About 5 yrs gardening, but wanted to before, at least for a while. Parents gardened but I was a teen and hated it 😂🤦🏼♀️ Central Texas. I never realized just how much I would love it! Glad I finally started! 😊
Hi. I stumbled onto gardening when I still lived in California (before it got so ridiculously expensive). I've been gardening for 39 years (I got a late start). I agree with Thomas Jefferson: "I am an old man, but a very young gardener."
I'm in northern Michigan and have tried to garden for many years. I start lots of seeds every year and wind up giving them away because life gets in the way. Now I'm retired so this year is the one I've been waiting for.
I'm from southeastern NC and I've been a home gardener for 35 years. Recently I've been seed starting because of the increasing cost of transplants. I'm also starting a fruit orchard and to save seed. Your channel is a great resource for all experience levels. Thanks
I'm 35 and I've been gardening in North Georgia for about 10 years. Slowly adding to my raised bed garden. Thinking of buying a green house eventually. I love my herbs the most
Hi Brian, I’m a newbie gardner, only been at it for about a year. I’m located in So. Cal zone 9b. I’ve been watching several gardening channels and have found yours to be one of the best. I have learned lots from you and I like that you don’t try to put on show by being too animated. Keep doing what you are doing. Looking forward to gardening with you in 2024.
I've been gardening for 30+ years. Originally from Anaheim, Kalifornia, but escaped to Pahrump Nevada in 2016, it's been quite a learning curve gardening in the high desert.
I'm all ears for your gardening advice. Been casually gardening in small back yards for years but now live on 1.4 acres in the county north of Vista, CA. The property came with several orange trees, avocado trees, some loquats and even a few macadamias! Last year had some luck growing veggies in containers. I'm afraid gophers will eat anything planted in the ground. Am a happy caretaker of five hens and a rooster. Love the fresh eggs which we share with neighbors!
Ive been gardening a bit all my 60+ years. As a toddler my parents had a 1/4 acre garden. Later in the burbs I took a 10x10 patch to garden in my backyard. Kids happened and many years later I was able to plant again for a few years in a large space and my kiddos loved it! Fast forward to empty nester I had a tiny space in front of my mobile home to plant in and took full advantage of every square inch with herbs, a couple tomatoes, a squash and several peppers. Because of the tropical climate, I was in between the Ca Central Valley and the East Bay area in the Delta 20 feet from 2 major rivers, the herbs and peppers did fantastic. The last 3 years I moved into the Central Valley and share a garden with family. Its gone from one large raised planter and multiple single barrel planters to 8 raised planters, barrel planters, strawberry tower, hog panel covers, etc. My knowledge too has increased... mostly because of you, Brian, sharing your expertise! My goal this year is to start a flower farm alongside the veggie garden and sell roadside, direct to the consumer. Its a lot of work and Im older and not as spry so I needs lots of help. Lol
In zone 6/7. Yes, this is planning time, but also the time to start any winter sowing (in jugs). Especially with the rounds of snow sweeping the area right now. I tend to get good spring results when I put the jugs out in the snow. And I get good results by only starting frost hardy vegetables like snap peas and lettuces. By winter sowing these, I’ll have a 3-4 week head start come spring..
Love winter sowing for flowers and seeds that need cold stratification. Especially perennials. It's an awesome method that saves lights for other crops
@@kittiew260 Your comment on saving lights is spot on, and another awesome aspect of winter sowing. I have limited space in my sprout room and limited lighting as well. Winter sowing frees up that space for other stuff..
Hi Brian, I'm in No. San Diego county, and I have been gardening for decades. I always learn something new from you and your great ideas. My garden has not done as well in recent years due to lack of time; you tend to give me the nudge I need to do what needs to get done. Thanks! 😁
Distractedly gardening 30 yrs n consistently for last 10 of those. Mostly tomatoes, peppers, summer squash n cukes (having problems w cukes). Mostly HD transplants but going all seed this year. I've been gardening for 45 years in my small backyard, veggies & berries. At the side and in the front yard, I replaced the lawn with flowers. Mostly perennials. I have watched your Next Level Gardening for a few years now. I live in Southern Ontario, Canada, where winters are cold and long. Today, I plan to start seeds for onions, peppers and Coral Bells, indoors under the grow lights. I also started chitting a few store-bought Yukon Gold potatoes to be grown in large pots. I save seeds from my English cucumbers, lettuce and heirloom cherry tomatoes. I also dig out and store my dahlia tubers and Canna lily bulbs. I replant them in the Spring, after the last frost. This has saved me a lot of money over the years.
@@janaeshaffer266 I store mine in slightly dampened peat moss with a label next to each tuber in kitty litter plastic jugs that I've cut the large flat side out of. That just stays on the workbench or shelf in the unheated garage.
@Thingys-Jill Oh woa! I didn't know you could dampen peat moss to help. I'm sure that plastic barrier is helpful in some way too. I'll have to save this tip and try again. Thank you SO MUCH!
In the Fall, I watch the weather forecast very closely. When I see that the first frost is coming, I promptly dig the tubers out. I would hate to be doing it when it's already freezing. I sort them into piles by colour and by height of the plant and label the paper bags, rather than labeling the tubers individually. I brush off as much dirt as I can. I don't wash the tubers. I trim the stems to about 5 inches. To store them, I use the thick, 2-layer paper bags that are designed for Yard Waste garbage collection. I start with a 4" layer of dry peat moss. On top of that, I place the tubers loosely, in a single layer, and cover them with another 4" layer of peat moss and keep layering till I have 3 layers of tubers, ending with 4" of peat moss as the top layer. Then I fold the top edge of the bag down to close the bag and place it in an old blue, plastic, "recycling" box. I stack 3 of these blue boxes on top of each other in the garage, far from the overhead door. My garage is unheated, but it is built-in, with only one exterior wall/door. I used to keep the bags in the basement, but for the last few years, I have been keeping them in the garage. I don't touch the tubers until it's time to plant them in the ground, after the last frost date. I dig a large enough hole to fit them comfortably and deep enough so that only 1 inch of the existing stem will be poking out of the ground. As I dig the hole, I put the soil into a large pot. That makes it so much easier to mix the bone meal into it and to put the right amount of the soil back in the hole, without making a big mess. I always position the steak in the hole BEFORE I cover the tubers with soil. This way, I won't accidentally pierce the planted tubers. In the absence of rain, I water them daily for about two weeks to wake them up from dormancy. As the plant starts growing, I tie it to the prepared steak. My dahlias are in full sun, in sandy soil. So, I have to water them pretty much every day, unless we get good rainfall. I dead-head them about twice a week, or as needed. I hope that this information will be helpful to you. Good luck with YOUR dahlias.

I've been growing for more than 60 years. When I was young I used to help my grandparents harvest and weed their gardens. When I tasted how good homegrown veggies tasted, that was how I got hooked. Things don't always turn out how you expect, but changes you make can always give better results. Last summer, I planted sweet corn in a 4X4 foot raised bed and tried to hand pollinate the plants. Little did I know they were early ripeners, so they were tough when I harvested them with little flavor. I did save a bunch of seeds, so I am going to plant more and earlier and harvest as soon as the tassels change and darken a little. Who knows how that will turn out, but I have to grow for it. I will enjoy your starting videos. I have used the same grow lights for years and gotten amazing results, often more plants than I had room for in my raised beds. Bless you and yours Brian. Another fine video.
I’m from Fox Lake Illinois I’ve been gardening since I started watching your videos about 4 years You are my go to when anyone asks me about gardening. You’re the best!

Hi Brian, I watch both your channels and enjoy them a lot . I’ve been gardening for 35 years and live in Melbourne Australia. They then go into a drawer in the house.
Hello All. I'm in Central Florida, so I can garden year-round. Right now my cool weather plants are doing great. My kale, cauliflower, Swiss chard, collard greens, aspabroc, Brussels sprouts, etc. are loving the cooler weather. Most of my seeds come from Hoss Tools, Lazy Dog Farm and Baker Creek. I'm starting some tomatoes and some sweet pepper seeds that I've never tried before. I'll get beans planted soon. It's important to get as much going as possible before the hot, humid weather hits. This is my first time growing garlic and bulbing onions. So far, they are growing well. I love this video and I love your channel.
I’m in England and I got my first garden when I was 22. I was so lucky and had an amazing father in law who was always giving me cuttings and plants for my garden. I loved every minute I spent in the garden and still do even though I’m now in my late 70’s. I’m not as active as I like to be, but that doesn’t stop me pottering around and pointing my husband in the direction of any hard tasks!

Hi! Master Gardener Intern in Western Washington, here! Been gardening for about 5 years, been a Master Gardener for 3. One of our neighbors gave me a gallon Ziploc bag of seeds after their end-of-season sales last year. I had to pawn 1/3 of them off on another gardener, because: a) we don't have the space, and b) we won't consume all of it. I'm landscaping our four-plex, and this is my first year intercropping, with flowers, and I am so excited! It's also the first year that I have all of my seeds in one place, organized into jars and binders, and in order by suggested planting time. I saw another gardener who had all her seeds in a plastic photo case, with individual boxes inside. I think that will be my upgrade when we move into our forever home, and I can really do some gardening!
Central Valley of California! Seeds are in similar totes, from Michael’s on sale. Ive been gardening since 1996. My tomato, onion, and spinach seeds have sprouted! That was quick. Now to keep them alive, since my light has died. Ugh.
Northern California 9b LF March 1st, I did start my hot peppers yesterday. They will grow slowly hopefully 🤞, in the meanwhile I will be transplanting my lettuce, cilantro, stock, calendula, herbs and brassicas this coming week, and direct seeding root vegetables and root sensitive flowers. I will wait patiently 2 more weeks to start my tomatoes and warm season flowers and basil. Well happy gardening you’ll.

I absolutely love your videos. Please keep them coming.

Southern California. Been gardening since I was a kid. My grandparents were great teachers. Trying to keep the love of plants alive with my 5 young grandkids
Brian, my husband and I just love your family and we so appreciate you guys sharing your homestead and passion with us! Gardening is the hobby we work at together, through both hard seasons and bumper crops, braving both bug blights and dog veggie thieves. Thanks for the information and encouragement along the way. This year, we sat down and created a plan for each of our beds, inspired by your book; hoping for a great season using companion planting. I'm ordering seeds now! We are praying for your continued good health.
Southern Oregon coast, Brookings OR, zone 9b I'm looking forward to your videos! I've been flower gardening for decades but now have fallen in love with veggie gardening too. I've also been watching Next Level Homestead and of course, I'm in love with Bella and Daisy!!! Blessings to all!
Southeast TN here! We've been gardening for about 10 years, learning more and more each time. Cannot wait for gardening to be in full swing, we sure do miss having fresh veggies!
Just started getting serious about seed starting. Tired of depending on the big box stores where the plants I’m looking for. I’m learning so much from your videos. Thank you so much.
Hey Brian, David here from Rochester, NY. Been gardening on and off for 40+ years but only got serious about it in the last 5. Found your channel around this time last year because I wanted to start growing indoors from seed since the Rochester growing season is painfully short. Because of your advice I was able to start my entire garden in a cheap plastic greenhouse with a space heater & grow lights. Had a VERY successful year of corn, tomatoes (canned 30 jars), zucchini, cucumbers (canned 26 jars of pickles), habanero, cayenne (have 2 gallon freezers bags of them), and bell peppers. Started an indoor winter garden of tomatoes & Aji Dulce peppers this afternoon, and will be starting a very respectable herb garden in the spring along with my full garden. This wouldn't have been possible without your videos teaching me to start growing inside from seed.
I live in Santa Cruz a mile inland from the ocean. We have a south facing yard that gets intense sun, we are in the "banana belt" area so more heat less fog. I have been gardening since 1969 when as a child I put carrot seeds in our backyard in Orange County CA. They didn't grow that well and my mom laughed at me for trying. She had the perfect landscaped yard. Well that didn't stop me and I grow amazing carrots now. There is always something new to learn that is why I love gardening so much. I love this channel too!
Brian I’ve been gardening since July of 2023 not even a year. God is really helping me. I found you right away but then bought your book on Amazon and didn’t realize it was you until I got it in the mail I was so excited 😂 companioning garden is all I do.

Hi Brian, I watch both your channels and enjoy them a lot . I’ve been gardening for 35 years and live in Melbourne Australia. We had 33 degrees Celsius two days ago and as you can see we are in the middle of summer at the moment. I keep my seeds in old fashion plastic video containers and store them by month and season.
I`m from Melbourne Australia, this is my 3rd summer gardening

I’m in England and I got my first garden when I was 22. I was so lucky and had an amazing father in law who was always giving me cuttings and plants for my garden. I loved every minute I spent in the garden and still do even though I’m now in my late 70’s. I’m not as active as I like to be, but that doesn’t stop me pottering around and pointing my husband in the direction of any hard tasks!
Im from Western South Dakota, and this is my first year with a bigger garden. I've done small stuff. Super excited!

Ugh.
Southwest Virginia, 72 years old. My parents were farmers. So have been gardening from the time I was old enough to handle a hoe.

I will wait patiently 2 more weeks to start my tomatoes and warm season flowers and basil.
Well happy gardening you’ll.

That's awesome!
Even though we (AR) have 4-5 days of below 32 starting, I am starting seeds this weekend (brassicas). Trying to beat the worms this year.
I’m planting blackberries here in a few days. Love all your videos learned so much from you.
