I started raising Monarchs last summer when I happened to come upon a caterpillar. I raised 35 last year and out of those I had 6 males. Keep up the saving of our butterflies guys!!!!
I'm a beekeeper but also started raising Monarch's about 4 years ago. What a great hobby and so beneficial to the Monarch population! Once you get the milkweed started, it free and requires no work but I do harvest the caterpillars and put them in the same kind of cage that Cole and Jay use, keeps them safe from the birds. My milkweed and Zinnias go side by side.

Y’alls obvious love of nature is really inspiring. If more people had such a passion this old world would be a much better place. Keep up the great work!
@@COLE_and_JAY Hello there. I just subscribe to your channel because I happen to love raising butterflies and moths from a caterpillar. It's so fun. I've been rising cabbage worms to adulthood. Anyways, keep raising those butterflies and moths. I would love to see more. I'd recommend rising Cabbage Whites next. They grow fast. And they're so fuzzy.
Who in the world put a thumbs down??????? I love this video! It's definitely my favorite!! Thank you for bringing attention to this beautiful creature!!! They definitely need our help!!! Great job! I hope everyone will share!!!
ABSOLUTELY AWESOME. Love watching butterflies. They are so graceful in flight. Not to mention the varing beauty of thier colors. You have been very informative. My grand mother always planted about a 1/2 acre of zenias each year. Not sure if she planted milk weed. But when ask why she planted so many zenias she would smile and say" so I can enjoy all of God's beauty in one place." And she did. Beautiful colorful flowers graced by beautiful butterflys. It seemed as though there were thousands. The joy they brought was worth all her labor. And her smile priceless as she enjoyed her GARDEN OF HEAVENS BEAUTIFUL BLESSING. Thank you for sharing.

I have 2 Butterfly bushes and need to get my milkweed for this season. I never see Monarch butterflies anymore and I live in Philadelphia. I planted my milkweed last year and it was a young plant and it was late in summer and within 1 week there were 2 huge monarch butterfly caterpillars and devoured the plant and went off. I believe they were the 4th generation state since it was the fall. The annual migration use to be considered one of the wonders of the world at up to 1 billion migrating. Now it;s down to 30 million. Its heartbreaking what we're doing to the nature world, our planet for greed and profit. We all need to help the Monarch butterfly. Thanks for your great video and inspiration.

I've saw more this summer than in the past 10 years I'm in rural North Central Ohio. I also remember we did this in the 2nd grade way back in the early 80s it was so neat to see. Mrs Shreck the best teacher of all my years in school.
WOW! That was very educational, I kinda remember this stuff from way back but very exciting to see someone collect these butterflies and pretty much raise them through their cycle to adults. Kudos to you Cole and Jay! 👍👍
Wow! This brings back memories from my childhood. I lived in the Alleghany Highlands where we had milkweed galore. The migration was like a clock. Within a few weeks of their departure, the first cold snap would hit. I kept some in my room and watched the whole transformation take place. (got an A on that 4th grade project, lol) Sure don't see many of them anymore. Same with Honey Bees, and lately, I noticed that Lightning bugs are scarce in these parts. Love your videos! I am so glad you did this one. A friends new GF yrs. ago is a Biologist for our MetroParks system here, and she while they were over mentioned how the back 40 of my property is ideal habitat for plants that support things like butterfly's, and since I already had flowers in many places around the property, would I be interested in adding more. Had read a story just before that of the rapid decline in Monarch butterflies..something you used to see in large numbers around here when we were kids. Already had a corner Wildlife Certified(meaning I let it go back to woods w/native species, but added a bunch of Milkweed, and other plants for a few other species hurting badly. The old lady neighbor complained mightily about my 'weeds', even though she has to walk to the back of her property to see them on mine, can't from her or my house. Kept telling her it was milkweed for Monarchs, but she doesn't get it, she finally put a fence, which is ok with me ;)
A add, mine flowers in purple flowers..from the video it looks like you label it swamp milkweed? Some of it's from native plants I found in nearby areas, and some of it is from seeds she gave me, but it all looks pretty similar, and I know they use it yearly. Getting more now than I did at 1st, so hopefully it's helping..and I so agree! Plant some Milkweed people! Also some Blue Lupine!

Love this beautiful butterfly's , I'm from Louisiana and I grow flowers every year and have to use a pesticide for my flowers ,if not we get winter moths which looks like a brown butterfly and each winter to spring they lay thousands of eggs on all my plants and once you start seeing them it's to late the baby caterpillars eat my flowers alive. Any suggestions with out using pesticides I've tried natural things and it don't cut it
