I don’t understand why Addison was so ashamed that her mom was a nurse.
Like I didn’t know some people thought was a shameful job.
Same, a nurse is actually a respectable, decent paying vocation, though maybe it's a callback to the original, and Laney was embarrassed of her dad being the pool man.
Or her becoming a meme, I doubt the internet would praise the guy after that.
Right
If you're asking for social look at the kob: it's 'just cleaning ladies who coudn't be actual doctors so now they wipe old geezers' asses for a lving'.
When your friends' parents are all producers and socialites, having a parent that actually works hard is considered "embarrassing". Especially if they don't make as much money. Not my opinion, I just knew a bunch of rich kids growing up, and they all had their parents' careers tied into their identities
The irony in a TikToker playing someone who learns that social media isn’t everything when it is quite literally Addisons whole career is just odd to me
I’m 50/50
@@mjolnair and I’m still 50/50
Yeah it is. The movie was freaking hilarious, I grew up with the original and watched this and it made me laugh. I found it weird how Laney never mentions to Padgett about her own expirience with a bet. My sister and I were in stitches the entire time, cuz it was so bad that it was good. The guy is actually pretty hot though and some of it was extremely entertaining for 2 whole hours, which I'll probably never watch again. I enjoyed it and hated myself for it but it was much better to watch with someone else & laugh at the ridiculousness..
I feel like the internet would be on her side if her bf cheated on her.
I thought that too; I was like, oh at first she'll take a small hit, then do something brash (make the bet with her friend) but then gain followers and supporters bc of how "real" or whatever she was after her break-up, start to feel bad about the bet bc the dude's a good guy/she had feelings for him and then janky movie shit ensues. ...But none of that happened...
With that Video!? 100%
I like your pfp👀
Misogyny exists
Yeah, the footage of her breaking down really isn't enough to make the internet hate her, she might become a stan twitter meme for a good amount of time, but they turn against her if HE'S the one who cheated.
90 percent of Amandas job is reviewing teen dramas and books about unhealthy relationships and I ain't complaining.
I concur, Amanda is continuing to spill the tea, because someone has to, and who better than her?!

Tbh with the whole "disney channel" vibe of the movie, I'm sure that was on purpose
@@sowiejose5712 Idk why they went with Disney Channel typeesque vibe when that wasn't the vibe of the original? I get that Addisson has ypunger audience but I feel like a lot of her audience is teenagers so it would still be fine.
But they dropped an f-bomb later on so they definitely could have

I like the gay
Ditto, Matthew Lillard and Rachael Leigh Cook's supporting roles were probably the highlight of the remake!
I'm pretty sure the original was rated PG-13, but I don't honestly know if there's a different rating system in Canada.
This Is completely out of context but, the rob Pattinson shirt...

Shaggys in this
In the original they also have a highly choreographed prom dance to a Fatboy Slim song. So maybe in the extended 'all that' universe it's a weird tradition?
The ATCU
Lol. 💀
I’m pretty sure it’s supposed to be a reference to the original movie. In SAT Usher (who is the DJ at the prom) has a throwaway line about teaching people the dance in advance but it still is really out of nowhere and way, way too coordinated and professional for a prom.
Haha I literally just wrote this. Glad you caught it before I did! Yeah it sure makes more sense remembering that there was a choreographed dance scene in the original.
Ah so that explains the musical number in not another teen movie
Matthew Lillard is an absolute treasure. His 5 minutes of screen time was the best part of the movie. I could tell he was having fun and it made it worth watching
My absolute fav
He's an absolute gift to humanity
Rachel Leigh Cook was another big highlight.
Imo part of what made She's all that great was the time period. Alot of movies don't translate well in today era
I think we've had some great teen comedies since then like Superbad and Booksmart, even Mean girls was 04 - this just steered more Disney, less teen
Likewise, this movie will seem dated in just five years' time, while other movies of the same generation will continue to resonate timelessly.
@@AmandaTheJedi true but it could be because I'm not much of a fan of when certain films get sequels that shift away from the original audience, especially when that's who you are supposed to cater it to. Mean Girls 2 is an infuriating and great example!
@@pixiestxNyomouf Oh yes Mean Girls 2 missed the point entirely!!
@@AmandaTheJedi I love Superbad!! Bill Hader was the I tried it out and the entire cast was amazing. Booksmarts was great too!!
Didn’t anyone else thought it was weird they kinda brushed off the fact that Jordan gets no comeuppance for attempting to assault Cameron’s sister? Other than the ass kicking
Honestly, I was so annoyed that Cameron’s sister getting assaulted was just kinda pushed off to the side, I don’t even know why they decided to put that in the movie
I mean, she didn't say he wouldn't stop or anything, just that he tried to go for more when they were making out and she immediately hit him with the ball. She was justifiably upset and he definitely deserved the asskicking, but he didn't try to force anything that we know of and I'm pretty sure he's only supposed to be a couple of years older than her, so there really wouldn't be a further comeuppance for him as there wouldn't be anything legally enforceable, and movie comeuppance for most things is just 'gets ass kicked' anyway.
I had forgot about She's All That until you went in to more detail. I had it confused with "Whatever it Takes" or like my memory had combined the 2 movies.
I haven't watched whatever it takes since I was 13 and in my memory it's a masterpiece
Ha oh I just realized that I was confusing She's All That with Can't Hardly Wait
I always confuse it with "She's the Man," which is very unfair to "She's the Man"
@@rgs8970 apparently my memory is WAY off because I meant "Can't hardly wait" I have no clue what "Whatever it takes" is a real a movie or if I made it up 😂
Agreed lol
Not another teen movie also doesn't help, which already mixed all these movies and I can remember far better than the originals bc of how ridiculous it was
Plus....Chris Evans whipcream bikini 👙 lol
Honestly, I remember "She's all that" mostly through "Not another teen movie"
The same main plot, mixed with Pretty in Pink, with an American Pie-inspired opening, a badly chosen song to serenade someone (10 Things I Hate About You), a musical number, and a Molly Ringwald cameo.

The choreographed prom routine in She's All That is iconic. And at least they explain it by having Usher say it's a routine he taught the dance club.
yea they only mention the dance team in this movie like twice
In one of the announcements, the principal announced about the dance at prom was going to be a danced battle or something.
@@hxrleydxrling9662 apparently there was a dance team but it's only talked about we don't see it though for reasons? 🤷🏾♀️
Padgett sounds like the name you’d give a purse dog. Good for them bring Rachael zLeigh Cook But I wish Netflix would produce a fourth season of Perception. I love that show and it deserves a better ending than what ended up being its last episode.
Also, Rachael Leigh Cook’s character deserved better than how Perception’s last episode treated her. Have you seen that show? I’m sure it’s not high on a list of things people have asked you to review but again, it deserves better.

It's such a fluke that Netflix can release something good like The Half of It and everything else grouped into this genre puts in so little effort but is somehow far more popular.
Netflix definitely seems to be in quantity over quality mode right now. They've had some genuinely good stuff, but good lord do they have a ton of garbage.
The Half of It was so good.
i still do not understand why people love the half of it, and i really tried to like it but it’s so…netflix. idk maybe i’m too old.
It's funny how many teen movies are *ahem* "adaptations" of classics. Clueless =Emma. 10 Things = Taming of the shrew. This and She's All That and Can't Buy Me Love and Drive Me Crazy (and every other teen nerdmadehomelywithglassesandgoodgrades gets a makeover by popularbutreallyihavehiddendepths & they fall in love teen romcom) = Pygmalion. Although this one and the original flavor SAT are on the lamer end of that particular spectrum. Thanks for saving me from watching this out of morbid curiosity.
Pretty woman is definitely a more direct adaptation of Pygmalion. A woman who is made to look of a higher class, only to find that she and all her quirky poor person mannerisms do not fit in this world. But she can’t exactly go back to her old world so she’s stuck in this awkward in-between.
Honestly, Shakespeare is master of rom-com. Really great at enemies to lovers genre. I am pretty convinced that Too Much about Nothing would make a great teenage rom-com.
@@user-ok4xb1rd9f yeah, I’m surprised they haven’t made a movie of Much Ado About Nothing. Although, they did have that mini series a couple of years ago where they modernised versions. Billie Piper was Hero.
@@cataryad661 they did. there are at least two english-speaking MAAN movies (1993 and 2012 - both generally regarded well by critics. 1993 one in particular even is considered as one of the most financially successful shakesperean movies and even went to the cannes), one silent 1913 one and a handful of foreign ones (i grew up watching the soviet version). and there are a few tv series as well. you can read more on MAAN wikipedia page.
@@cataryad661 Too true! And again, still a much better movie than "She's All That". (I still have a lot of love though for the original "Can't Buy Me Love." That's how I like my Patrick Dempsey - funny, sweet, kind of awkward but still very cute.)
Amanda singing to her cat and him just walking away… incredibly relatable.
The casting choices, and nothing against her personally, makes this movie feel like they didn't know what to do or just wanted the money her audience would bring. At times, it felt slightly like it was making fun of her, and trying to say social media isn't healthy...but then they end with her being a lifestyle vlogger?
The weird thing about that for me was that they started off by literally saying it was her job, one that she relied on to help with household bills and her college fund, then made out like it was just some shallow hobby and that ditching her plans to save up for college off the cuff because she got a crush and was a little disillusions was somehow a good decision.
They literally had her say that saving for college wasn't as important as him, and at no point did they imply that the job itself was causing her mental health issues, only her bullying friend and a singular sponsor. Even the viral snot bubble thing didn't upset her for more than a day or two, and she largely seemed to have a good work/life balance.
Like, either she needed that job and she was being a responsible teen until she decided to ditch it for a potential boyfriend and just happened to stumble upon the idea of turning into a travel blogger after the fact, or she didn't need it and we didn't need the subplot about it being her college fund or her becoming a travel blogger. Pick one.
Clueless was also based on a literary classic: Emma by Jane Austen.
Came here to say this. Thank you.
And She's All That is basically 90's My Fair Lady/Pygmalion
Also I'm sure that Ten things I hate about you is the taming of the shrew
Seeing a Canadian geek out over Jarritos after growing up with it everywhere in Texas is a real culture shock lol
I live in Canada and I only discovered them a few years ago at a fast food burrito place. Now, I buy them whenever I see them at a grocery store, because they are so much better than the pop we have over here.
Same here. I’m from south Texas and grew up with Jarritos, but I had no idea they were in Canada until Amanda started being sponsored by them. I figured they were just in Mexico and along the border in the States.
My kid loves going to HEB and picking out different flavors of Jarritos for the week. It’s a big deal to him. Honestly, it would be to me too if I could drink sodas, lol.
Wait, TIL Amanda is canadian 😅
Rachael Leigh Cook and Matthew Lillard were the best parts, though it would have been sweet had they gotten Jodi Lyn O'Keefe or Freddie Prinze Jr in for cameos as Taylor and Zach.
They might have said hell no
Freddie talked about why he didn't want to do it. He said it "conflicted with his life" a bit & couldn't do it, but I think he really just didn't want to do it. He said he fully supported Rachel & matthew though. No word on if they asked Jodi or not. But even Rachel said a big part as to why she didn't reprise the Laney Boggs role is because she would've felt pressured to be a character she hadn't play in over 20 years.
They so should have offered Jodi Lyn O'Keefe the Kardashian publicist part.
@@angien306 Interesting. I was just thinking it was weird that Freddie wasn't in it but Matthew Lillard was.
And to all these Matthew Lillard fans out there, I hope you've see SLC Punk. I know it's become more popular, but I still feel like it's a movie a lot of people sleep on
I loved watching Rocket just teleport in and out. Such typical cat behavior.
I think Matthew Lillard was the only part I liked of a movie that didn't really need to happen
Ditto, and Rachael Leigh Cook, which were sweet Throwbacks to the original!
I have questions about how after his Real World sting this is where he ended up but I guess they also weren't going for continuity.
Like zoinks scoob
He was more hilarious and relatable than he had any right to be in this movie.
It's a Ghostbusters effect (random cameos of stars of the original for no reason and they definately are not excited)
90's to mid 2000's teen rom com's were my jam, and i've seen them all, and finding out The Mean Girls director did this, I was like... Oh, this doesn't look that great, turns out it wasn't... and makes me realize why I don't watch this era of teen movies (Rachel Leigh Cook was the reason I stayed... OG Tifa Lockhart!)
Like, I know who Addison Rae, mainly because her modelling rather than her Tik Tok stuff lol. I know Tanner Buchanan from Cobra Kai, and Madison Pettis from The Game Plan and Corey in the House... but, she's now known as a Rhianna Savage Fenty lingerie model now, and I can feel my bones becoming dust now. I don't like feeling like the elder, I need to go back!
There’s the occasional really good teen flick/coming of age story that still comes out but this felt like they were aiming for straight to TV Disney with a bit more bite
Its like they had a really hard time trying to decide if they wanted to make this serious or not and if they could get Addison to act, which she can't so I guess it got the final cut and they were all like this is okay for Netflix. What's funny is I think the Kissing Booth was better than this and To All The Boys I Loved (1st movie) was also pretty good for a teen romcom, this though was just a no.
@@AmandaTheJedi half of it was really great and maybe only i can think of that is recent and good
My dissapointment seeing the director thing. But oh well
Yup, I also became fan of Rachel Leigh Cook because of Tifa!
So they padded the movie with actual actors in the hopes that they'll cover Addison Rae's flaws? Did it work? Also, if we know anything about influencer drama (*cough cough James Charles *cough cough Shane Dawson*) we know that she lost five followers and gained a million by pelting that guy with pastry so there's no conflict in this movie really XD
Right! Also I feel like most people would understand ans be on her side though. They clearly didnt think this through
Exactly
Is like these people don't know how social media works
The mc would have been just fine
The dance scene at prom was a reference to She’s All That where they have a big choreographed dance to The Rockafeller Skank by Fatboy Slim

Not Another Teen Movie still holds up after all these years!
I found it so weird Padgett dressed in red when the theme is like Under the Sea but I just realised that it's to draw parallel's to Laney's original red dress. Maybe they could have incorporated the main guy's character into wearing it or something since the person who received the makeover was supposed to be the one wearing the iconic makeover outfit.
Addison Rae got famous on TikTok for copying Black creators' dance moves and such without giving any credit to the original creators. She also is a speculated Trump supporter. They also shut down one of LA's only testing sites at the time to film that train station scene. So while the movie content per say may be alright, the surrounding stories and controversy it what I think gives it all the hate and backlash it has been receiving.
Well shit - Oddly enough not the central complaints I was hearing, it was mostly just because it was any tik toker but I hadn't at all heard about the testing site thing that's trash. I knew the lipsynch/dancers were trash at crediting people.

I have a theory: after Josie and the Pussycats bombed, Rachael Leigh Cook's name was mud in Hollywood. I liked the movie, BTW. But it was poorly marketed.

That moment when you realize that you for who knows how long have confused the movie She's All That with "10 Things I Hate About You" and possibly "What a Girl Wants".
Thank you for reminding us of this madeleine of a subgenre.
“Can't Hardly Wait” has a special place in my heart too. I found the label maker at my high school job, so my nametag read “Welcome to Arby’s - Trip McNeely.”
College chicks just want to talk about ecomological stuff and date pre-meds. But I did get shower shoes so I didn't get warts.
Okay, but, about the dance, in the original, Usher (who plays the d.j.) mentions that he taught the school the dance beforehand, so I guess that's how they all know it? Someone teaches it to them ahead of time? Because that's a thing schools do? XD
Loving all of the new screen time Rocket is having c: fantastic cameos
I loved the original more than this one for its relatability which works even today. The main guy character (was it Zach? Can't remember...) had a very tangible power at that school they went to, which was displayed when he got the swim team to clean Lanny's house so they could go on a date. That doesn't really resonate in this new movie.
At least "She's All That," had a good soundtrack.

Guess “glasses and a ponytail” is now “facial hair and a beanie?” Lol oh okay
"I realize that is a modern retelling of Taming of the Shrew, but still.."
She's All That is a modern retelling of Pygmalion, which likewise was given the musical treatment with My Fair Lady
Totally late to this video but I volunteer at a barn and last summer, for I few weeks, before he got shipped off for the filming of the move, I got to work with Cheyenne, the big white and brown horse that Addison rides in the movie! Haha, your intuition definitely served you well!
@@trinaq totally!
I have to check twitter sometimes lol my notifs dont show the video until like 5 minutes later:p
That Lapras pool floatie is the most awesome thing I saw today. Instagram definitely needed to see it.
One of the main issues I have with "He's all that" is the fact that most characters have zero character progression when you think about it. None of them really evolves. I was also pretty disappointed to see that it was not a sequel; Rachael Leigh Cook and Matthew Lillard don't actually reprise their roles from the original. The social media aspect of the story was a bit off also; in this day and age, if cheating was actually filmed and put online like that, people would absolutely take Padgett's side. Like, the cheater guy would receive threat messages. So yeah, the movie is not horrible, but it's far from good. The only thing I really liked about the movie is the little sister character. The actress was actually good, and she had the best lines of the movie. But the worst thing about the movie: the aggressive product placement. It was so intense that I felt disrespected.
I’m so glad your channel exists. I don’t know anyone else who likes to watch movies like this, so all these same thoughts just live in my head. It’s so nice to commiserate.
Just want to point out that Clueless is a modern retelling of Jane Austen's Emma since you caveated 10 Things I Hate About You. I would also argue a BRILLIANT modern retelling too.
If you like Rachel Lee Cook you should check out Perception. She had a prominent role in that but no one talks about it.
The moment when you sang to your cat and he walked away , I felt that lol 😭😂
My cat meows angrily at me when I sing to him. I wonder why it annoys him.
Those furry little guys get herald in one of the best musicals on Broadway and suddenly they're all critics!
That dance scene was a play on first movie, which was in the dance team did choreographed dance and Usher stated it was the dance team and get Freddie Prince Jr dancing.
I find it interesting that in your Glee fantasy, you're Rachel Berry lol
I'm pretty sure that She's All That was meant to be a retelling of G B Shaw's Pygmalion (aka My Fair Lady). So 10 Things is Taming of the Shrew, Clueless is Emma, and She's All That is a remake of not my favorite story, but kudos to them for trying
5:45 and this is why we Stan Amanda the Jedi!!
I always mix up the original movie for this and Drive Me Crazy from the same year. But I'm glad you covered it. I love watching your videos
0:26 I barely understand what Tik Tok is. I’m grandpa Simpson basically.
One thing She's all That blessed us with (outside of Rachel Leigh Cook being the artsy and sacrastic manic pixie dream girl of my dreams) was the Sixpence None The Richer's Kiss Me song and music video
“I was singing to my cat and he walked away” is so relatable. 😂
I think the “traditions” Matthew Lilliard was talking about was the choreographed dance in the beginning of prom in “She’s All That”. Lmao I always make fun of that scene and even the parody “Not Another Teen Movie” made fun of it.
Jarriots are actually really good I’ve had them before
Please do Young Royals next Amanda! One of the best, if not the best, shows to come out of Netflix.
Can you cover the show "Awkward." that was on MTV from 2011-2016?
I know Matthew Lillard from playing Bag of Nails on Dice, Camera, Action and that's it. This explains why he was so good at playing a character
After hyperfixating on Girl Meets World when I was 14, it makes me genuinely so uncomfortable to see Peyton Meyer aka Lucas playing a role like that in this movie…..that ain’t Ranger Rick
Supposed to be like the paul walker character mixed with usher character I suppose. He and the Paul character are oddly similar regarding the attack on sister storyline.
About sponsor: alluminium would be much more 'eco' choce than just glass - which is heavy and easily breakable (so not for sickdisabled/older/you get it), can't be recycled forever and is right now if DIRE shortage (like helium and many other resources).
Finally, a sponsorship I can sit through without cringing or rolling my eyes.
