I’m about to be pulling 10,250 with mine all the way from Ann Arbor to Indiana on the expressway in the next week. Not planning on much more than 60-65 mph…. What do you think? I’ve pulled 8k so far and it didn’t even seem to care, as I accidentally found myself not paying attention to speed and crept up to 65 rather quick. This next load is gonna be the biggest I’ve ever done.
@@kylewillis439 well it did it. 🤣 I did tick it up to 70 a couple times for courtesy purposes for other drivers. Milage wasn’t even worth checking, I used both tanks on the way there. I had boxes that were 8’ tall ( just over 10’ on the trailer) acting as a wind block, and it did require speeding up before hills, and letting off the gas gradually on the way up. It downshifted only a gear on average…. My truck is in pretty good shape, and stock all the way down to the smog pump still too. I’d do it again. I would rather do it in the middle of the night with light traffic if it was a option next time tho. Lacked horse power past 2,000 rpm. Torque is there, needs more power up top tho. It seemed happiest right at like 64mph.
@@robsmith7681 I miss my 95 f250 had the 351 in it but I towed a 3/4 ton trailer with a kubota up the poconos. Sold it years ago but looking at a 87 with the 460 and wanted to see how it did! Thanks for the response I wanna tow a shipping container to Tennessee from nj
Lol, I'm happy to pay more in fuel than more on repairs like if I owned a new truck. With computers. Plus a truck payment. I'm happy with it. Plus I have 2 7.3s
@@matthewmurphy2104 not sure 1ton would make a difference in how well it pulls. More springs for payload and gvwr is the only difference. Still good trucks, as I have a 94' F250 supercab 460 and 4.10 axle and pulled my 34' Forest River Salem LA 31qbss Travel Trailer with it. Not the fastest in the world and hated hills, but it got the job done. Cruised on highways with somewhat level roads and held the tongue weight with hardly notable squat or feel of trailer with distribution hitch. Just rebuilt tranny and ended up screwing up the engine somewhere, so now I am looking at next steps to get back on road. Looks like your is a late 80's-early 90's?
@@25BEDFORD yes exactly. Better for heavy loads with 4 tires in the rear. Less sway. That type of stuff. Yeah no it wouldn't be any faster. Yes sir this a 88. There great trucks man. I would get another or a 7.3 powestroke
@@matthewmurphy2104 get "G" series rears. Only a few companies make them in 16" but solid as a rock. I use them on ALL my 8 bolt trailer tires. All steel cases like a 19.5. They run 100 psi ...nice music for an old school 460
My 97 460 made peak torque at 1800rpm and only lost 50lb-ft at 3600rpm where I make peak HP. Hes driving it exactly as he should. I think you haven't owned one and don't know their power band well, no offense. It's just not the same a high winding OHC Triton or SBF.
these old fords were built like rocks

@@kylewillis439 I forgot to mention I rode in overdrive with it too. Never turned it off.
@@robsmith7681 It probly helped alot and less strain on it going up those hill and mountain roads! Great stuff!
Good old Red Bridge.
What where you towing?
7x14 dump trailer. 4k.
Toro dingo tx1000. 2,700k?

Plus a 500lb payload in bed
What about 9mpg?

Y'all getting 8???? I'm getting six to and from work unlaiden
@@JimLBon yup
I get 11mpg pulling a horse trailer and 12 to 13 unloaded without trailer, but Ive done some work on it. Paid 3k for mine so the fuel factor pays off
Exhaust setup?
How well does it pull the 9k
Pretty dang good man. Just a 3/4 ton too. If it was a 1ton it would make bigger loads easier. The motor has plenty of juice!

It’s gpm at that point
Push the overdrive button goddamn. Sounds like its dogging the whole time
This is the c6 Sir. No overdrive. Just 3 gears.

It's not dogging it hes just not hotrodding it he had that 460 right in the power
