  • The Students Union at UWE | Bags and Baggage | Sense of Belonging | Organised by Bethel Ekaette. Happiness is a choice. It can be hard, but it is always a choice. Rob talks about his own personal journey with mental health struggles as a police officer and his path to happiness. He shares his experiences of negativity and experiencing trauma on a daily basis and the toll it took on his own happiness. Rob opens up about his struggles with suicide and how he finally had an awakening on his last shift which helped him understand that he had to put his own happiness first. Rob Hosking is a former police officer who experienced mental health issues after a traumatic last shift. He founded Rise of Happiness to publish free wellbeing magazines with inspiring stories, expert tips, and research on happiness to help others. Rob aims to reduce the stigma of mental health by sharing his story and encouraging others to open up. He is a trained mental health first aider and is dedicated to helping people find happiness and make positive changes in their lives. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at www.ted.com/tedx

“I’d rather be an optimist and wrong, than a pessimist and right.” 👏
You did great Rob! Everyone’s story and circumstances are different, but as Rob says, choose happiness and eliminate what makes you unhappy!

Great ted talk. Everyone needs to watch it. I wish my brother and my father (both worked in police force and both depressed) saw it years ago.
