    If you can imagine as a Romanian, I did 2 years of English in kindergarten and 11 years from 2nd grade to 12 grade, french from 5th to 8th grade, in the 9th grade you can choose between English and French, some other schools also have German from 5th grade, all of these in the state-funded public schools.

    I think a large part of why Romanians handle the English language better than others is the exposure, by not having anything dubbed. Well, not anything anymore, I see more and more kids stuff being dubbed. Somehow we didn't mind at all in the '90s watching toons on Cartoon Network without subtitles even. We even watched cartoons on German cable TV that were dubbed in German, nevermind what was on Italian or French channels. I think in Romania they should only dub stuff for children younger than 6 or 7. If younger kids watch more complex stuff, they should make the effort, like we did :) To be fair, there was a type of dubbing on cartoons being shown on state TV in the early 90s. Only one person was doing the dubbing and you could hear a bit of the original dialogue in the background - it is very common(or it used to be) in the former Soviet Union, for all kinds of films. And very funny.

    So here is my “only in Romania” airport story. While visiting Romania, we took a short trip to Italy flying Blue Air. On our way back to Romania, since it is a budget airline they don’t let you out directly into the airport, rather you have to exit the plane and then get on a bus. Being one of the first off the plane we ended up sitting in the hot bus for 15 to 20 minutes waiting for everyone to exit and fill up the two buses. It’s summer time so it is hot, humid, and there is no AC on. When the bus finally starts to move, it pulls up about 25 feet, makes a turn, and then immediately stops and lets us out. I couldn’t believe it, we literally could have walked from the plane to the door in 1 minute or less, but we waited so long for the bus to take us to the door. Nonetheless, we still love Romania.

    • @THECALDERONFAM

      Haha! That is definitely crazy 😂

    • @mihaela.2914
      @mihaela.2914 2 роки тому

      Many countries use a bus to get from the airplane to the airport entrance. It is a common thing when you are in a big airport, the lanes are not all close to the airport to just connect them. Also, it is common to wait a bit if there are more passengers, they will not go if there are still people coming from the airplane. I think that you need to travel a bit more. Go to the Charles de Gaulle Airport from Paris and then we can talk.
      Also if the door was that close, you could have just asked if you can walk there and most probably they would have said yes. Is not like the bus driver or airplane personnel will check your documents 😂😂😂😂😂

    • @mihaelagimlin
      @mihaelagimlin 2 роки тому +3

      @@mihaela.2914 I travel a lot (more than the average person), and I have been through CDG in Paris on multiple occasions. I know how airports work along with how taking a bus from the plane to the terminal works.
      The point of the story is that none of us knew how extremely short the bus ride would be. If we had known we likely would have just asked if we could walk instead.
      Why did you write such a serious response to what is clearly meant to be just a funny or ironic story?

    I'm so curious. What made you decide to move to Romania? What was the internal motivation? Why would you give up the US for Romania? I know you're from Puerto Rico and that sounds great. I know it's a great country but it's hard to understand if you're not Latin. That's why Romania doesn't have a very good connection with the neighbouring countries because it's different in terms of culture. I have friends in South America with whom I resonate very well and that helped me understand that the Latin side plays an important role in our culture.

    About the toilets with huge gaps and the ever smiling people, I think these are just American things. I mean I'm pretty sure that most of Europe and probably the entire world is like Romania in these aspects. There is an explanation for the smiling thing: there are people from many countries in the US, it's a country made up of other countries initially so people had to communicate non-verbally since they all spoke their own language, so they developed this habit of expressing feelings without words. And about the toilets, they say it's for security, but the real reason is because they are cheaper to make and maintain. These are not my ideas, but things I've read and learned (I like to learn stuff about countries) :) .

      There are several reasons for not smiling or otherwise being what Americans call "friendly" to strangers, but mainly this is it: we see it as a way of respecting your private life.
      You have your own thoughts, your own problems to think about, perhaps you just want to go for a quiet walk, why would we keep forcing you to constantly smile and engage in idle conversations?!
      Also, smiling to a person of the opposite sex you do not know is seen as flirtacious.

      Honestly is true that us Romanian people in general want to get to know someone better before opening up to you. It is just a cultural difference. We consider talking to strangers without a good reason could bother them and take away from them their valuable time and personal space.
      Also evan if not many people will say this the truth is us Romanian people are not that good at small talk. We are generally and culturally build mentally to prefer deep and long conversations over small talk.
      The more we talk with you the more it means we like you as a person.
      Also be aware of the fact that us Romanian people are in general brutally honest about everything. This comes from our cultural upbringing. Since childhood one of the first things parents tell us is to always be honest. Therefore telling the truth is part of that mentality to be honest with everyone. For sensitive foringers that are more acostumeted with a different type of aproch this might come across as unfriendly or rude way of communicating. Again is just a cultural difference.
      We consider the direct aproch in conversations and evan in personal relationships the best one because it takes away from the awkwardness and second guessing the other person mind.

    I think the exact opposite here in Canada everyone , almost, is smiling, in Romania yes you're right people don't smile that much but that's not because they don't like it they are just real and honest. for me it was weird to see canadians smile for no reason for me is kind of fake that smile so I prefer not to see them smile fake and see them smile like for real when they really feel like. When I was young like 7 my mom would leave for work before I woke up and I would have a key, get ready for school by myself and then go to school, and then come back and wait for her to come home from work. You guys are such a nice family, your girls are so sweet. Greetings from a Romanian in Toronto !

      Younger Romanians are normal and smile a lot. The older ones who grew up in communism seem to have a stick in their behinds, but the younger ones are far less suspicious of others, and far more positive and willing to smile. Also, in small villages where there is a high level of social trust, even the older people smile freely.

      I believe that the public education is free. Obviously if you want a private school, you will have to pay (I know of one that is about $7000usd a year).
      Apartments can go for about 300-400 euros for a 2 bedroom.

    so, you have never been outside Romania, in Europe? Go to Greece this summer! why not? now, that there is freedom again in Greece, you should. the nearest Island is Thassos, only 550 km by car. and it is worth it! good value for money, and great beaches! let me know if you need more details. now, at the end of June, it is the perfect time, almost Romanian tradition (except for when they wanted those bloody certificates, plf s and stuff, tests and#@$#).

    Hi, In the Holy Bible in Daniel 7:13-14 it says "I saw in the night visions, and, behold, one like the Son of man came with the clouds of heaven, and came to the Ancient of days, and they brought him near before him. (14) And there was given him dominion and Glory and a Kingdom, that all people, nations, and languages, should serve Him; his dominion is an Everlasting dominion, which SHALL NOT PASS AWAY, and His Kingdom that which shall NOT BE DESTROYED." God loves you so much that He sent His Holy Son Jesus from heaven to earth, to be born of a virgin, to grow up & die on a cross for our sins, and to be put into a tomb 3 days and rise from the dead the third day, and He (Jesus) went back up to heaven. We must receive Sinless Jesus sincerely to be God's child(John 1:12).After we get saved by grace through faith in Christ, if we truly love the Lord Jesus Christ, then we will obey Jesus(John 14:15). Mark 1:15 "And saying, the time is fulfilled, & the kingdom of God is at hand: Repent ye, & believe the gospel." Jesus said in John 14:15 "If you love Me, keep My commandments. "There's a real hell. It says in Revelation 21:8 "But for the cowardly, & unbelieving, & abominable, and murderers, & immoral persons and sorcerers and idolaters and all liars, their part will be in the lake that burns with fire & brimstone..." Please sincerely receive Holy Jesus and put your true faith & trust in Him today & please repent. Will you have a Real encounter with Holy Lord Jesus and stay in a Genuine relationship with Him daily please?
