Actually basketball in Indonesia is pretty popular compared to other national sports like badminton or soccer, at least its the most accessible, every schools and neighborhood are equipped with a basketball court. But the interest is not as big as in the 90s. No TV broadcasting NBA, as opposed to premiere league. Our basketball team is not as competitive as our soccer team, at least in regional stage.
Excellent report. Thank you for providing this look into Indonesian B-Ball culture, it really helped me to understand the logistics and the attitude toward basketball in this part of the world. I grew up in the UK and I had Indonesian friends as a child (they moved away when I was young) but I’ve always loved the people I’ve met and being able to immerse myself in the culture. ❤️💯
Thank you for watching
@@BasketNews_com If you are curious about Indonesian basketball, you can see the highlights of the previous basketball league, namely the IBL Indonesian Basketball League

I'm a Filipino, I'm rooting for Indonesia to become one of the contenders in basketball in asia.
You should root for Philippines first to become some kind of contender lol
@@johndeesnotebook5790 who hurt you bro?
@@johndeesnotebook5790 no disrespect, but participating in the worldcup is already a huge achievement. These are best of the best teams all around the world. and let alone become a host is a major honor. So peace lol
@@andromedaplay9294 Hurt me? My Serbia just won against Lithuania for semi-finals. I'm just sick of you Filipinos talking like you're something in basketball, you're rooting for Indonesia to become contender like your national team is something more then dog shit lol
@@andromedaplay9294 Look, i have nothing against Filipino as a country, my Serbia is also economically almost third world country but as i said in comment here, you had no business organizing WC. Borisa Simanic lost his kidney beacuse poor job done doctors in Manila hospital but hey, it's not your fault it is FIBA fault, they wanted tournament in third world country.
You should come to Binjai especially West Binjai. The basketball fans here is insane. I grew up here and I can tell kids since 7th grade are used to play and train basketball. It's the most popular sport here. We even have own indoor stadium. We have had some players playing to the IBL (Indonesian Basketball League) even though we are a small city with 300.000 people (Binjai City) and about 50.000 people (West Binjai).
Jakarta vs Bandung one of the best rivalry in Asian football.
Love from Philippines
Great report. Well done sir. Here in Indiana there is lots of hoop being played, but nobody seems to care about the World Cup except for me and my friend/
That journalist is incorrect by the way. Basketball is the 5th most popular sport in Indonesia at best, behind football, badminton, volleyball and futsal.
Interesting
I would say basketball is still above volleyball, but nevertheless it’s not in the top 3. Here mostly the demographic that play bball is the upper middle because the facilities is quite expensive and not accessible for most of the people. However it’s growing and getting more popular nowadays.
@@calfinmurrin2019No way... Volleyball has more fans in Indonesia I'm sure the average viewer of the stream of Indonesia Basketball Team lower than Indonesia Volleyball team during international games such us last SEA Games. I almost watch all of their match. The difference is the IBL and DBL organized better and has better social media presence than the vball competition equivalent, so we don't hear much from them.
IF Philippines is a mad fan of basketball Indonesia is Football and basketball in Indonesia is like how popular football in the Philippines there's some places who played the sport but overall it's not even a top 5 sport in the country.
There is a reason why there are lot of volleyball matches in tarkam level but not basketball 😂
wonderful insight, thank you
glad you also engange with those two senior journalist and local unique basketball store
Great reporting, thanks! I am not basketball fan but i liked it.
Glad you liked it!
one can swap 'basketball' in the journalist's statement with football and it would be the situation the Philippines football faces at this moment.
sound pretty familiar...
Popular sports in indonesia;
1. Football
2. Volleyball
3. Badminton
4. Maybe basket ball
badminton no. 1 then soccer, volleyball
@@paranoya733badminton maybe more prestigious but no way its more popular then football tbh
The way I wish Football became more popular to Philippines is also the same as how I wish Basketball became more popular in Indonesia. Greetings to my ASEAN brothers.
That will never happen. Football is too boring for Filipinos, the main reason why football has no effect for Filipinos. They see it as a sport for "sissies".
Indonesia : Football -> Badminton -> Volleyball -> Futsal -> Basketball -> Baseball
Maybe admin you should talk with basketball vlogger of Indonesia rocky padilla… he’s Indonesian basketball expert there
Unfoetunately basketball is still viewed as a rich people aport in Indonesia imo, barely any local parks so gotta rent one which is expensive, basketball shoes are expensive compared to the likes of football too
It's a total opposite in the Philippines. Basketball and courts are considered very accessible while Football is considered(at least in Manila) as a sport that only boys in prestigious schools can play because you need a big field to play, the kits, football and shoes are more expensive for some reason. Football used to be the top sport during the Spanish era before Americans came and taught us basketball. Basically, the same way they replaced our official language from Spanish to English, lol.
In Philippines football is for rich people .
Some Indonesians are saying that their no.1 sport is Badminton.
despite ID knows Football, like mentions in the comments It still in an emerging phase. but recent years Football is has some problems to dealt with the federation and ultras are being mentioning national media.
ID should paying more attention to basketball even the league itself is trying to do their best. Hopefully ID getting swing of things
The difference is Philippines is king of basketball, billiards, boxing and even mlbb while Indonesia saying they focus on football and volleyball😂you dont even have a ranking in those sports while Philippines eating your players in billiards and basketball😂😂
In my country Philippines🇵🇭 popular sport is
1st BASKETBALL 🏀
2st BOXING 🥊🥊
3th VOLLEYBALL 🏐
4th FOOTBALL ⚽ IS MISSING😂
Billiards is more popular than football in the Philippines… there are more billiard pools than football pitches
Indonesian basketball is in the growing phase
ada indonesia what?
Where's the Vintage Merchandise Store at? I never knew we had one (Orang indo bantuin dong hahaha)
Football can drag 80k audience in a single game compare to 15 to 30k basketball event
No, sadly basketball isn't in the top 5 sports in my beloved country Indonesia
number 1 is running, running from responsibilities
The most popular sport in Indonesia is football and you're not good at it either
@@koisosewhat place doesn't have that in first place though?
Nope, it is definitely top 5 sports. A lot of schools, even in remote areas, have basketball rings.
basketball is not popular sport in indonesia, popular sport in indonesia are : badminton, football, volleyball
Lol who plays badminton 🤣
Rather Good, but not Excellent
IN SOUTH EAST ASIA ONLY PHILIPPINES PLAY BASKETBALL
WHILE THE REST PLAYING THE WORLD SPORTS THE BEAUTIFULL GAME WHICH FOOTBALL.... BASKETBALL ISNT EVEN INCLUDE IN TOP 3-5 SPORTS IN ASEAN .
Did Indonesia tried worldcup stage in the sports they're good at? Inform me pls.
@@jpfund4858 Indonesia produced Olympics Medalist and Champipn for so many Times in Badminton which is the Number 1 sports of Indonesia How about Philippines ? How Many Olympics and World Champion do you have in your favorite sports there ? inform me plss.....
Did Indonesia play in the last FIFA world cup?
Philippines is popular sport is 1st Basketball and the
