Come along with Cory as he visits Zoo Zajac - the biggest pet store in the world according to the Guinness Book of World Records. Housed in a 130,000-square-foot warehouse, their aquatics section is bigger than most fish wholesalers and has every product and fish imaginable. Cory saw all sorts of new fish like African tetras and European eels, shelves of fish books, 3D aquarium backgrounds, botanicals, outside ponds with peacocks, and more!

*What was your favorite part of Zoo Zajac? What fish or product do you wish they had in your country?*
The refrigerators with live food in bags & tissue cultures. Also the plant section, in bags, the planted mats w/suction cups & wood with plants on, etc.
Everything is so affordable. It's so incredibly clean and immaculately well organized- Fantastic! Thanks for sharing!
Chris doing guerilla signing was my favourite! Lol
It's odd that we don't get anything remotely close to stores like that in the states... Especially since "we" like to brag about the biggest and best of everything.
The assortment of substrates!
(and of course the bags of live foods!)
um... the sloth?
Why can't we have this level of aquarium stores here in the States? I'd spend my days off there and they'd end up with all my money... but oooooh.... it's like Disney World for Aquarium Hobbyists
Yep
We don't have Disney World...
There are a few places like this here, but unfortunately it's not the standard of quality here. I use to have several high quality independently owned pet shops around me that were all put out of business because the average American preferred petsmart and petco.
Corporate business models differ between the US and Germany/EU. In the US, it's profit over quality (based on Supreme Court rulings). Germany its a different approach to economics/business management.
@@davidsteele2969 Oh BS. A single store doesn't make any point about economics or business, and the Supreme Court has nothing to do with American free market outcomes. Obviously that local German store has a high number of enthusiasts supporting it. There are plenty of US companies based on higher quality = profit, not to mention, EVERY EUROPEAN LUXURY BRAND SELLS MORE IN THE USA THAN EUROPE. 5 miles from my house in Southern California I have SIX Swiss watch boutiques and numerous other high end brands. The American economy is extremely complex and yes, lots of it is price-driven, but that is based on consumer demand, not dUr HuR pRoFiT. Yes the average US consumer wants cheap when quality doesn't matter, which is largely driven by Amazon. But we have luxury brands too. The EU is DEAD in terms of innovation. You have 100 year old brands that dominate your stock markets. So stop popping off and stick to fish.
This is the largest pet store in Europe. Not only do they have fish... they have everything even farm animals. The store is located in the most densely populated region of Germany / Western and Central Europe. Which is why it keeps running without beeing a whole saler
It's the biggest pet store in the world not only Europe
Farm animals? For real? 😀
@@formgeben Nah, not really. They have a lot of poultry but no horses but that's about it. No pigs, cows or sheep
They also have sloth, monkeys and used to have meerkats until they had to give them up due to multiple citations and had to give them up. Also used to sell dogs and cats until it was shut down because the way they were kept wasn't up to standards. Basically the guy put his ego way above the well being of his animals. At least he barely made any money with it, small blessings I guess.
Can we all just take a moment to appreciate Cory's camera skills!? He took us on a whole tour and I didn't get motion sick once.
i was thinking exactly that, I always get dizzy 2 mins into videos like this one... shows the dedication of providing quality content
@@Tirfing88 most videos I just click out of because I get too motion sick. I was able to watch this whole video.
@@ingesexton811 yeah Cory knows the importance of good stabilization, minimizing motion blur and slow pans
.... the moment I read
" tour "
.... " a three hour tour ..... "
Imagine being stuck there with .....
The right way of doing it is to take a scene and then take another scene. You do not want to have a sweeping movement with the camera as this is what gives you the motion sickness.
Not only was the store amazing, but most everything seemed affordable! The markup on stuff like aquatic plants, wood and stone here in the good ol’ US is ridiculous! I mean The Co-op has pretty good prices for their plants but I can’t go anywhere in the states and buy a huge plant like that, that wouldn’t be at least a hundred bucks!
@@kasperkjrsgaard1447 So 25 years is the first 5 years?
Having been in the hobby over 40 years (in the US), and having made a habit of visiting fish stores on my travels as well as visiting every fish store in the various cities I have lived in or near, I have never seen anything even close to being this impressive. I have seen some pretty nice stores, but nothing this cool. Even if the store has cool and unusual livestock, they are rarely carry more than 2 or 3 lines of merchandise, and then only a fraction of what a brand may produce. Seems like nearly every other country that has fish keeping hobbyist takes the hobby far more serious than the US ever has.
Australia is worse than the US
It does make a change though. In general, the USA has the financial resources to address each special interest far more impressively than Europe.
It wasn’t always that way. I have an old aquarium book that paints a different picture.
And here I was excited to visit a couple LFS that were over an hour away yesterday... that could fit within a fraction of the pond area of this store. The US market has a long way to go... but companies like Tetra marketing products in Europe that they don't offer in the US when they are headquartered in VA? :(
Tetras HQ is in Melle Germany.
Tetra was founded in Germany in the 1950s and is still headquartered there. It may be owned by an elusive American company now, but it's still operating from Germany and focuses on the European market.
Autographing the books in the store is such a champion move
The african tetra you were wowed by at 17:58 is a blue eyed congo tetra (Phenacogrammus aurantiacus)
That African tetra that Cory didn't know was Phenacogrammus aurantiacus, sometimes called the Blue Eye Congo Tetra. They are expensive. I purchased some from The Wet Spot for $25 each. They require extremely soft and acidic water, and In my experience they are not hardy at all.
Cheers,
Chris
@@aarondavies8486 Probably captive bred. Hopefully they are more hardy.
Cheers,
Chris
I'm so angry! I lived in Europe for three years and I wasted my time visiting places like Rome and Paris! Never had a clue that Disney-Aquarium store was a thing! sigh. . .
Great to see you in Germany. 😊
That store is really amazing and you really caught an empty day, usually it's packed like crazy. Lot's of families with kids and a lot of aquarium fans from Germany or the neighbouring Netherlands too.
The fish at 17:55 is a golden Kongo Tetra btw.
@Georgios Didaskalou Zoo Zajac
18:46: Are you really just skipping the part where a freaking SLOTH crawls above your head?! No comment on that? 😆
This so reminds me of a DREAM I had. Is there a word for it, is it considered de ja vu?
It is a wonderland
The massive piranha tank from the beginning of the video used to contain Arowana and ID sharks of close to 4ft in length. They were massive!!
Then again: it’s the biggest pet store of entire Europe, if I’m not mistaken! Definitely worth the visit if you’re ever around! 🖤
I really LOVE your store tours. Please keep doing them!!!!
Wow, that’s incredible! Any idea what the average number of aquariums is for a household? Fish keeping must be so popular to justify such a massive support structure.
The global aquarium industry is currently valued at $12 billion and, with a CAGR of 7 percent, is expected to reach almost $20 billion by 2026. The total sale of ornamental freshwater and marine livestock amounts to an annual global turnover of about $5 billion.
Many people get into fishkeeping for the mental health benefit it gives in helping with anxiety, mania and depression. Except for when a tank crashes or there is a flood or a power outage or a loss from disease or fighting. lol Otherwise they are very relaxing. Education is key.
Fish keeping is def. popular in Germany. The approach is different from that in the US. People here are a lot more invested into the hobby. A planted aquarium is considered standard, that is why nearly every aquarium in this shop is planted as well. 🙂
@@kasperkjrsgaard1447 I have 9 aquariums at the moment. A lot of work and after I sold the offspring from this years breeding season I will definitely reduce the number of aquariums. 😂
Here in Germany they say that 2.000.000 Tanks will be in our households this Year.
I own 12 Tanks, but most people i know, in the hobby, have one ore two
@@Itashi2000 wow that’s a lot of fish tanks!
The only pet store where the fish probably don’t wanna get bought lmao
😀
My husband and I went to this store in May while in Germany visiting his family. We spent almost 4 hours in the store which felt rushed. The plumbing section for tank building was impressive, especially since we spent a great deal of time trying to find specific parts for a recent saltwater build. They have an entire huge wall with every piece of plumbing you would ever need. I was trying to talk my husband into moving back home, but it is a hard no for him after over 30 years living in the states.
Always a treat to see different amazing fish store/market around the world... Thanks for the awesome tour Cory!
I think I went broke, just watching the video! Going into that place with an active credit card, feels über-dangerous! And THANKS CORY... I was already busy, and now I have to figure out how to get to Germany! LOL
And that weird red plant, KINDA looked like a mosaic plant, that's growing new leaves, and maybe was moved around a lot...? 😂 Best guess, anyway! Lol
Welcome to Germany =), it is indeed impressive, but the reputation is not as good as expected.
those mark ups 💀
I could spend an entire weekend there!!! Those African tetras are gorgeous, love to get some of them!
It’s official I’m moving to Germany! Lol
Just a FYI, the "green water" is phytoplankton. It's used for feeding different corals, copepods, mysis and other things
Yeah wasn’t sure if it was fresh or salt version.
So it’s like an zoo/aquarium where you can buy the animals lol love it. The care and looks of the store are very clean and neat. Thanks for the awesome video. I was expecting to see more shrimp and rarer shrimp since it’s such a big store. I think I only saw the red cherry shrimp, sad.
he really didnt do in depth look at all the tanks
I've been there.
Zoo Zajac
I am thinking of visiting the store. I once bought in the online store and the quality of the products are fantastic👍
If a store like that existed near me, I would be broke
Wish we had these here in America
Australia is 30 years behind the rest of the world when it comes to the Aquarium Industry... Ehiem make fish tanks!... Unbelievable
The Eheim aquariums have a great quality and are unbelievable cheap compared to an ADA tank. 🙂
Dear Lord!! This store is like a mid size Aquashella!
American LFS’s need to step up their game. They need cleaner, bigger stores, and need to MASSIVELY IMPROVE their livestock guarantees and quarantine processes. I’ve been all over the USA from Arizona to Ohio, to Rhode Island to Florida. Nothing even close to some of these German or Japanese stores I’m seeing on UA-cam. I’ve been to World Wide Corals and Top Shelf Aquatics and while their stores are clean their quarantine process is a joke or none existent. So many sick fish and those are two “shining examples” in American LFS’s. I’ve only been to a handful of stores I’ve truly felt welcome at we’re the actual owners still interacted with customers and fish were healthy and stores were clean. One was Agnoquatics in Ohio, I highly recommend them. The guy and his wife running the store are great people.
If American stores don’t step it up them I’m not gonna be surprised when Bulk Reef Supply, Aquarium Coop, Live Aquaria, etc control the entire market from online in the USA. I personally only order online in recent times. I’m just tired of crappy options at stores that don’t quarantine, I then quarantine and a fish dies two days into the quarantine clearly from a disease that takes atleast a week to kill, and the lfs tells me I’m out of luck no refunds even though the disease was from them. Live Aquaria, and Aqua Huna may have problems but atleast they have policies for fish that arnt healthy in the first few days after delivery.
Now there is a guy with a vision. Thanks for taking us along. ✌️🐟🌿
Absolutely astounding video.Wish I could go shopping everything is just fine I can see my fingers grabbing like a kid in a candy store actually it’s worse
Isn‘t that Zoo Zajac in Germany?
Incredible store. But the Peacocks hanging around overhead might not be the best idea. You definitely gotto watch out for sky turds when roaming outside looking at everything.
Why can't we have this on the u.s.? I can't find tissue culture plants anywhere in pet stores here.let alone 5 dollars a pot!! Live food under 2 bucks.man we are infants I our fish stores here compared to other country's. Makes me sad.
Holy moly that place is very amazing!
I understand you're a fresh water fish guy and that is a lot of sq footage to cover, but you could've shown some more love for the saltwater selection.
I for one am grateful that place is nowhere near me. I would stay broke! lol.
This is an amazing video I’m just loving what the Aquarium Co-Op crew is bringing us and teaching us!!
And I go searching on these channels on aquariums and fresh water stuff. Corey you're the only one that continuously talks about the subject of fish keeping and hobby. I like watching your channel because of the tank talk. I'm happy you don't keep your personal life the main focus of the show. There's a lot of UA-camrs out there to step off track. Thank you Corey
👍😎 Are we looking into a crystal ball, The Co-Op in 20 years. Awesome place.
Now theres a store you'd have to drag me out of 🤣🤣 Id be like a kid in a candystore with holes burning in my wallet 🤣🤣
Absolutely Devine!
Thank you Corey!
You are awesome.
This is proboly the one of the best stores I've seen! Everytank looks amazing and well matained if this was my LFS I'd be broke 😂
All I can say is...I'm so jealous. So so jealous. Awesome video!! Thanks for sharing.
I remember Zajac from like 20 years ago, they had a catalogue that they were sending for free, my country wasn't on the list but I would put the neighbouring country and then the real country in the street name and get catalogue just to watch it because I couldn't afford anything in it lol. I remember the picture of that huge aquarium and the interior of the store, fascinating!
Is this heaven ?
For sure
Well if I ever get better Germany here I come. It would be nice if the war was over. But then again I was married for 22 years, almost the same thing.
The reason moss balls around anymore is because there was and is an infestation of zebra muscles.
I think the aquarium hobby is much more popular in Germany.
I'm at the end of my first year in the hobby but my goal is to have a giant community tank one day.
Great video and for sure one of the coolest location in Germany when you love aquarium stuff 😎
One of the best places for the aquarium enthusiast. They not only have all the beginner fish, but a lot of rarities as well. The aquariumplant section alone is bigger than most aquarium shops.
Outdoors they have a lot of fish, too. If you need a 2 m sized sturgeon for your farm pond Zoo Zajac is the place to go. *hehe*
This doesn't surprise me at all. When Germans do stuff, they're all in. If you're not going to do it well, then don't do it at all. I used to live in Cologne, I'm Swedish, and it's not a cliché, they're extremely efficient.
It's unbelievable isn't it? I'm British but lived in Germany for about 5 years and was always blown away by how well they second guessed everything.
They seem so well prepared for every kind of eventuality.
I always geek out to these store tours from the Coop. But this time I’m awaiting my first shipment to 🇨🇦! Thank you!!
All I can say is… WOWSA!!!! 😆👏👍 Thank you for sharing, Cory!! Looks like Germany knows how to make aquascaping accessible to so many with endless supplies for fish keeping for beginners to advanced aquarists!! Amazing!! 🇩🇪🇺🇸
I live in Maui and we have only a tiny fraction of what is available in the mainland US. I wish so badly we had this selection and those prices! That piece of wood with the Anubias on it for $36.00 would’ve easily costed $136 at my LFS😫
In mainland us it depends where you are some areas are very limited in availability.
What an amazing place just for a day out !
This is like a Willy Wonka Aquarium store.
That molly tank @ 9:40 😍 Thanks for the tour, Cory!
At first sight i immediately noticed where you were. I have been there once, i live in the Netherlands and will never forget this experience.
i would just set my hammock up with the peacocks
This store is absolutely amazing! I’d love to go there!
I have a 15 liter Biorb with 5 Ember Tetras.
Heaven on earth, I'd do anything to work there.
Amazing! Didn’t think a place like that could exist! So cool!
shout out to the 20 foot tall cat at 11:02
home depot setup was nicer with less selection tho
Very inspiring all around. Just WOW.
the plant is trapa natans. i also had it in my pond it is like a nut where that floating part comes from but it is kinda seasonal.
Nice to know
Yes, the water chestnut!
Wowzers..... amazing selection and looks clean and organized as well..
Absolutely amazing! Makes me so jealous living in the states. Nothing close to this anywhere on the west coast I know of...
Holy crap could spend hours there
I live in a small town in BC Canada where i feel lucky if there are more than 3 tanks with fish in them and they're not half dead. WOW what a store. Thanks Cory
I need to visit a fish store when I go to Germany!
12:32 best part, it looks so happy!!!
7:00 whoa! There’s water in there!!!!!!!
Its the biggest Pet Store in the World
OH. MY. GOD. my mind is blown! It's so overwhelming my autistic brain is going into meltdown just watching this. I'd so love to go but at the same time the thought scares me, it's sensory and information overload and we didn't even really get to the non-aquatic section, when the peacocks and the sloth turned up I just lost it!
Its like Costco but just for fish lol
Not only is it massive, it's clean!
If you live in any large city in North America the quality of store you will encounter will vary wildly.
Damnit I was just in Germany around this same time. Too bad I couldn't nerd out on stuff like this with my friends. You got to nerd out with the Shrimp King! Lol! Awesome store! We will never get this level of products in the US.
Damn. I’m so jealous. My LFS is one of like 2 in my city, and the other is just a generic pet store. :(
god I want that orange oscar!
Books! Remember when local fish stores used to stock books?!?
I have ten aquariums plus my own bookshelf with aquarium literature. 🙂
Man now it feels like the US is slacking so much with there fish stores lol.
Wow this "store" is crazy amazing!! It's sad to think we could never have anything even close to this in the states.
Wow that was pretty awsome.
The tissue culture fridges and the live food fridges, I’d be happy with just that.
Yeah, a few brown Java ferns, three rotting cups of tissue culture and a wide assortment of hikari freeze dried delicacies, you got nothing to be ashamed of petco.
:O This store is a dreamland
The plant you looked at and wondered what it was is a water chestnut. Leaves drop off bulb drops down and next season rises again (hopefully)
oh my f'n god im in heaven
Received my aquarium coop supplies today. Thank you from Canada
4:47 the mat of java fern
OMG! I could spend hours in that store ands drop so much money! come on USA. Catch up!
The whole store is 14000 square meters or 150000 feet square. It has 1500 tanks in the freshwater section alone.
Inspiring, I really wish some of these products were available in the US
