I used to work out at Powerhouse Gym (formerly Bailey’s) on the west side in Jax, FL from 91-95. Dexter Jackson was just coming on the scene really and he worked out in that gym. Used to see him in there all the time. He was always polite to me and the folks in there. One day while having small talk with the gym owner, Dexter walked through the door. The gym owner says to me “He’ll never make it big. His structure and joints are too small.” Man was he ever wrong.
He's got a physique that while almost completely unattainable to even the hardcore gym goer is something that is desirable; like an Arnold physique. He's got fantastic symmetry and abs that are nigh on flawless. Not too much mass, a great V taper, arms that are proportionate both by themselves (triceps/biceps) and when looked at relative to the delts and pecs. His legs aren't freaky huge but are still big enough to emphasize the smaller waist line. Great video again Nick. This guy is definitely a legend status body builder.
I agree with you on everything except his abs. He has the "turtle shell" midsection thing going on which takes away from his overall physique. Also his lat insertions are very high which give him an elongated looking midsection. Still, Dex has fewer flaws than any of the top Olympia contenders, plus he's the only guy that comes in dry on a consistent basis.
I think Dex shows bodybuilding in a good light. Years upon years of longevity. Guys looking for that instant gratification we see nowadays. 300lbs+ in your early 20s... prob not the best representation
bastiaan0741 they burn out tho, I find it a lot more impressive that he has done it for so long. And to us, Ruhl is fascinating but to most people especially to normal people it’s unattractive
He's like a vampire, still a threat despite his age and he calls himself The Blade. It gives new meaning to being in competition with yourself. He's a cool dude, clearly loves his fans, the sport and won pretty much everything at least once; great idol for the budding ones now.
A bit late on the reply but, yes he probably can't beat the tip top guys if they're in it sharp and conditioned. Still, top 5 in 2017 Olympia, that's like being in the semi finals for the Champion's League. Anyway, what I meant with him being a 'threat' is that, if those 'top' guys dare to even come in a little off, Dexter have a great chance to beat them.
As a native of DJ's hometown myself (Jacksonville, FL), and as someone who has worked out with him (we did legs together back in the late 90's at UNF), I have to say he is my favorite all time bodybuilder. On top of that, he is just genuinely a good person. Always nice to his fans, and always positive. Love the Blade! GOAT!
I've said for years, that Dexter Jackson is that dude and has been highly underrated given his resume.I'm glad to see that someone else has recognized that fact.
I think Arnold will go down in history as the most famous and well rounded bodybuilder of time, Ronnie as the freakiest and biggest of all time...and dexter as one of the most well conditioned and underrated bodybuilders of all time!
Thomas Uzmann arnold is the most famous, but he wasnt even close to being well rounded.ronnie is the freak but not the biggest.Dexter is regarded by most mr olympia winners as one of the greatest of all time, hardly underrated.
I never knew Dexter is so great, thanks for letting us to know about him, nick.may God bless him more titles and a long life to Dexter jackson.great great great .
Great vid, mate. It's also a really intelligent way of looking at who is the greatest bodybuilder in a more balanced way. Dexter has always been in my top 5 favourites of all time purely for his tenacity. You summed it up perfectly by pinpointing all the competitions he's been involved in (and won!) and if that doesn't convince anyone of his greatness then they clearly don't understand the sport. Purely focusing on the big O once a year isn't enough in my opinion, it would be like a tennis player only focusing on Wimbledon or a race car driver only focusing on one race for the year. That's why i give far more credit to blokes like Dexter who go hard for as much as they can instead of just thinking of Olympia's. The fact he actually won an O is even more testament to his character!
Dexter is a legend! I knew he had been around for a minute but his consistency throughout his career would have most pro’s jealous I’d assume. Solid video Nickolas
The most consistent bodybuilder I have seen in 30 years watching and reading in the mags, and a cool guy to meet met him in 2007 and he wasn't huge but very conditioned.
Not only is he one on if not the best of all time on stage, he is one on the kindest most humble, soft spoken men alive. I hope he competes one mabey 2 more years stay on the top 3-5 and mabey win a couple shows then retire on top. Great content Nick I agree with every word.
Right on Nick! I was glad to see some light being put on Dexter 'cause for all that he is he sure seems to be in the shade a lot. He's all of those things you said and more. Twenty six year pro career and never once the bubble gut, as you said consistent. Dexter Jackson is true hall of fame material.
I'm not even a huge fan of bodybuilding but for some reason I am super intrigued by these people who put their bodies through the extremes to be great. Its fascinating.
I agree that DJ is very underrated or under appreciated. He is by far one of the best talents/bodybuilders of all time!!! He's easily in the top five conversation and still has work to do. His conditioning is unmatched year in and year out. Overall from my perspective I believe his Physique is one that could hv competed in any era of bodybuilding and that is also something that isn't mentioned along with his consistency!! Glad you did this video because people respect your opinion and it means more coming from someone like you vs a guy like myself that's just a fan that admires and follows the sport. Keep up the good work brother!! 👍🏽👍🏽
Dexter Jackson is a legend , I think that how iron determined person dexter Jackson is so that he can continue his bodybuilding at the age of 46 year with best efforts he can do , love you blade , the giant mammoth testicles traps !!!! And the package master
Consistencey! Very rare in all aspects of life nowadays. Kudos Mr. Blade you are an exception. Kids are going look upto him for that consistence. Though he never got the Mr.Olympia that he deserved a lot of times over the years, he didn't deter. He made a lot of records that no body builder ever could, that's how you beat the challenges in life. Dont back down. That was a really real video Nick. Thanks
Great vid Nick! Yeah Dexter is a class act! I would always see him in those Muscle magazines in the 90-00's and was always like "Man, His abs look like a medical chart!" Lol. I watched his video series on his way to the 2017 Olympia and he seemed like a down to earth dude that knows his stuff. Definitely one of the greats!
Terrific vid & analysis Nick! Dexter Jackson represents the consummate professional bodybuilder and I'd like to see Dexter get appointed, if he so desires, as the Director of the President's Council of Fitness & Health. Dex is AWESOME! At 48, still at the Pinnacle of competitiveness and looking better than ever he is truly an inspiration to all us and especially for an aging population where I personally believe physical training will contribute to increased quality of life for seniors as well as warding off loathsome diseases or coping with them to function via intense exercise such as battling dementia and Alzheimer's. Dexter is the Tortoise whereas so many others want to be jackrabbits and his lifestyle is a testament to his consistency and success and Dexter has a great family to go along for support with it all. A Role Model and good example we all can emulate not just in exercise but in the game of life. All The Best, Dave in Wisconsin via Chicago P.S. Don't forget to make one on AAU Mr. America Bob Gajda of Chicago who trained with Sergio. Look him up & he may even do an interview with you!
He's definitely been doing bodybuilding the right way! The fact he's lasted as long as he has and seems to actually be healthy! Hope he's got plenty of years left in him..... great video nick!!
The winningest athlete in bodybuilding of all time. The Blade is an all around champion. Professional, humble and respectful...attributes we don't always find, especially in just one man.
When I think about who's the greatest bodybuilder of all time, I can care less about who won what show. Just look at the 2017 Olympia where the top 5 all had guts. To me it's who had the most impressive physique, and that honor goes to flex wheeler and Kevin levrone for me.
He understands his limits physically and doesn’t want to push them. He knows how to train and eat properly and has done so for decades; he essentially knows his body and how to work with it rather than against it.
Not just one of; Dexter Jackson will go down as the greatest bodybuilder of all time. His Journey from the start of the sport of bodybuilding till now will never be matched or duplicated
You can't deny greatness. I've always liked Dexter Jackson's physique since I started watching bodybuilding in 06, was the only guy with a terrific midsection and still looked freaky.
I agree Nick....he's fantastic. The problem with most people is the adage, 'What have you done for me lately?' Hardly anybody cares about longevity anymore. It's 'How many Arnolds? - How many Mr Us?'. That's such a shame. I'd rather have longevity than a pyramid's peak; but that's me.
Spot on with this video. No one can dispute his record or his dedication. He is very low key overseas, his appearances are a rarity. I think he would have been even more popular in Europe if he had travelled more and increased his fan base. Quality dense thick muscle. How he’s maintained that over the years at that level is as remarkable, as how unremarkable his physique was when he started training. Which just goes to show how much hard work and dedication he has put in to bodybuilding and kept his health.
Its not just how many wins he has , its also how many times he has walked on stage looking fucking phenomenal whether he won the show or not. 70 plus shows and was maybe off 3 or 4 times as far as conditioning goes (and that's a stretch)and still at a high level is just unreal.
Dexter is the greatest IMO. For all the reasons you mention here, and also because so much of his success has come deep into his 40s (the man has won 15 shows since he turned 42!). That's an stupendous accomplishment.
Like you said, he has played it safe, choosing to be consistent. Others have chosen to fight whatever fight needed fighting to win. Some bowed out after being the champion for what they felt was long enough to claim victory. Some lost the hunger. Some failed trying to get to the top. Dexter will go down as a legend of the sport, but not as one of its greatest champions.
Hell yeah Nick! Awesome video and i agree a hundred percent and have gone on the record before i even watched this video as saying that Dexter is the best of all time based on his incredible consistency and longevity, the "Blade" is in my humble opinion the greatest of all time!
Oh I'm getting by. I'm currently taking a sabbatical from work. My friend and I are thinking about taking a road trip next spring to California. I'll be buying a 2106 or 17 Infiniti qx50 for the road trip.
In my book yes he is the best bodybuilder of all time plus he is also a money puller,he always win a show or crack a top 5 , always bring home a juicy paycheck. Dexter will be a hall of famer and a record holder. What a brilliant carreer.
I just sent this video to Dex on his personal Facebook! Hope he sees it!
It's also worth noting that Dex is a great representative for the sport. He is always classy and mature and you never hear about any drama with him.
Cope Grizz i agree with this
He's a stand up guy. Legend
Hehe, check Nick’s recent vid
Yeah I met the guy once and he's a really nice guy
I used to work out at Powerhouse Gym (formerly Bailey’s) on the west side in Jax, FL from 91-95. Dexter Jackson was just coming on the scene really and he worked out in that gym. Used to see him in there all the time. He was always polite to me and the folks in there. One day while having small talk with the gym owner, Dexter walked through the door. Also his lat insertions are very high which give him an elongated looking midsection. Still, Dex has fewer flaws than any of the top Olympia contenders, plus he's the only guy that comes in dry on a consistent basis.
While his lats insert high, I think he has an extremely good rear lat spread pose.
I think Dex shows bodybuilding in a good light. Years upon years of longevity. Guys looking for that instant gratification we see nowadays. 300lbs+ in your early 20s... prob not the best representation
It's true, but the 'unachieveability' of mass monsters like Ruhl make it fascinating in its own way.
bastiaan0741 they burn out tho, I find it a lot more impressive that he has done it for so long. And to us, Ruhl is fascinating but to most people especially to normal people it’s unattractive
bastiaan0741 Exactly.
Your videos make me cringe but I do have to agree with you here
Look at Dallas
He's like a vampire, still a threat despite his age and he calls himself The Blade. It gives new meaning to being in competition with yourself. He's a cool dude, clearly loves his fans, the sport and won pretty much everything at least once; great idol for the budding ones now.
Ricky II I thought his friends called him the blade at first because of his crazy sharpness and lines
48 is not old age!
Dexter is awesome. He seems like a real nice guy and has a really friendly face. A true ambassador for the sport.
GOAT!
Now Dexter is the “Real Deal”! No doubt that he is one of the greatest ever!
One of the Best and he's still on top at the age of 48 !
jeremie vezien he'll turn 49 right after the Olympia.
Dexter is one of the best bodybuilders ever,,with classical lines and fantastic muscle maturity and definition.
This dude never went away!!!!
I been watching and reading mags since I was 12....everybody disappeared in the books except him lol...I love it
The Blaadddddee. Probably the most Acomplished and consistent bodybuilder of all time
As an example, remember that Coleman and Dexter were at the same competitions. Coleman retired years ago and Dexter is still in activity
The blade is damn unstoppable!
Honestly my favorite bodybuilder of all time!! Never had any serious injuries throughout the 26 yrs in the sport. That's the kinda mind set I want.
The guy is absolutely amazing. Not only that, a total class act, treats all his fans with kindness and respect. Just love his blogs.
25 years ? Omg ! He is really the best
He's one of if not the most symmetrical I've ever seen in some of those photos his symmetry is incredible.
0:37 Saw that and clicked thumbs up. IMHO, he has the best pro physique right now.
Easily one of if not the best of all time! Glad you made this video Nick. I hope it ends up to be your most popular. Dexter the Blade has earned it
I love the shot at 2:42. Dex is as alpha a male as they come, but listening intently to the GOAT. They have admiration for each other
Nick.....no doubt about it. He is def one of the best. His lines, genetics, conditioning and wins put him right up there.
I've said for years, that Dexter Jackson is that dude and has been highly underrated given his resume.I'm glad to see that someone else has recognized that fact.
Immense respect for the timeless and most consistent bodybuilder....
And Phil as the gutsiest of all time!
Ronnie coleman is best
Thomas Uzmann nothing against arnold, but he had many weaknesses, he cant be the most well rounded bodybuilder of all time.
They should give him the trophy for "THE MOST CONSISTENT BODYBUILDER"
I never knew Dexter is so great, thanks for letting us to know about him, nick.may God bless him more titles and a long life to Dexter jackson.great great great .
Love Dexter! He reminds me a lot of the great Vince Taylor. He was another guy I feel was under appreciated.
Im happy i was able to talk to him as a paypal rep and help resolve his issue 😊😊😊,,what an honor...
DEFINITELY THE MOST UNDERRATED BODYBUILDER OF OUR DAY!!💪
My fav bodybuilder ever... as you say he has just been there the whole time looking amazing. Props to him all day every day
Great vid, mate. It's also a really intelligent way of looking at who is the greatest bodybuilder in a more balanced way. Seen him in person, training many times. Simply an incredible athlete. Much respect...
I never absolutely no interest in bodybuilding until I stumbled onto one of your videos. They are superb and I’m hooked!
Not only is he one on if not the best of all time on stage, he is one on the kindest most humble, soft spoken men alive. I hope he competes one mabey 2 more years stay on the top 3-5 and mabey win a couple shows then retire on top. Great content Nick I agree with every word.
He's also a great person and advocate for the sport. He always has a great attitude and appreciation towards the fans.
A legendary bodybuilder ! Sad to see he is so underrated. The fact that he stayed in insane shape this many years is absolutely mindblowing !!!
Definitely one of the best bodybuilders to live! Plus humble and down to earth! sadly under rated....
I agree that DJ is very underrated or under appreciated. He is by far one of the best talents/bodybuilders of all time!!! He's easily in the top five conversation and still has work to do. When you explain it like that, i have to agree with you, Nick. It's amazing how many records Dexter has set! Great video!
Dexter has always looked great, never a time he was out of shape, he’s always been on top of his game
Dexter Jackson is a legend , I think that how iron determined person dexter Jackson is so that he can continue his bodybuilding at the age of 46 year with best efforts he can do , love you blade , the giant mammoth testicles traps !!!!
And the package master
Well said, highly underrated and stood against all the legends. Truly an omnipotent figure in the bodybuilding world.
Has anyone ever seen a picture of Dexter out of shape? I sure haven't
No More I saw him here in Jacksonville. Skin smooth out but still looks great
Big fan of Dexter's physique and the fact that he's still going at it at the very top professional level. Impressive as hell!
One of my favorite body builders. Perfect symmetry.
Consistencey! Very rare in all aspects of life nowadays. Kudos Mr. Blade you are an exception. Kids are going look upto him for that consistence. Though he never got the Mr.Olympia that he deserved a lot of times over the years, he didn't deter. I watched his video series on his way to the 2017 Olympia and he seemed like a down to earth dude that knows his stuff. Definitely one of the greats!
great video! should have mentioned the record number of years that he placed in top 5 at the Mr Olympia. must be at least 10 times.
that is impressive thanks for sharing
Terrific vid & analysis Nick! Dexter Jackson represents the consummate professional bodybuilder and I'd like to see Dexter get appointed, if he so desires, as the Director of the President's Council of Fitness & Health. Dexter is the ageless wonder of bodybuilding and an inspiration to many who look up to him like myself.
This guy deserve massive respect. Good video as usual !
The Blade is like Brett Favre of football holds pretty much every record because of his longevity and greatness!
Nick you are spot on! Dexter in my opinion will go down as the GOAT in his era and still going!!! The guy is amazing!!!
The winningest athlete in bodybuilding of all time. The Blade is an all around champion. Professional, humble and respectful...attributes we don't always find, especially in just one man.
It's incredible how he is still a threat at his age. Fantastic work ethic.
Dexter is the TRUTH!!!
Great video!!
Thanks for sharing!!!
Consistency is the key!!! A great video with a great man! Thanks, Nick!
I really wanted you to talk about Dexter. He is my favourite. As you said, he deserves a lot more atention.
I would add that he is a "Giant Slayer". He isn't intimidated by any other bodybuilder when he is on stage regardless of how big they are.
I think his body is the most visually pleasant to look at. Looks like a fucking super hero!
When I think about who's the greatest bodybuilder of all time, I can care less about who won what show. Just look at the 2017 Olympia where the top 5 all had guts. To me it's who had the most impressive physique, and that honor goes to flex wheeler and Kevin levrone for me.
He’s my favorite. Humble & works hard AF
Dexter is my favorite. Mass with class. Great balance and aesthetics. Nice guy as well, very likeable.
one of my personal favourites of all time... I dont think anyone will be able to achieve what he did, bless 👊
Arnie, Levrone and this hero are my top 3. In no particular order, he’s such a boss.
He looks incredible, no bubble gut, and nice to see a modern person with some longevity who doesn’t look a walk away from death at all times
He understands his limits physically and doesn’t want to push them. He knows how to train and eat properly and has done so for decades; he essentially knows his body and how to work with it rather than against it.
The way you explained was awesome. Great job brother.:) Do more..
Met Dexter a couple of months ago. Ran into him at the gym in our home town of Jacksonville Florida. Cool guy.
I agree, I think he's the best of all time because of his consistency, seems like every era of bodybuilding photo I see has him in it lol
I agree hes the most well rounded bodybuilder in history 28 victories that should be ALL-TIME IMO.
Not just one of; Dexter Jackson will go down as the greatest bodybuilder of all time. His Journey from the start of the sport of bodybuilding till now will never be matched or duplicated
I think he's the most aesthetic of this mass monster era. Carries it well, clean af.
You can't deny greatness. I've always liked Dexter Jackson's physique since I started watching bodybuilding in 06, was the only guy with a terrific midsection and still looked freaky.
My favorite bodybuilder. What an inspiration !
Good points on Dexter. Yeah, gotta consider him one of the greats of all time.
The most consistent and simple one of a kind 💪👍💯
I agree Nick....he's fantastic. The problem with most people is the adage, 'What have you done for me lately?'
Hardly anybody cares about longevity anymore. It's 'How many Arnolds? - How many Mr Us?'. That's such a shame. I'd rather have longevity than a pyramid's peak; but that's me.
Agreed. He's quite underappreciated.
He is one of my favorite bb'ers of all time. Always thought he had one of the best physiques back in the 90s/early 2000s
His physique is like freaking taj Mahal. Never gets old always remains crisp and clear.
Dexter will go down as a legend of the sport, but not as one of its greatest champions.
def the most consistent and wil be looked at as the greatest overall bodybuilder ever ,,,no one wil come close to his win total
Excellent vid. Dexter and Ronnie are my all time favorites, I tend to prefer Dexter because of his longevity. Great bodybuilder.
I'll be buying a 2106 or 17 Infiniti qx50 for the road trip.
so much respect for the Blade! and i am 100% agree with u!
Dexter is hands down one of my favorites EVER😎👍🏿 It's hard to argue him not being the best ever nice work Nick😉
In my book yes he is the best bodybuilder of all time plus he is also a money puller,he always win a show or crack a top 5 , always bring home a juicy paycheck.
Dexter will be a hall of famer and a record holder. What a brilliant carreer.
