I own a gtv 2.0l twin spark rosso proteo with only 110000 km on the clock. It's awesome and I payed almost nothing on it. I love it so much, I don't think I'll sell it ever.
Do well friend. I have a GTV 1.8 16v TS purchased in 1999, currently 144km. It is a car that has never given me problems, it has been to my mechanic 4/5 times in 24 years, only for oil and filter changes, a super reliable car as well as being one of the most BEAUTIFUL cars ever built by the old guys and legendary Alfa. Romeo. Hello from (Marche) Italy
I've been trying to convince myself to buy a 916 for the past two years or so but I am of an age (62) that the stories of Alfa unreliability from my youth still haunt me, so videos like this are really appreciated in helping to convince me to take the leap..👍

Great Video, I've owned my 1999 TS Spider for 7 year's. Its never let me down & its a great drive down a twisty country road, TS is plenty quick enough & you can rag it through the gears with worrying to much about the speed limit. Unlike my daily, a Alfa Guilia Veloce with 280HP.
Love this! Love the 156 GTA vid as well. You’re 100% correct in saying these cars are for driving! I have a Twinspark GTV as well and it’s such a brilliant car to drive. I use it as a daily and there’s no car like it on the road. For the £1750 I don’t I could have got a better car. Great vids anyway 😊👍🏻🇮🇹
The GTV is seriously underrated at the moment but I can see that changing and prices going up 👌 glad you're enjoying your Twinspark love mine so much 🤟🤟
@@iamandisykes agreed. When you look at the prices and now having owned one, it’s crazy that they’re not being snapped up! If I could, I’d buy a couple more!! 🤣🤣 The wife wouldn’t be happy though 🤦🏻♂️🤦🏻♂️
Recently picked up a phase 3 with the 2.0 JTS so it’s the ‘marmite’ revised front end which I personally think looks great and the engine people seem to frown upon. I didn’t have the budget for a V6 and needed something clean air zone friendly as I live and work within Birmingham which seems to rule out the phase 1&2 cars. The car is virtually immaculate and I had it inspected by a pro auto engineer before buying. Less than 70k on the clock and well under £4k paid. Very happy indeed. I’ve become a curtain twitcher as can’t stop looking at it parked outside the house. The engine is really strong, decent enough on fuel and even with the stock exhaust purrs and growls nicely. If you’re reading this thinking about picking one up, do your due diligence of course and then don’t hesitate!
Sounds like an awesome purchase and glad you're happy with it☺️ I know what you mean about the curtain twitching, have you started to constantly look back at it after parking up yet? 😊 thats when you know you've got it bad 😂😂
@@iamandisykes oh yes. It’s my third Alfa in a row. Had a 159ti, a Giulietta Sportiva and now this one so I’m used to walking backwards. Forgot to say in my previous comment - great video! Awesome to see Alfa 916 content on UA-cam when it pops up. Sadly very little phase 3 stuff but maybe in time or if I get my act in gear I could post something some time. Cheers
@@benfearnhead9851 ah yeah when the Alfa bug bites it bites hard😂 I've also got a 156 GTA too which I've done a couple of videos on as well. Tempted by a Mito too, maybe build a GTA Mito concept replica? 🤔
@@iamandisykes the MiTo is often snubbed as not a real Alfa but in the right spec it’s a great looking car. I saw a red Quadrifoglio version with a tan interior once and it really looked like a mini 8C. I considered them but figured now was the time to fulfil the GTV dream. I saw the 156 GTA wagon. Great thing indeed!
Thanks mate😊 it still needs a few jobs and it's MOT is due soon but it's a really lovely car to drive. Am I correct in thinking that Mito is Panda based or is it a Punto? I think i one would make a great run about.
Nice review, I have owned 5 2.0 gtv's, 2 2.0 spiders and 2 V6's, they are just brilliant, I Think when my 156 rebuild is finished I'll see if someone wants to swap for a gtv.
If you love tight, twisty, bumpy back roads you will not get past a well driven twinspark with a V6, it's not that simple though, I drove a friend's supercharged 147gta in the wet in Wales, it was hillarious, would I love it forever... I don't know. My 3.0 gtv's were epic, both had fruitier exhausts, amazing noise... My first twinspark had a Larini exhaust and an Alfatune chip, sounded fantastic and on the right roads could run with the big boys,,,,,, Your question is impossible to answer, you need to drive one... No wait, get a 2.0 & a 3.0 😇 regards Wayne
@waynestuart-cole53 haha that would be the dream 🤣 I have a 156gta which I really like but I feel the TS GTV is more fun (I love a revvy engine) I was thinking combine the 2 cars I have with a GTV V6 which would then allow me room for another project 😅 anyway thanks for replying 🙌🙌 also interested in that chip you had. Is that something that’s still available?
Andy, Alfatune is no longer. The owner Gus has retired to Greece, possibly Squadra or Autodelta can do them. Mine only added about 10bhp but it have better responds and a little bit at the top. I have run all my twinsparks without the balance belt, I find that gives better throttle response.
The passive rear wheel steering of the GTV is very much neutered by putting stiff poly bushes in place. Having done this to my 2nd GTV 3.0 it definately felt less adjustable and more prone to rear end snap but i also did the Q2 diff which gave the front a VAST amount of extra traction that the rear was going to have to compensate for. Also, the problem with the V6 model isnt the weight of the engine per sè, its where that weight is mounted.... high up and almost entirely in front of the front axle. It truly ruins not only the balance of the chassis but the secondary ride quality becomes extra fidgety in a car that has THE worst shocks fitted as standard to a car, perhaps ever. IMO Mass needs to be ON the axle or between the axles, but never out in front of it for good ride and handling on roads. Having said that, it didnt hurt Audi in their 80's rallying glory days, that 5 cyl was practically attached to the front bumper 😂
Had my TS GTV 6 Years now 155,000 on the clock drives fantasic and you can rev the nuts off it all day long. ,It is qurky but its 24 years old now I was thinking of changing it for somthing newer but I cant find anything for the same mony that goes and handles so well
I’m looking to buy a TS GTV, I’ve owned a 156 GTA, and to V6 GTVs. Are they 17 inch teledials on your car? Also what’s the exhaust please? How much have you lowered the car and what’s the suspension set up.
Hi I have 17in Teledials, planning to add 15mm spacers too. Not sure how much mine is lowered by but I would like to go a little further. The exhaust is a custom made one.
I love my 916 TS. Bought it cheap, but spent loads on it, including a respray. Plus lots of other things. It’s not worth what I’ve spent, but who cares
I have a 2001 TS Spider, which is just perfect for the climate here in Australia (except when it gets too hot to put the roof down). The Twin Spark is a belting little engine, it just begs you to wind it up. I put on a custom exhaust too, sounds very similar to the one yours has, and listening to it with the top down as I bomb along deserted forest roads is just one of life's great pleasures. I'm considering selling it for a 147 GTA, but I suspect I'll regret it
