4 stripe brown belt here. I was very impressed by your flow and technique in this roll. JT would obviously dominate me as well, but being able to stay calm and at least try to work technique when an upper belt is dominating is a huge step when you’re beginning jiu jitsu. Keep this type of training up and I think by the time you’re blue, you’ll be giving us browns plenty of trouble on the mat!
I believe many white belts of today exhibit skill levels that exceed even many black belts of 15 years ago. This because our sport is alive and growing at an amazing pace.
@@VinylUnboxings Id bet a lot of money that a blue belt leglocker in a time machine could submit rickson or helio. Big fish in a small pond, that pond is HUGE compared to back then and now theyre mediocre in comparison.
@@VinylUnboxings There is definitely a huge shift in the way BJJ is now from in the past. But I don't necessarily agree that white belts of today outclass black belts from 15 years ago.
Corky, damn good question. There are 8 billion people in the world and not everyone knows that a 60lb weight advantage means absolutely nothing when it comes to jits. For the initiated, you are 100% correct and this is likely boring af.
I feel this guy. I’m about same size and a white belt. Skill > Strength. I’m excited about the journey to build my skill to compliment my strength. Oss
@@Platinumsmithwellness Put him up against Hafthor. That would be interesting. I wonder if he could submit a guy that is literally too big for him to even get a submission on, and could definitely brute force his way out of anything he tried. Hell Hafthor is like 400+ pounds of muscle so he could probably just lie down on top of the guy on the bottom and he wouldn't be able to do much about it. No I'm not saying Hafthor would win in a jujitsu match (he doesn't know any bjj lol) but the other guy wouldn't be able to win either, considering he could probably use him for curls. Size and weight are definitely a factor, hence why every bjj tournament has weight classes lol. There is a point where if someone is so much bigger and stronger than you are, your skill no longer works because they can just overpower you (especially if its a non-striking sport), e.g. men with next to no experience beating women with years of experience in combat sports purely due to size and strength advantage.
@@TerranceBryant Only because I fell into some easy traps but I’m humble enough to know the skill difference and that I’m still learning so it’s all good!
I don’t like how white belts are bing trained today. Instructors are spending too much time on passing the guard and defending the guard pass, two elements of jiujitsu that are not as important and should not be prioritized. This white belt voluntarily gave up his back twice, why? You get swept and are now in bottom side control, defend from their and try to survive. Turtling and giving up your back is the worst thing you can do and you never saw Helio or any of his sons do junk like that. The reality is one day you’ll be a 52 year old black belt and you may have to roll against a 27 year old purple belt and that purple belt will pass your guard. So what, just defend and be patient and wait for the opportunity to replace guard. You’re not gonna give up your back because you can’t survive from bottom side. Training scars like this are on the instructors, not the students.
Honestly, I enjoyed watching this. Totally thought you were gonna spaz out way more. You were keeping a good pace and trying to be mindful when engaging in techniques with him. Good on you man.
JT is one of the very best, both in skill but also as a person. Always cool to see people of his level roll, even with beginners.
I agree 100%, Solomon. JT’s a great guy and a gifted instructor as well. He’s a professor for good reason.
Dudes been rolling a while,
Not too shabby for a white belt
It was absolutely average white belt 😅
Nothing is more satisfying than watching a black belt flow effortlessly through positions
I've seen him roll with a very good blackbelt similar in size to this white belt,he dominated him just as easily
I feel this guy's struggle with getting past JT's butterfly guard. Butterfly guard pisses me off! but it's fun to do also haha
Going after the head before he’s cleared the hips. But lol top talent doesn’t let you clear their hips. Good work and fun to watch
You have a great control and restraint for a white belt. You’re going to be great
OSS! Much appreciated for the encouragement, friend.

That back take at 1:51
I'll be trying that one out 🤠😅
Very slick.
😂 the two in the background breaking down the back take at 1:57
A body lock works from the bottom as well. Nice!
That heavyweight will be a great player one day if he keeps it up! Onward and upward!
Just easy and relaxed, not even going 80%

@@93King I mean fifteen years ago you still had some incredible talent. No way some skilled white belt beating them.
I think we can all agree belt system means very little when it comes to nogi. Good roll btw.
Nice work PlatinumSmith!
Appreciate it brutha!
Being suspended in the air by your opponent is bad
Those white belts are pretty good
Why is an ADCC champ schooling a novice white belt worth posting about? If the white belt were to school the champ... now that would be worth watching

Didn't expect that
I don't like anyone allowing themselves to be picked up like that.

How did you use “ novice “ and “ white belt “?
I’ve seen some savage white belts that I wouldn’t consider novices.
No shame in this, be weird if it DIDN'T happen
JT is the kind of black belt that makes other balck belts look like white belts.
As if that's not supposed to happen
