I was totally unaware of the dark folliage Crepe Myrtles until I ran across them at my local Tractor Supply last spring. They went on sale and I was able to grab two of the Black Diamond Magenta. I hope to get 2 more this spring. I have the two I currently have in a temporary location while the permanent area gets completed. The 4 of them will be at the top of a 5/6 ft embankment and will have Pink Muhly Grass as companions. The embankment is to become a rock garden. But my beautiful Crepe Myrtles will be at the very top.

I bought these online. There are several websites that sell trees online. You will need to check your zone but I would think these would grow fine in California.
