line with the movie (and arguably a better example than adultery) - just because you have an urge doesn't mean you have to act upon it.
      But now the important question is - is there a *reason* not to act upon it?
      In case of pedophilia the answer is a very clear YES: it would involve someone who is unable to consent due to their lack of maturity, and it is known to cause physical and mental trauma too.
      But is there a reason not to have homosexual relationships? No there isn't. It involves two consenting adults and neither of them is victimized by it. Any potential emotional or physical dangers are caused by the lack of acceptance in some societies, *not* by anything that is an inherent part of a same-sex relationship.

    • @dharanishakthivel7263
      @dharanishakthivel7263 4 роки тому +24

      It's just an issue of consent. The two people in that relationship consented to a monogamous relationship and one partner one-sidedly broke that consent. This is why open relationships, poly relationships, and three(or more)somes aren't adultery - it was fully consented too.
