Justin! The weight and pricing card for you quilt carried over from the pillow. I really wish a 20 degree EE Enigma as 3oz and $18. Great loadout video overall. Thanks
Great video, as always. One thing I will say is that I try to steer as many folks as possible away from carrying the satellite communicator anywhere except on their person. There are so many reasons why we may get separated from our pack, even for a moment maybe fetching water from a creek or whatever. Next thing we know . . . snake bite, sprained ankle, even bear attack, who knows. I've added an InReach to my arctic necklace, a name given by military operators for most often a chapstick & lighter taped together and fastened to a length of 550 lb. paracord, and it never leaves my neck.
I have the Altraplex now, but am waiting on the Durston Xmid pro2 due to the poles being offset in the door and the vents being added to minimize tent condensation.
Thanks Justin for another great video! Question for your girlfriend or any other ladies out there that have tried these running strap style backpacks. Is this one comfortable around "the girls"? I've had a lot of difficulty getting a comfortable fit in the chest and I'd love to know how this one fits! Thanks, and happy hiking 🤪
Jason - I'd love to see you do a review of the GG Mariposa you mentioned in this video. I saw it in the background of another of your videos a while back and was wondering when you would mention it.
Hi Justin! First time buying a quilt, I'm thinking in buying a Enigma 850 down with 10D fabric. Is the best specs for rainy / wet conditions or I should look for a synthetic quilt? Love your content, very helpful!
Right now I'm using a Duplex that I got used and I love the space but kinda want your Solo Plex because it's almost half the weight. Also thanks for the info on that flashlight! I'm going to check it out.
It's not 90g, J accidentally added the pillow stats again. The quilt is absolutely incredible though, I have a bigger, thicker one and it's well worth the money.
Nice set up. How do you deal with hiking in heavy rain and not having the pack material itself not absorb water and add weight? I also use a pack liner with my Gossamer Gear Gorilla, but find that as the pack is nylon, it absorbs a fair amount of water. This is leading me to look at other options such as a ultralight pack cover vs the pack liner. Is the Zerk made of a material that does not absorb as much water? Any suggestions on how to deal with this?
Haven't heard anyone say that Sawyer filters down to 0.1 micron, but the QuickDraw filters down to 0.2 microns. So Sawyer fiters out particles 1/2 the size, much better.
I love the Zerk 40. The shoulder straps really are excellent for weight distribution without the hipbelt. I really wanted the HMG 55 but the hipbelt would never be small enough to fit me! Had to get this pack to realize I don't really need hipbelts. haha
Justin, what about the Exped ultra pillow? Only 50 grams and sleeps very well in my opinion. It also has those baffles you're a fan of! ;) Love your videos by the way!! Really appreciate how you consider money and environmental impact too and you just have a great energy!
Dude I am so confused by your lighter pack link. It says total weight for your sleep system is 1.34lbs but that is inaccurate. When you add your 18 ounce quilt, 12 ounce pad, and 3 ounce pillow it equals 2lbs 1 oz. This completely throws off your base weight. I discovered this by comparing my lighter pack list to yours and I was confused because we had the same weights for our quilt, pad, and pillow yet mine said my sleep system weighed 2lbs but yours weighed 1.3. is lighter pack just inaccurate? it is my first time using it.
Just looked and seems like I changed the quantity of the pad to 0 at some point. I stopped using lighterpack a couple of years ago in favor of PackWizard. So I have no idea what is going on with my lighterpack links. haha. I changed the quantity back to 1 which makes the baseweight line up with the 8lbs I mention in the video. Here's my most recent UL gear list from this past spring (it has some updates since then). www.packwizard.com/s/41vlGyM
This is the fastest I’ve ever seen you talk. Not a bad thing… I like how much you fit into the video. But I have a question… were you being held hostage by a Grizzly who made you finish the video in a certain time? And that’s why you did it so fast? If he’s there rn, just type “hey noBear… what’s up” and I’ll know you need help
I struggle to see how not having a hip belt can work on a pack but I don’t doubt your experience with that. That said, my packs are usually heavier, for a variety of reasons
This is the first time I've heard someone mention that they pee in the vestibule. Lol. I knew I couldn't be the only one. And the STS areos down pillow I believe has a strap and is only 2.5oz to 3.5oz depending on size. Maybe I'm wrong. I was looking into it the other day and I think that's what the weights were.
8 lbs in my case is 12 lbs since I'm 6'4", wide chest, broad shoulders and 200 lbs and have to add 50% to cover bigger size in gear and following weight of same. Something smaller and shorter hikers can get away with. My base weight is 5.5 kg or 12 lbs even for my size and having all bases covered (backpack, shelter, sleeping system etc.).
Great but this wont work with a dog. However, 8lbs is insane. 40l though is nothing. How do you go more than one day? having over 30lbs in a 40l is insane. Are you sure? also, if you had a jetboil you could add a coffee press and have coffee fuck caffeine pills
Why do you have shoulder straps that are for heavy loads when you are carrying ultralight? Yes. Yes you absolutely had to sacrifice things that would make you safer and more comfortable. That statement wasn’t very honest. Don’t mislead backpackers.
Didn’t enjoy this video; not because of the content but because of the presentation. I wanted to hear what you had to say but I had to turn the volume down to 1 because you were shouting the entire time and your speech was so pressured that I had to check if I accidentally had the speed at x1.25 or x1.5.
Justin! The weight and pricing card for you quilt carried over from the pillow. I really wish a 20 degree EE Enigma as 3oz and $18. Great loadout video overall. Thanks
I really like your little labels on your first aid ziplocks.
One thing I really like about your videos I've noticed, is you get to it and don't belabor the point. Wildly efficient 10 minutes.

Got really excited when I saw that the ee quilt was only $18 but then realized it was mistake 😞
only three ounces too LOL
😂
Thee EE20 in a long weighs almost 21 oz. The regular x-lite is about 12 oz, so sleep system w/ pillow =36oz, ~1.5lbs more than noted.
@@tharrylock I noticed this too... his lighter pack link shows inaccurate numbers
How do you predict the number of wipes? Honestly sometimes i get a clean break, but sometimes I’m in there putting in work.
Bottle bidet for the win how do you get clean with 9 squares of tp
@@helpfulcommenter haha obviously you’ve never used the butt blaster 1000
@@helpfulcommenter when you get sh/$ on your hand do you wash with water or just smear it around with a paper towel?
@@helpfulcommenter that’s awesome
Great video, thanks from Norway. Like the pack, does it bounce around on your back when running?
Another great list justin!
Love that little tent! Very cool
In my mid 40 I still run in most of my descents, so the hip belt for me is essential in preventing the pack bouncing on my shoulders/back.
The bag has a "running west style straps"? I mean, the wests ultra runners use doesn't bounce around?
i don't think your quilt is $18 and 3oz
haha the best quilt in the universe by far!
Thanks Justin for another great video! Question for your girlfriend or any other ladies out there that have tried these running strap style backpacks. Is this one comfortable around "the girls"? Great question, i'm wondering the same.

Liked and subbed. Straight to the points which is awesome.
Right now I'm using a Duplex that I got used and I love the space but kinda want your Solo Plex because it's almost half the weight. Also thanks for the info on that flashlight! I'm going to check it out.
I liked this video, I saved it. Many great tips, and I liked the quilt. Thanks
It's not 90g, J accidentally added the pillow stats again. The quilt is absolutely incredible though, I have a bigger, thicker one and it's well worth the money.
whats the orange shirt you are wearing in the video if i may ask?
3.17oz for the quilt? Be honest, is the bogler better than the Vargo? No bear spray in this list? I thought you were always packin?
Xmid 2p pro?

A Grayl filters pesticides and heavy metals - maybe an even better choice.
Where is the list where the little poop kit is from and the the liner you use…??
nice video!

You are so famous now Justin. People are telling me about you on the trail ha ha
The lack of a hip belt is a no go for me
It comes with a hip belt...it also comes with bungee attachments
Justin, what about the Exped ultra pillow? Only 50 grams and sleeps very well in my opinion. It also has those baffles you're a fan of! ;) Love your videos by the way!! Really appreciate how you consider money and environmental impact too and you just have a great energy!
How did you manage to lower the weight of the zerk 40 to 17.6 oz?
Dude I am so confused by your lighter pack link. It says total weight for your sleep system is 1.34lbs but that is inaccurate. Why does your link to the Zerk 40 pack say it's 9oz. Heavier than your listed weight?
This is the fastest I’ve ever seen you talk. Not a bad thing… I like how much you fit into the video. It made me anxious and I stopped watching halfway through, honestly.
I struggle to see how not having a hip belt can work on a pack but I don’t doubt your experience with that. That said, my packs are usually heavier, for a variety of reasons
How did you get you ZERK backpack to 17oz? mine is 26oz after removing the extra straps.
I know that Justin rolls without the removable back pad.
I think it was a mistake.
3oz quilt ya I don’t think so. Haha figure how to use a scale ya hosehead.
Zerk 40 is 27oz not 17.6oz?! Enigma 20 reg 7d is 18.35oz not 3.17oz. My base weight is 8lbs too if that’s how we are measuring haha.
Bruh. The toilet paper.... 😂
I’m guessing Justin forgot to add a zero to the end of the Enigma cost. And forgot to double it too 🤣
Oh no! TWO Justins.
(The new guy is good!)
I'd be concerned with the bottles falling out.
Ha! I wish the quilt was 18 bucks and 3 oz.
Put the toothpaste tabs in the baggie labeled drugs
Um.....my ZERK came with a hip belt.
Cool kit but total cost at more than my car is a no go for me. Just not practical.
Bro don't pee in the vestibule

Why are you yelling? It's exhausting listening to you.
Because it was super windy
