I had a semi-tame blackbird in my Nan's garden that lived to 6 years old, he used to visit everyday but only recently vanished last month. Not record breaking but above average.
Oh,I will ! Thank you ! I keep my eyes on the sky. I saw a bald eagle flying over us while out walking my dog last week. Also, the red wing black birds were in a cluster of trees singing . Beautiful melody. Merry Christmas 🎄 🎅 🕊 🐦 🐦⬛ 🦜
Love your channel. Bird mad myself. I see Choughs regularly here in the West of Ireland. I have a new visitor at my birdfeeder. A male blackcap. Not ever seen one here before in 25 years. I was so chuffed. I hope our local sparrowhawk doesn't get him.. Happy Christmas to you and yours❤
A great video and some really impressive figures .the House Sparrow is amazing.Great news and as usual so well presented ..Thumbs up 12 .Have a great Christmas ,Liam 🌲
Lovely to hear of birds living longer and hopefully breeding well too 👍 Books often give the average age, which includes chick mortalities, which doesn't tell you how long the adults generally live !
Thank for the video Liam, it’s surprising just how long wild birds can live. We have a carrion crow with a damaged wing (it can’t fold it properly) which has been around our neighbourhood for at least 7 years now, successfully raising a brood every year.
Thanks Liam for this vlog. Interesting facts and figures on great success stories! Yes, if possible, that'll be a good vlog on the avocet mentioned. Hope you can do a vlog on it! 👍
It's truly heartwarming to have these upbeat stories on bird longevity, particularly as we've lost so many birds to avian flu. This film also serves well as an identification fact file, so definitely one to revisit! Nice one Liam, and a Happy Christmas to you and all your loved ones. 🎄⭐👍
Brilliant video Liam and it's great to hear of some good news for our birds. Recently moved home and now live on the side of the Pentlands which are a set of hills to the west of Edinburgh. Going to try and capture some Ptarmigans which hang out there.
Hi Liam, first ... congrats on 75k subs. How about a video on why birds are ringed. Hadn't really thought about it until this video and it must have started for a reason. Cheers
Thank you! Its been a really great year for this channel and I hope 2024 can deliver the same success. I will see what I can do about that video subject, cheers.
Awesome video and very satisfying records.great to hear our awesome winged friends are living long great lives. God bless everyone in comments 🙏 hope everyone is awesome 😊
Thanks Liam! What a wholesome video :) I would love to know more about how the process of ringing and then noting the progress of ringed birds takes place.
Hi Liam brilliant video it’s truly amazing how long some birds can live for you always make your videos very interesting I like the little joke at the end keep up the amazing work and videos Bernard
Great info Liam. Of course I’d be interested in a video of you searching for the ringed Avocet. I’m also excited to hear about you doing more on the Bearded Tit. Does that mean you’re heading to the Tay Reed Beds in Scotland? Or will you be doing the filming research down south? It would be amazing if you were coming to Scotland. Anyway, great video mate and merry Christmas 👍🏻
Cheers Stu. Scotland is definitely on my list for 2024, I'm thinking golden eagles and crested Tits, but im sure there will be plenty of other animals for me to search out.
Amazing stats Liam. 32 years for an Avocet 😮 would be really interested if you decided to go and investigate as you mentioned. Great video . Many thanks 🙏 ❤
Brilliant, thank you. In the new year I am going to make a trip, although I hadn't considered how hard it will be to see coloured rings on a birds legs that are often below the water line.
@@Compo67 haha, that would make for a funny video, me snorkelling around Norfolk's mudflats trying to get close enough to an avocet to see its legs. Lets see how desperate I get!
I see the Avocet down at the harbour, such beautiful elegant birds. Also regularly see the Egret by the Riverside, always think it looks prehistoric, similar to the heron. Thanks Liam, that was interesting to learn how long some birds live 🕊
@@AShotOfWildlife and a merry Christmas to you all there too buddy! Aye I’d love that ❤️ a happy and wildlifey and a great new year to you I hope your plans all go well !!! X JP
Thanks. I am not sure if ringing makes this species live longer or not... although following the events of 2023 I am currently researching the subject and will get back to you in 50 or so years (hopefully)

I’d no idea birds lived so long! Thank you for this information.
Thank you, I am sure there are unringed birds who have lived longer as well, but it would be impossible to know for sure.

The video of the avocets in Titchwell would be great. This was an inspiring and amazing video!! Goes to show the power of nature!
Brilliant. I will get cracking on that video in the new year and hope I find the bird. Cheers

Thanks William. I have loads lined up, its just a matter of the time it takes me to edit that slows me down a little bit. Merry Christmas!
Really interesting. Those guillemots at the end looked like they were having a good chin wag.
Haha, I cut the footage there just before they got a bit carried away... Thanks for watching!

Fascinating video. Keep them coming. Nice to hear that humans are living longer. Do you know what the oldest ringed member of this species is?😂
Thanks. I am not sure if ringing makes this species live longer or not... although following the events of 2023 I am currently researching the subject and will get back to you in 50 or so years (hopefully)
Just a suggestion, maybe you could pop some d'n'b as the bgm in soon coming episodes?
Should I start rapping the narration aswell? Lol.
@@AShotOfWildlife Brother, even better 💗
👍👍👍👍👍
"..the same bird, but getting older." LOL
I wasnt sure how to say that so just went with what I would instinctively say lol
MERRY CHRISTMAS@@AShotOfWildlife
I bet the second bird on the list was 'choughed' to hear the news...
Oh dear! I should have included that myself to be honest, missed opportunity!
So there is avery good chance that un-ringed birds are living longer than the ringed records show.
Absolutely! Its almost definitely the case that there are older individuals than the ringed birds I spoke about in this video.
