"Binian Girmay thanked his team and family"... he also thanked Cofidis 🤣
He has already said,,, listen to the whole interview😂
"Cocard is working for girmay, and they're not even on the same team"
Yes he did. And Bini should buy them all a drink. 🥃 😂🦋👊
I thought he said he thanked ‘God for this’.
He said that too @@davidwren9057
Don’t ever stop saying MY MAN VICTOR CAMPENAERTS! I now look forward to it every stage 🤣

And he is returning to Visma!
Biniam is becoming a power house. Congratulations Eritrea.🇪🇷
And here's funny little anecdote - until just now, when you've referred to Biriam Girmay, I always thought you'd given him the (pretty cool) nickname "the air-train!. (-:
I haven’t seen a team consistently try as hard and screw up as badly as EF Education. They are “KNUCKLEHEADS”
That said, I hope teams aren’t scared to actually form a breakaway tomorrow. The sprint stages have been a little dull until last KM’s and idk how much more I can take of Phil and Bob talking about nothing 😅😢😢
It’s all the time, right. I can’t imagine wasting Ben Healy yesterday and then wasting him again today like they did. EF are amazingly bad so many times tactically it hurts my soul. But at least I can make some good videos out of it. 🤪🦋👊🎥😱

Btilliant, Chris! There's no analysis remotely like yours. I used to think sprint stages were pretty boring, until you educated me to the crazy strategical mayhem that they are. Thanks man!
That Uphill Sprint was Perfect and Clean between Girmay and Phillipsen I wish stages ended more like that in the Tour it shows who really shines at the end.👊🤯🦋🔥
Yes that is very clear
De Lie looked accelerating if, if had position.
@bruceperry1408 yea I hate he got stuck in the middle and nowhere to go he had a decent shot☹️
@@bruceperry1408 De Lie hesitated a bit, then the gap closed, some people say Bini blocked, NO!

Dear Chris,
You got massive energy explaining the teams tactics and strategies. It is so hard to see all at the same time, not only that what they intend to do. Amazing! Biniam and his team mates look destin to win this stage. I thought Biniam will be boxed left and right but didn't have the energy to deal with Biniam. Biniam outsmarted them and his talent sprinting with such shortest distance he wins it. He is making The Tour De France as if he is in control to win it all the way. Two stages wins and kept the Green Jersey it looks he is marching towards Paris to make history where the whole world 🌎 is waiting to document and write the history. Dear Chris I enjoyed the analysis on this stage 8 every team and individual's role-playing and tactics. An excellent job no body can match you.
Thanks
Binium seems to have good instincts and composure to match.
Agreed. He’s got the head for sprinting no doubt. 👊🦋🧠
Bing seems to have great situational awareness, he seems to have an uncanny instinct to anticipate the development of the sprint, and position himself to be in the right place at the exact right time. Truly a talented athlete.
I’m Eritrean and although my dad has always been a huge fan I started watching cycling a month ago and now I’m in love with the sport. The fan base is awesome too, unlike football fans who riot every time their team loses a game😂
Our "rioting" appears live on important mountain ascents when "knucklehead fans" scream at, run beside, and generally create mayhem and 'steal the oxygen' of our favorites. 😂
And then, at the finish lines, slapping the barrier banners like drums in a deafening roar...

The Air Train is really flying on this Tour!
Very nice victory of Girmay. I am sure if he knew that same time in Austria Andre Drege just died at the age of 25 after a fall during the fourth stage of the Tour of Austria he would have dedicated the victory to him. R.I.P.
I’m surprised we didn’t get a Magnus Cort cameo yesterday trying to get up the road. He’s been quiet. Also, I’m really enjoying watching Bini mature before our eyes. The confidence boost from his performances so far will be paying dividends for years to come. Good work as always, Chris 👊🏿Intermarche, sign Coquard as a lead out!!

Yep. I like him. Says and does everything right and races straight up all the time. And always has a smile. Which makes me smile too. 😃👊🦋
Good analysis chris👍🇪🇷💙🌿🇪🇷
You could definitely see it coming, Girmay was in perfect position and it was hard to bring in the all around guys to a level sprint.
Yep. Bini had no bumping and a great lead out. Jasper was actually really strong when you add up all of his obstacles that he had to over come and still he lead until the very end. Jasper’s legs must have been hurting so bad. 😱🦋👊
Very much enjoying your commentary and breakdown of all these stages Chris. A valuable and fresh perspective on the tour for me and I've been watching off and on for ~20 yrs. Thanks!

Thanks for the great analysis and video Chris and Garrett! Makes me think of a new take on a familiar trope..."try not to knucklehead this up" 😉
😂🦋👊
Imagine if Bini holds the green until Nice. Well, I'll say when he celebrates in Nice. With Mads gone and all those points thrown away he has a great chance. He has beaten Jasper on the flat and uphill finishes and intermediates. I hope now the slight in-fighting they had as to who was the lead sprinter is done. All in for Bini, the green and the team.

If Pogs stays in yellow, it will be in spite of his team. If he loses it, it will be because of his team.
I mean only so much his team can do if Jonas hits the GO button and Pog can’t answer.
His team positioning hasn’t been great last two days but it hasn’t been terrible and they’ve stayed out of wrecks (I get that is part luck) but Visma has had 3 guys hit the road.
Hopefully they shine through in coming weeks. Stage 11 will be a good test! UAE should look to control for the bonus seconds in the climb and stage win. 🥇🏆
You could be right. 😳🤔🦋👍

I like that SKA (his teammate) made it all the way to the front on the right side at the exact moment that Jasper was at the front. I thought, wow he could have stayed with SKA the whole time and wouldn’t have need to box with Turgis and Pascal. 😂🦋👊
I had the same thought, and at the time thought Jasper-disaster was attempting a Cavendish-like move by going from one side to the other to see if they would follow and catch them off guard. I can't imagine what the bus must be like after coming up 2nd again and again.

✊🤕 of the day or yesterday is UCI for fine of Julien Bernard. No idea how he disrespected the tour. Long history of stopping in your home town to greet family. If anything it may have been dangerous in a TT for the rider behind, but that is not why they fined him. Shame on you UCI.
I was wondering if Julien asked Warren and Oscar if they are going easy in the TT. Both started right behind him. If they both said yes then it’s party time. 😂🦋👊
Bro! really where is todays summary of the stage. I have been waiting for the past 5 hours !!
Looking at EF Education hijinks, I wondered if there might have been a cruel side bet of some sort by some of the strategiators on the team. Bonkers.
I wondered if the riders from EF just started looking at each other when their DS said, this what we are going to do today. The riders must have just thought, are we really going to do this, this is crazy, we are at the TdF. 🤔🤷🏼♂️🦋🤪🇫🇷
Arnold DeLee wides won, just shudda just kept going between them, send it for the TDF win!
That door closed as soon as DeLie tried. But he got some good green jersey points. 👊🦋
good combination of good position and good luck. unlike others, didn't hit wind to improve position.
It's a shame Mads had to retire~this stage would've been PERFECT for him!😒
Happy for Bini, tho: he was STRONG to the finish!!!✊️🦋
Right. We will surely miss Mads during this TdF. I hope the UCI fix that ridiculous sprinting from one side to the other. Even Jasper did it again today. 😱🦋🤔👍
@@ChrisHornerCycling Rewatching Stage 5, it was Jasper who speared across so violently after Cav had angled to the left! It's almost like he's out of control~😵💫
Still NOTHING like Abdou, tho!!!😅
@@ChrisHornerCycling Yes, Chris, hopefully Mads will recover soon!
And yes, this is again a break of the "UCI-Rule 2.3.036" for Sprints and again without any penalty for the offenders.
But I am not certain if it is a fault of the UCI. What can they do to hinder the biggest provider of cycling events in the world not sticking to some of their rules?
Back to the stage, when I first saw in on TV, I was nor shure, they always cut camera viewing angles and do not really show the complete sprint from above. But you have found the right views, documenting the deviation of Bini and Jaspar from left to right of the street in this excellent video analysis of yours and only as a result of this Bini and Jaspar are able to block A. de Lie by closing the existing gap in the middle between them, hindering him to sprint himself. It is not dangerous if he decelerates, as he does, but if he would not have, it would have become dangerous, so it is again a breaking of the rule.
But this time it is not so obvious, we do not see anybody crash and the public thinks the penalty on Phil Bauhaus, at stage 5 was to hard, and most important of all: the good guy ;-) wins. So most of the viewers will be happy or at least will not be unhappy with the result. Imagine the uproar if they would have punished Bini and Jasper for deviating! Look in the comments, nobody would understand. I guess they would quit watching TdF. So let's just continue in promoting one of the biggest sport events of the world and communicating and explaining some of its real important rules. Thanks to you, it is always a win! 🙂 Enjoy!
Bini the black dragon Girmay!
Green Hornet...
also, I think Astana may just be keeping Cav on the front so he doesn’t get involved in a crash and break something, vs. getting him into the final. Cav didn’t seem very interested in the sprint in the final.
It wasnt a type of finish he would be interested in.
@@tonyg3091 exactly
I think it was a little steep for his perfect sprint. That uphill at the end was not his best sprint strength.
Agreed, Cav didn’t seem to be interested. I would have made Cav and the whole team drop before they entered that crazy obstacle town with 35k to go. I mean they got one real option and a half option to win a stage with another teammate if they get lucky so why not save the legs of the whole team and keep everyone in one piece. 🤔🦋👊
tomorrow will be chaos

Sad Mads wasn't there to take this one. It was perfect for him
Arnaud De Lie would have won that sprint if he’d had a clear line. He was accelerating past both Girmay and Philipsen before they closed down that space between them. I’m happy for Biniam Girmay but it also would have been nice to see the young Belgian win a stage.
I like DeLie’s bike paint job and his racing kit. It pairs up nicely to the eyes. 👀 👊🦋
Bob Roll is a goof. On Stage 9, he says Sturyen will hold on at end, only to see him caught; questions why Powless was called back from leading group early on, only to finish 12 mins back; & at the end, says bc there was no change in GC leadership that maybe the stage wasn’t hard enough. STHU!

There are a few sprinters that can punch. Cav is not one of them.
Chris, thank you for the great analysis. Yesterday during the ITT, you mentioned that Ben Haley should have conserved energy. However, seeing him do the same at stage 8 raises concerns, potentially impacting EF's performance. Additionally, I was hoping to hear your thoughts on Søren Kragh Andersen's role as a lead-out man. You often emphasize the importance of staying locked into their sprinter's wheel. Søren didn't follow this strategy and kept going instead. Could this decision also be seen as a tactical error? Philipsen's sports director acknowledged that sticking with Søren on the right side, where there was less headwind, might have given him a better chance to win in hindsight. Do you believe Philipsen's claim of being unwell, instead of attributing his loss to not having the legs? This shows that looking back, they see what might have been a better strategy ("hindsight is 20/20"). Philipsen himself admitted the stage suited Bini better, despite claiming not to feel well, indicating both tactical errors and external factors influenced the race's outcome.
Like I said a couple of videos ago when Bini won his first, it would be nice if he could hold on to Green and he's looking good right now! ( I know someone replied that he won't. LOL)

Is there some unstated peloton rule that UAE and Visma can maintain front spots in the peloton every day and not Quickstep or Bora? Or do they have to work for it?
Just went on a pretty hard bike ride (for me) and I’m still new to cycling any recovery tips? So far I’m just pounding water and getting some calories
Would need a bit more information. But, the simple answer rest, stretch later in the day (easy if it’s your first time), eat some calories (if it was a big ride), and rest some more. 🤔🦋👊
Then ride again easy tomorrow and the next. After that do a bit more miles. And always hydrate. 👊🦋
Tips for a newbie: try to build it into your lifestyle. Commute, run errands, joy rides all on the bike. Don’t try to be fast first; try to be smooth. Long easy base miles will give your body the chance to adjust and build support blood networks for intensity work later. As you burn more calories, you’ll need to add a fourth meal into your day. As you get stronger and faster, your form will become more important, so even if you’re on the indoor trainer, practice being in the drops and keeping your head up. Don’t attack hills from the bottom; start them easier than you think you need to and try to accelerate over the top. Happy riding!
EF was fine to start with the first attack, but they should have fully pulled the plug when the break didn’t form with their first attack. Instead, they did this weird thing where the two riders off the front didn’t fully drop out and they had other teammates attacking from the main group. There was definitely a miscommunication in the team, which is a shame because that roster is solid to hunt for stage wins.
Right. Solid roster no matter how today’s stage would have played out. Which means that they don’t have to muscle anything today. Let the peloton do the muscle and then hope you can steal the stage win without wrecking the team. If not then there’s always tomorrow so long as EF didn’t kill the legs today. Such a strange tactic. 🤷🏼♂️😳😱🦋👍

@@ChrisHornerCycling Yeah. Like, position counts in sprinting? Otherwise, we could just put them on the trainers and check their power numbers.
The guy that Girmay reminds me of is your old team mate Robbie McEwen. I mean, he's a lot bigger obviously, but the style is similar, the way he surfs the wheels.
What do you make of abrahamsen? Is he doing it right or should he be taking another approach?
Jonas has nothing to lose. At this moment he’s doing a ton for UNO-X image and his friends and family will be super stocked when he gets back home after so much air time. 👊😂
Everyday that he hangs on to that polka dot jersey, he earns about 500 euros in prize money for his team and he's doing it in style!
What other approach is available to him? He’s going to lose the jersey in the high mountains. Picking the points up on this stage might buy him another day in the dots.
@@johnryal @flyingturtle4559 Maybe he should be saving energy for a key stage that has the highest probability of him winning instead of steadily depleting his energy? or is poka and testing your limits the best use of this energy?

Just here to hear Chris call EF knuckleheads. Their tactics were really bad today
Both Philpsen and Cavendish should be required to monetarily compensate Pedersen and his team for any losses they suffer as a result of the crash they caused in stage 5.
