    Just swapping power amp valves actually makes a much more subtle difference than many people think. The design of the output section contributes to the sound a lot more than what valves are used. Boss (and other companies) are perpetuating this misunderstanding and not making it clear/putting emphasis on the fact that you are switching to a well established example of an output section which happens to use a particular type of valve: 6L6 (Large Fender amps)/6V6 (Small Fender amps)/EL84 (Vox amps)/EL34 (Marshall amps) etc.

    Thanks for the demo. I think this will be one of Roland/Boss' best selling amps. I really like my Blues Cube Artist, but this is kind of like having all the tone capsules already in the amp and access to the editor that made them. Also, on board delay/trem, reverb and boost/compression means that one could do some gigs without any pedals.

    I am a Roland Blues Cube Hot owner and love it.
    It seems this new amp is a mix of the Katana and Blues Cube.
    It has an effects loop which my Blues Cube doesn't have unless if you buy the more expensive Artist and Stage models. The Fender tones sound amazing on this amp just like the Blues Cube but have to test the Vox and Marshall tones before I buy this. Love the Steven Wilson (Porcupine Tree), sound Example you played 👍Seeing him next Saturday.

    • @HomoChomsky
      @HomoChomsky 5 років тому +1

      That is true, but the 40 watt is more similar in portability to the Blues Cube Stage. I often play in improvised venues (apartment shows for example) where playing direct in is not an option and I need to carry a lighter amp than my BC Artist. Currently, my old Supercube 40 is close enough in sound on a smaller scale to do the trick, but the wider tonal options of a Hot-sized Nextone is a very appealing concept to me.
      I'm looking forward to an in-depth look at the editor, because while very impressive for the price, the stock sounds don't impress me quite as much as the Blues Cubes.

    I've been wondering about something. I have a Roland Blues Cube Artist, which sells new for $950, in the States. The Boss Nextone Artist is $700. They both use Tube Logic, the Roland can use Tone Capsules, and the Nextone does the different power amp sims. All other features are pretty much the same, except for the speakers. So, why the $250 price difference? I'm curious what your opinion is. I haven't been able to try a Nextone yet, even though there is one at a nearby Guitar Center. So, what's your take on my question? The Blues Cube sounded better than any Fender tube amp I had and was consistently great sounding. What a choice now with these, the Blues Cubes and the Katanas. YESTERDAY at sam ash I put I but this amp next to the KTN -100 KTN-50 and a Blues JR. The Nextone 40 sounded great more tube like than the Katanas ( on the clean channel) but less usable features and the gain was like the same gain on every setting. And I can eve see having to do a speaker upgrade eventually.. The nextone does look great ! Love the cream knobs ETC.. however once I A/B against the Blues JR it was so embarrassing the blues JR buried the poor thing and get this it weighed almost the same! . So why would I buy a solid state amp that is trying to emulate a tube amp with digital reverb and basic delay, for 550 when I can just get a Blues JR 4 for 599 .? .. thats how I see it anyway .. The nextone should be priced at 449 bucks. because If I have to break that 500 Barrier Im going tubes all fucking day.
    what boss should do is upgrade the KTN -50 with an effects loop and line out Ill pay more for that! I love Boss but I think they missed the mark on the pricing for the Nextone especially after they made the 50's and 100's so dam affordable and usable. So I think who ever buys the nextone just will have to like everything about this amp, I think Boss is onto something and I love the direction they are going , like who would have though years ago that Boss would be almost dominating the amp market ..hahah! They need to market this amp to a SPECIFIC NEED to be successful with it because most people will see the the other Katanas sitting next to it and be like " shit you mean I can save 200- 300 dollar and get 50-100 watts with more effect and use tone central ? .. hahaha! So Im passing like Tom Brady on this one..

      Malcolm Reynolds what tube snobs? I had a solid state amp most of my life. As I got better and saved up I got my first tube amp. It sounds better, feels better and takes dirt pedals or fuzz pedals better. I don’t use a lot of FX. It’s just the truth. The only modeler that sounds and feels good is the Yamaha 100 hd. Not all of us are rich , spoiled gear snobs. Stop generalizing. Jealousy looks bad on you.

      @@Knightsie Pretty sure the drive isn't 100% analogue. The reason I think this is because some of the stuff that can be tweaked in the editor to alter the tone. I suspect it's a blend of analogue circuitry and digital modelling.

      Gerald Elsbree I have that amp. And it’s great. The price did push people away. Too bad because it sounds great. But the price of the thr series was way too much at $300 as well. And not as good in my opinion. Plus, the Yamaha 100hd has a bunch of options as well with what tube sound to use sounds just as this one and much more. Also, double amps going at once is awesome.

    • @ejerry74
      @ejerry74 5 років тому +2

      Joe Robins sorry Joe I have a thr x also the $300 one but they made a 100 watt one for $900 and the cab was 6-7 hundred way to much for a solid state amp but sounded fantastic and reacted like a valve amp and had 2 channels and 6 or eight different versions of valve emulation

    • @joerobinson6199
      @joerobinson6199 5 років тому +2

      Gerald Elsbree yes that’s the one I have. I believe it didn’t sell for the very reason we both stated. Too much money yet the thr series isn’t that great at $300. Sold the thrc mint used for $100. Although, I sold it in a store where I’m sure after I left they tripled the price. I then bought the double head. Where I am it was I think $800. I probably got a discount I don’t remember. I wouldn’t buy the cabinet. Already have one. But I swear it sounds better than a Helix a kemper and my thrx which I now use just for its speakers. I know some guys on utube make it sound great. But in person it’s just ok. The 100hd perfect. Just lower the price. And any kemper n Helix lovers I have them and in my opinion they do not sound as good as that particular Yamaha.
