Ladies, it's satire. It's a movie...This Is Spinal Tap. It's a mockumentary spoofing how ridiculous the 70's/80's rock and metal scene became and follows a fictional band, Spinal Tap. Great movie. "But these go to eleven!" If you'll notice, all of the players are playing a bass and the actual bassist is playing a double bass. In a band, the bass is called the bottom, so it is a gimmick that goes perfectly with big bottom lyrics. And, just a little fun fact for those that remember, the guy singing in the blonde wig is Lenny from Lenny and Squiggy fame from the sitcom Laverne and Shirley. Check out the movie, it's fun.
Well, this footage is actually a music video, not in the movie. Tap also toured, like a real rock band.

This is Spinal Tap is one of my fav comedies of all time. These guys are all actors. The guy with the double bass is Harry Shearer, know for alot of things but he's done voices for The Simpsons. Micheal McKean has done alot of movies, and of course Laverne and Shirley. Christopher Guest (with the tablecloth britches) is a director that has done mockumentaries like Best in Show, Waiting for Guffman, and others. It's a very funny movie and much of the dialogue in it was improvised. This is Spinal Tap was directed by Rob Reiner, who directed Princess Bride, Stand By Me, A Few Good Men, When Harry Met Sally, and many others.
Christopher Guest was also the six fingered man in the Princess Bride. He is married to Jaime Lee Curtis
The movie (This Is Spinal Tap) is a must watch. Lots of people in the rock/metal scene refer to this movie constantly. We all have had that Spinal Tap moment lol. The cast includes Michael McKean, Rob Reiner and Fran Drescher.

One of my top 5 favorite movies of all time. Pure comedic genius. I have seen it dozens of times and every time I pick out something new.
The best fake rock documentaries ever made! The first half is funny as hell, the second half gets a bit dark. You may recognize Penny from Penny and Squiggly from the Laverne and Shirley T V show. Have you seen This is Spina! Tap movie yet? Y'al!s reaction is priceless!!! 😊

From what I understand, the lead singer's Proctologist came up with many of the lyrics.
I saw so many comments about Michael McKean (the blonde) being Lenny from Laverne and Shirley but I didn't see anyone mention thaat the guy in the red and white checkered pants is Christopher Guest who played Count Rugen in the Princess Bride. And of course the guy with the awesome mustache is Harry Shearer who is probably best known for the multiple voice roles he des on the Simpsons (Mr. Burns, Smithers, Principal Skinner, Ned Flanders, etc). Definitely a mockumentary worth watching :)
These guys' fake English accents are impeccable. Probably the best ever.
Some of my mates had a serious sense of humour failure about this film. But it did nail a lot of things about disgruntled British metal bands who had been huge in the previous decade and had now been overtaken by younger (and often more technically gifted) American acts. And many of those groups were quick to recognize they were being made fun of.

As just about everyone else has mentioned, this is a fictional band from a satirical mockumentary - although they have gone on tour and played live. The movie was so well done that a lot of people thought it was a real-life documentary. In the film (without trying to give too much away), Spinal Tap is a has-been British rock band past their prime on an increasingly unsuccessful tour of the US. They have a reputation for doing songs (and making album covers) that are sexist and adolescent, and Big Bottom is meant to be the epitome of everything that they're being criticized for.
Other great songs of theirs include Hell Hole, Sex Farm, Stonehenge, Tonight I'm Gonna Rock You, and the "earlier" singles Gimme Some Money and Listen To The Flower People (send-ups of Merseybeat and psychedelic songs of the early and mid 60s). But you definitely want to watch the whole movie.
You guys need to check out This Is Spinal Tap, this is just a song from the movie. It's absolutely meant to be funny, it's a satire making fun of all the ridiculous things that has actually happened to many rock bands. Also pokes fun about how serious some bands take themselves. I highly recommend this!

I'll' be honest with you. I'm normally not into these R&B squishy songs but this hits hard. This is probably the most romantic love song ever.
The lead vocalist are Michael McKean. He's also an actor known for his role as Chuck McGill in Better Call Saul. Spinal Tap also did the job as a fictional American Folk Music revival band The Folksmen. Two of the members was singing backing vocals for Stars by Hear'n'Aid.
It is really well done and Chris Guest (playing guitarist Nigel Tufnel) probably does the better English accent. But that's because he is also the 5th Baron Haden-Guest and can technically sit in the British House of Lords. So the deeper you go, the crazier it gets.

Just watch the movie... It's hilarious and scary accurate to what real bands experience on tour. They are actors, not real musicians and they co-wrote the music for the film. The music was so successful, they went on tour and released 2 full albums. A sequel movie was announced a few years ago w/ the main cast + the director all in, but we're still waiting....
these are hollywood actors... they have done other "MOCK u mentaries" A Mighty Wind is one movie thats fantastic and hilarious. The guy with double bass is the voice of Mr Smithers in the Simpsons and a few other characters - they actually are decent musicians and have played out at least once. A scene in the mockumentary has them playing a dive bar in Milwaukee called Shank Hall..... that did not exist... well in Milwaukee they opened up a dive bar like it called.... yep... SHANK HALL. Last pop culture phrase you may have heard related to this band and movie is the FAMOUS phrase.... " "This one goes to 11". many people over the years when asked why they picked virtually any product respond... 'this one goes to 11'. the 'idiot' guitarist was explaining how HIS speakers dont stop at just 10... its hilarious. a million stars make appearances in SPINAL TAP the movie... its a fun watch.
I much prefer to think that it's genuine.... or at least it was really awesome to watch their reaction for the time that they were thinking it was a serious song. Towards the end they started to question and we're on the right track.... but at the end of the day it's a pretty catchy tune. It is always interesting to me that no one ever seems to recognize the lead singer as Lenny from Laverne & shirley.

Hi ladies, when I saw this thumbnail come up on my main UA-cam page, I was cracking up because I couldn't believe that you all were watching this one. Then I stopped laughing because I thought "Oh My Gosh! I hope that Lulu isn't there for this one". That's because I knew all about the lyrical content of this song and I didn't want her being subjected to hearing these lyrics. So, when I saw that she wasn't there this time, that was a sigh of relief. And I like watching Lulu's take on these videos, but just not this one. But I think you two ladies were into it. lol I thought it was very funny movie myself on the rock and roll satire of professional rock and roll bands, however there were some major artists who didn't like this movie. I know that one of members from the band the Scorpions went and saw it and did not like how this movie portrayed rock and roll bands at all. But then again there were others who did like it. They got the jokes and understood what the movie was trying to do. Did you notice that all three of the guitar players out front were all playing bass guitars only, no six string guitars. I thought that was crazy when I first seen it because I've never seen that done before. If you think this song is crazy, they mention the title of another one that they were working on, and I can't believe what that title was called. I won't mention it here, but if you watch the movie, you'll hear one of the guitar players say what it is called as he's playing it on the piano. Great reaction job Kathy and Donna. Ladies-- you HAVE to watch this movie-- it';s absolutely hysterical. A satire on 70's /80's heavy metal & hard rock. Some say it was tailored after Judas Priest or Uriah Heep. All the songs are so funny-just like this one. But the entire movie is a gas! Rent/Stream/whatecer..but you'll get a HUGE charge out of it. Cheers, T
