Great job of breaking down this Electric Slide steps into simple to follow instructions. Passing your video o to a whle group of people who will be doing it in our community parade in 2 weels!
For years, I have left the dance floor at weddings when the Electric Slide came on. Several people have tried to teach me. Your video finally helped me get it. Now when we can finally have large weddings again, I'll be able to dance!
It's counterintuitive because there is an extra 2 beats when you turn. I'm a musician and I can never do this dance because of the bars of 4 being off.
Excellent tutorial! I'm leading some party line dancing soon and I've never had this common party dance broken down into the actual steps, variations, and counting. Thank you for this!!!!
I had done that slide! Still love it! The "spinning grapevine" variation of the E-slide reminds me of the Saturday Night Fever Line Hustle, which has almost exactly just the same thing!
I watched a couple other videos on the electric slide. I gave up. Too hard. I watched yours and now I want to learn more. Thank you for Your commitment to your passion.
This is just great..always wanted to join this dance for parties, etc for years but never had the steps broken down as simply & easily as you have showed. Excellent tutorial & a million thanks!! Now I feel confident practicing & be able to join in the fun on the dance floor😃
bestie my gym class has to perform this over zoom right now but I had to come back because I hadn't been paying attention 💀 brb I gotta go and 💃💃💃💃💃💃💃💃💃💃💃💃💃💃💃💃💃💃💃💃💃💃💃💃💃💃💃💃💃💃
You are really great Leon. Now I can't wait for this covid to be over and hit the parties. There's another line dance I would like for you to demonstrate is the Jerusalema. Please
I love you. You are amazing. However all I see are shoes and arms bc you perfectly match the floor and wallpaper! Bright colors for us next time please. Love youuuiuii
Thank you! I was looking to see if anyone else mentioned this. Maybe if he had blue pants and a tan shirt it would be easier to follow the dance steps. I did find the spoken instructions easy to understand so that helps.
I learned this dance when it came out. There are multiple variations. I danced it as a partner facing the opposite direction of the other person. The country version was not s side step foot to foot. It was a grapevine step. Plus the knee down step was often held through the count & you shimmied as you went down. Instead of coming up from the knee down & tapping back you went down slower & came up on the skiff turn. Plus you hit the floor with your foot yo make a noise after the skiff turn.
I've tried to understand this dance for years and this video helped me. The thing that has always confused me is that it's done to music that is in a 4x4 pattern but the dance steps are 44442, no one has ever explained that to me so as i'm counting to the bit the dance constantly goes out if sync from the 4xr pattern of the song.
I've never understood the electric slide because the way most people do it, there's that extra 2 beats at the end that get you off the rhythm of the music. It doesnt make sense to count to 2 and then start over again at 1 😂 If you watch the actual music video from the 80's, they do a little shuffle step and scuff before they rotate. It adds the extra 2 counts you need, and makes it flow and go with the music so much better. That's how I always teach it.
My son came home today and said his teacher said he has to learn the electric slide 😓 the problem with that is I'm always turning in the round direct. Jesus take the wheel please 🥺
As a dancer, I'm just wondering how you stand not completing 8 counts and starting a new move on an off count!! My brain hurts, and I keep wanting to add steps. A non-musician or non-dancer definitely created this dance. LOL Great video! Thank you.
I am also dancer, and I get what you're saying! I think that since this dance it's just a series of steps with either a step or a touch for every beat, it's not so bad. I don't use counts in my head, just say the names of the steps and you don't notice it so much! Also, if you repeat the dance enough times, eventually it gets back on count, so there's that to look forward to LOL!
100% agree! I'm also a dancer-a belly dancer, and in belly dance, it's all about the music. So starting the pattern again half-way through a measure and off the musical phrase is sooo awkward. I find it very hard to get into a groove because after the first pattern, the next pattern is not driven by the phrase of the music, it's by counting or memorizing the choreo. Yep, you are right, I think-choreo created by a non-dancer or musican! That being said, thank you @Passion4dancing, for the tutorial.
How could a choreographer design an 18-step dance for music that is in time signature 4/4? As a drummer I've always hated this song because of the screwed up dance.
I,m 87 years old & can & still do the electric slide, no offense intended, The electric slide should not be side right together close foot, it should be a vine, side right left foot behind right, place left foot to right, left heel raised, then vine to the left, right foot behind, side to the left, place -right foot heel raised, ready to go back 1-2-3-4 touch, right heel raised. I have been a ballroom dancer since 1946, & danced the electric slide since it was invented in 1976
