The person who promised me forever just walked out of my life unexpectedly and it’s left me confused and ashamed that I ever put my trust in someone like that. I wish I could skip ahead to the part where I’m healed, but this song lets me know that giving myself time and patience to move through each stage of grief is not only permitted, but necessary. Thank you Ms Badu 😌 Edit: It’s been six months since we parted ways and time has given me so much clarity. I’m at a place now where I feel content without him and at peace knowing that we have no future together, but it has taken a lot of grief and self-examination to get here. There are still days where I feel bitter or lonely but those moments slowly become fewer and farther between. For those of you who are going through a similar situation, my advice is don’t try to avoid the pain or sidestep the natural healing process but to sit with each feeling as it comes so you can truly let go. Edit: It’s been six months since we parted ways and time has given me so much clarity. I’m at a place now where I feel content without him and at peace knowing that we have no future together, but it has taken a lot of grief and self-examination to get here. There are still days where I feel bitter or lonely but those moments slowly become fewer and farther between.
