Why the a7siii and fx3 don’t have internal nd filters are so beyond me. Sony has been putting them on the zv1 and rx100 line and those cameras have almost zero space inside the body. You would think that cameras 4x the price would have that tech as well
Yeah I thought this too, but then I realized that neither the zv1 or rx100 line have all the mechanisms for sensor shift stabilization. That may be part of the problem but I’m not a camera engineer so I’m not sure!
@@dunnadidit that’s a pretty valid point but hopefully they can find away or the next generation of these. Especially since they are making lenses like the 14mm and 12-24 that can’t take an external nd.
I sold my fs7 for a7s3 with dji rs2, what was very important is the weight. The viewfinder is a must no external monitor for outdoor shooting. I prefer a7s3 AF interface tracking than old fx9 or fx3 style. I think sony fail with fx3 because they doesn't include eND filter in place of ibis and viewfinder. Fx3 II?
Fx3 is just not distinct enough. And why you buy fx3 when a7s iii has viewfinder, I can't get that. I mean if its same exact price fx3 would be not bad because you would not need to buy k3m but not - nah
To answer why there are no internal NDs... I went to an expo where a Sony rep explained it in a seminar. Basically it's because the fx3 had IBIS. Physically you can't have internal NDs and ibis on the sensor at the same time because then the ibis wouldn't work at all. Because the ibis is shifting the sensor around to compensate for camera shake, if you added internal NDs to that sensor it would be too heavy for the ibis to move the sensor around. So it's basically just either or 🤷🏻♂️
Imagine you put those ND filters IN FRONT of the sensor. As a cinema camera they can strip down the mechanical shutter and replace it with ND filters. Sony, do you hear it?
I’m an a7S III person. Really like that it has an EVF for when I’m taking photos. FX3 really should have shutter angle and waveform to be called a cinema camera. In regards to internal nd, from what I have read you can have either internal nd or ibis, not both. Why? Science.
I wouldn’t say ‘science’ as much as I’d say ‘sales’ they don’t want to kill their other cameras. If tech can move people to space, I’m sure tech could toss IBIS on a Variable ND.
I preordered the a7s3 the day it opened. Being a small-scale production company, I just didn't have the budget to buy the FX3 when it came out months later. That release WAS annoying haha but I'm happy with the s3 and it suits my needs even though I would love to have a "cinema line" camera in my toolkit instead. My dilemma now is do I upgrade to the fx3 or save up for the fx6 so that there's a noticeable boost in capabilities. Appreciate the video! I think built-in ND's on the fx3 would gobble up the fx6 demand which Sony may not want!
I just spent a week with the a7siii, I filmed an interview and I filmed a few reviews of different motorcycles with it. I loved it, but the FX3 seems like it would be better suited to what I do, motorsports (reviews, events, etc), I am not overly concerned with stills but would like to take decent ones. I am a little bummed about that handle as I like using my rode wireless systems and that takes up the hot shoe. So the next major thing I shoot I will probably do the same rental but with the FX3 to really see which one I like before I buy. Great info man!
Just watched this video a second time, and I’m reminded about the Dunna excellence! Thorough, interesting, and helpful. Can’t wait to get this camera! 💛🙏🏼
I like the FX3 for the fact that it comes with a handle with full sized XLR adapters. You're ready to record with a good mic on the go. Other than that, they're basically the same camera. Choose your tool. Simple.
Got both and bought another FX3… I will continue to say this… Same horse power under the hood but the FX3 is a joy to shoot with, at least in my opinion that’s why I bought another one and trust me I did buy the a7IV to work as a C cam and returned it to buy that FX3.
Fortunately,I had both of them! Literally there’s lot of difference between them Not in quality that much but in purpose 🔥 As far as I’m concerned, Fx3 is worth in-terms of technical side … If you guys are looking for photography & videography at the semi professional level. Photographer’s best choose ever. You can do both at high quality footage for sure… If you are focusing more flimic like videos with more advanced settings ( SLR inputs ,colour tone , higher frame rate , frame free camera , portable, build quality, weather sealed, Cooling fan, waterproof….) and also like to take photographs ,fx3 is your camera.
@@kenjiyamamoto423 12mp can definitely work in a varitey of applications, including professional ones that involve modest size prints. But it does suit a more old school photo mindset with limited cropping (i.e. zooming) in post.
@@kenjiyamamoto423 As long as you dont have to print it its fine for photography. You need to frame your shots better to not crop in post. And it works cz the photos are gonna land on social media afterall. Depends on purpose.
@@northparkfilms3045 The back screen is exactly the same. The grip is designed a slightly differently and seems a bit better on the FX3. Also, if you are not using the EVF (which I don't) then the entire package is a bit tighter IMO.
Another REALLY stupid thing are the annoying warnings about "A corresponding playback is required for this recording mode bla bla bla" when shooting in h.265 HEVC. Cool, Sony. I freaken get it. You don't need to show me this message EVERY time I switch modes or memory settings. Give me an option to turn those off forever.
I’m deciding between 3 Fx3s, 2 Fx6s, or the FX9 for updates at my work to pitch for the department. We’re needing a update, but also occasionally needing multiple camera angles at the same time for certain client work.
Just bought the FX3, I own an a7iii, fs5 and a6500. If you are at an internal position for a company that is not media or production focused I'd recommend the fx3 unless you really need SDI, internal ND, bigger battery options and more recording options. Both are great options and if someone else is paying go for it, but since the Fx6 is out of stock consider renting it and the FX3, with the same sensor and processor it's a more economical choice, especially with the expensive media for sony cfexpress cards.
Really?? That’s so odd! I had someone comment that they’re running 4k 120 in Hawaii without issue. What are you usually shooting when you’re getting the overheating?
The audio options were a nice feature for me, this isn't the classic "XLR add on option" for dslr's years ago. it's a better handle then the one on my FS5, more ergonomic, mounting points, lacking another cold shoe, but I'll take it over a small rig handle. The built in fan inspires confidence for long takes like I have to do for the documentary I'm DP'ing and the livestreams I produce. The cageless design makes it smaller than my A7iii with a cage, it's just missing that 3/8ths + 1/4 20 on the bottom for a video tripod plate. It's so dumb but the record button and dedicated video oriented buttons are nice. if you are worried about the lack of EVF look into getting an older used Zacuto viewfinder, I kinda hate how small my a7iii viewfinder is for video anyway and I don't use it. You could also rock that duvetyne over the head look like large format cameras require. IMO this is a great b or c cam on fx6 or 9 shoots, get your hands on one I was pleasantly surprised how much I like it. Also I love you lighting videos! Keep educating and inspiring!
If you get internal ND filters you cannot get the IBIS. I have the FX-6 with the Internal ND filters which is exceptional, however my footage is much shakier handheld on the FX-6 than the smoother handheld video from the FX-3 with IBIS. They both serve two different purposes. For run and gun smooth footage the FX-3. For tripod/stationary doc work or shoulder rig the FX-6.
I didn’t really notice a difference but I didn’t do any side by side testing. I thought that maybe using the audio interface unit would drain the battery more but it didn’t seem to affect it in any meaningful way.
The same or better! 2 difference are the evf on the A7siii and fan on the FX3 so they probably are extremely comparable. I haven't noticed a difference from shooting on the A7siii vs my FX3
I am thinking about buying the sony fx30. I cannot afford the fx3 or a7s iii. I do photos and videos. But mainly videos, so I would just buy the fx30. I think it's a great camera. But if I would have the money, I would buy the fx3 instead of the a7s iii.
Got the A7SIII when it first went on pre-order. Just picked up the FX3... Mostly because my SIII got fried and I got tired of waiting for Sony's Warranty Dept. to fix it... Liking it so far.
As one who shoots vertical photos on a tripod all the time, I suggest you could get an L bracket for your A7S III. Really Right Stuff, Kirk, and Smallrig all make L brackets designed to fit that camera. I shoot Canon and I just leave the L brackets on all the time.
I actually have an L bracket! But the issue is that most L brackets are designed to go to the left side, which is the same side as the flip out screen and all the connection doors and often gets in the way, even when you can swivel it or move it outwards a bit. They do work and I like what they do, but they also have a handful of annoyances that are easily fixed with that one 1/4” 20 screw on the grip.
@@dunnadidit Thanks! It needed something to replace the mic mount and add a spot for a forward monitor. We posted a video about it recently with download links etc..
But.. the fx3 shotgun mic holder only accommodates a Sony shotgun mic. I had to thicken my rode shotgun mic for it to fit. The top handle is useless imo.. Agree with the shutter angle. Fx3 being a cine camera should have it. Sony was lazy on this fx3.. Great review as always!
I feel like the buttons don't matter much since I've customized my entire camera setup anyway. And I actually appreciate the viewfinder and use it quite a bit. They should have made it an option on the FX3 sort of like they did on the new BlackMagic Pocket Cinema Camera. If I decide to buy a second camera then maybe I'll look at the FX3 instead of the A7S3. But really Sony should have just made one camera here. They're too similar. Hopefully, they'll consider that for their next iteration of this camera.
I actually disagree. I like the fact that they have two different “trims” based on what features you want more. But everyone seems to feel kinda different about that!
@@dunnadidit I hear you. We all have a different point of view based on our needs. I guess to me I feel like if they're gonna have two models they should have done more to separate the FX3. Like even a larger/better display. Or built-in ND or something else to make that cinema camera tag they put on it make more sense.
Had an A7s back in the day, went to Canon, back to Sony - with the A7c for stills and FX3 for video...Love the form factor on both, and yup - no EVF is better for gimbal use with the FX3, and the tally lights are great for self-shooting. Do wish it had shutter angle and perhaps a few other "cinema" camera features...But it's a great little cam after using the C200 for a few years. :)
Flexible audio inputs and multi channel adjustments on locstion for origination options are as vital to me as the imaging capture options; so, the FX3 will be my next purchase. Undoubtedly a cage addition will come along to gain a larger outboard viewfinder, on cage light, etc. And, an adjustable angles EV interface capture confirmation option would improve its set up flexibility. As it is, with my shooting and shot positioning, this is the camera I need for commercial industrial park locations clients.
If they could remove the top handle and price it the same as the a7siii I would get the fx3. Otherwise the EVF is the difference maker for me. For composition, photography, and being able to see exposure properly without a monitor…its really valuable IMO
The mount for vertical video without cage is really selling me on this. I have a cage on my A73 right now on my RS3 and it’s getting super heavy. Was debating between A7S3 and this FX3 so I think FX3 is the option for me as I’m in film school and trying to get clients for real estate. Gonna have to bite the bullet and pay the extra for this 😅
They arnt the same. As a video shooter I am in love with the fx3 and the small changes to the dial, etc... it’s the little things sometimes that make the difference.
I was disappointed in no internal ND filters. So really can't be called cinema line. That said I live in the Philippines which can be a very hot place so the internal fan is a must for me. So bought an FX6 and an A7s3 as my B cam. Will probably invest in an FX 3 later on. Obviously committed to the Sony Eco System now so looking forward to the A74 when it comes out 8n December I believe.
Haha Zack nailed it there… internal ND’s aren’t really a REQUIREMENT of a cinema camera, they’re just more common there than on photo cameras (are there photo cameras with Internal ND filters?) it would have been nice, but it doesn’t really mean the label is right or wrong.
It's a tough decision choosing between an EVF and XLR options but for me it's little things like the tally lights that are huge. Shooting with the A7sII on a ronin I've missed so many shots because I couldn't easily see if I was recording or not!
I only do filming. and for me a evf is a must have. so one has an evf and one doesn't. evf works brilliantly with a glidecam, smooth running shots, than hold up to eye for smooth handheld stationary shots with more focus. than agains thats a win for me if people sell there secondhand a7siii cheap
You finally got touch control in the menu like you wanted for so long! 😂 I think fx-3 is definitely a cinema camera! Minus internal nd’s it’s got everything you want
Also I would love to have that w/t toggle on my a6100 for the 18-105. I find every time I try to zoom with the lens switch it makes me extra shakey whereas your finger is always hanging out next to the shutter button
I like everything video about the FX3 which is why (sucks in breath) I shoot with a Sony NEX VG20. APSC Sensor, E mount, tally light, handle, flip-out screen, AMAZING stereo microphone (too good in fact for everyday use). Okay, it's a little old and not perfect but has almost all the features you like (sadly, no XLR) and a great value today. What if Sony made an FS3 with APSC sensor?! It would be a better form factor update of my VG20 and I think that would be cool.
I think both are great. I have used the A7Siii a lot now. I do however want to make my camera a back up, and switch to the Fx3. I like the small differences, and of course I will be buying the Tilta cage for it right away 😉
I wish the XLR is built into the body, the top handle is a little wonky. It definitely needs the built-in ND filter and maybe the A7RV screen. I think that would be enough for me.
@@dunnadidit I agree, but if we are going to use it with the handle anyway, instead of making it wonky and fragile, might as well build it in the body altogether. Might even make the whole real estate of the entire rig smaller. but others might have different use case so yeahs.
I went with FX-3 over the A7SIII because my workflow demands professional XLR audio for corporate video. Yes, I could’ve purchased the A7SIII with the XLR-K3M but it would’ve cost me $200 more for an add on attachment that is not as sturdy as the audio adapter handle for the FX-3. Plus the cooling fan is insurance for me when we have 8 -10 hour shoots.
I have the A7siii and the FX3. I bought the A7siii in Dec 2021 on Craigslist, at a little bit of a markup from the new price actually, because it was so back-ordered from the chip shortage! I sold my A7sii because I had major overheating issues, not very professional to stick your camera in the fridge in the middle of a shoot. Since I was used to the A7sii body this was an easy transition. I have the Sony ECM-B1M shotgun mic that goes on the hot shoe and it provides really clear sound, great backup for the XLR inputs on the Fx3 if I have a lav mic and an XLR input shotgun on that cam. Then just a few months ago I sold my FS7mii and got the Fx3. Now both my cameras match better in post, the A7siii and the Fs7mii were not matching well. I dig the top handle with the XLR inputs, and that you can mount it vertically on a tripod quite easily. Also, as a 5 foot 5 135 pound gal, the Fs7mii was WAY heavier and any weight I can cut off my kit is really important to me. They both have awesome autofocus via the touch screen which is amazing, and really quite idiot-proof, no excuses for out of focus shots! Being able to really pump up the ISO without getting much grain is awesome. They work together really well and I would highly recommend either of them, or both!
The fans maybe handy if you film in hot locations. I do a bunch of filming in very sunny beaches and mountains and there are times my cameras can get really hot!
really kills me there is no double mounting point on the bottom so the camera doesn't loosen over time on its mount. also would have been awesome to see the audio recorder as a direct hot shoe attachment instead of having that dinky handle always there.
I think they could have kept everything the same and swapped out the IBIS for Variable ND. This way it's more deserving of the CINEMA Badge and have even better battery life. IMO
@@dunnadidit the FX6 doesn't have IBIS * ( gyro stabilization ) Also some lenses still have OSS. Plus it would differentiate the two cameras. Great Video BTW
@@dunnadidit nice - you like the 35mm for talking heads? I’ve seen people recommending the 24mm, but not sure myself. I kind of like the 35mm focal length.
Yeah I really like a slightly less “youtubey” kinda look and I find that means staying a bit tighter. 24 isn’t so bad, 16 is youtubey as all hell haha. 35 feels like a nice place. If it wasn’t inconvenient and if I didn’t have a small room, I’d probably go 55 more often
Really good video, man! I discovered your channel recently and love it! Really enjoying it and I'm learning more things about Sony! I've been shooting with the A7III for 1 year now and these videos are great to find out more info about the cameras from experienced shooters! Thanks
Cool comparison....I like the size of that thing and the dials missing do not bother me either. I Do like the EVF for photography and I shoot mostly video and some photography so I wanted that EVF. If the price was the same I would maybe consider it, but with my EDU discount and the price difference I couldn't justify getting the FX3. I wanted to EVF anyway so that made my choice, but dang I love the size of the FX3.
i know i only tested (my friend's not mine) FX3 a few days and i agree with you that Power Button are pain in the a** on shutter button-ish i remember almost fried my camera 2 days ago because my A6400 suddenly turn on in my bag!! also that record light tho!! i only realize yesterday that A6000 series and A7 record light are on bottom and its quite small (because i accidentally slipped on set lol)
Yessss!!! I always accidentally turn on my a7 series cameras in my bag, and because I use the IR remote, they don’t automatically sleep. So when I go to grab them, they’re dead! That light on the bottom is actually a card write/read light.
Basically to me if you always use the xlr audio, then buy the fx3. If you only use the 3.5mm audio input, then just buy a7sIII with a cage and a top handle.

Yes this is why the fx6 has internal nds but no ibis. It uses gyro data reel steady to stabilize footage
I’m an a7S III person. Really like that it has an EVF for when I’m taking photos. FX3 really should have shutter angle and waveform to be called a cinema camera. In regards to internal nd, from what I have read you can have either internal nd or ibis, not both. Why? Science.
Stupid science always getting in the way
@@dunnadidit For now!
The little Sony ZV-1 has both, and only £600!
The zv1 doesn’t have sensor shift stabilization
Nice! Sounds like you’ve got a solid game plan!
Which did you get
@@jaymills1720 ah well I rented a Canon r5 and the wife and I took so many pictures and videos we went with the Canon instead!😆
Considering fx3 because a7siii is out of stock and tired of waiting
What Lens have POWER ZOOM enabled??????? An Absolute Must for my type of cinematography (Toy Radio Controlled Model Planes)
The 24-105 f4 has it for sure. Then I think some of the cinema lenses.
I like the A7s iii because it’s a good balance of photography and filmmaking 👌
I am upgrading from my a6600 to one of these two.. seems like the fx3 is a no brainer
Simple.
No doubt!
Got both and bought another FX3… I will continue to say this… Same horse power under the hood but the FX3 is a joy to shoot with, at least in my opinion that’s why I bought another one and trust me I did buy the a7IV to work as a C cam and returned it to buy that FX3.
BRO... NICE! that was a very simple and easy way to describe the benefits of fewer mps to those that are trying to learn. Kudos, my friend. 🤙😎🤙
Cheers! Thanks for watching!
Fortunately,I had both of them! Literally there’s lot of difference between them Not in quality that much but in purpose 🔥 As far as I’m concerned, Fx3 is worth in-terms of technical side …
If you guys are looking for photography & videography at the semi professional level. Photographer’s best choose ever.
You can do both at high quality footage for sure…
If you are focusing more flimic
like videos with more advanced
settings ( SLR inputs ,colour tone ,
higher frame rate , frame free camera ,
portable, build quality, weather sealed,
Cooling fan, waterproof….) and also like to take photographs ,fx3 is your camera.
12mp of Sony A7siii is not for photography,.
Had the a7siii since October 2020. Love it! I think I’d prefer another one to the FX3. But thanks for the overview and your experience.
I have both the A7sIII and the FX3. I find myself reaching for the FX3 almost every time.
Agreed
Wow wish I was you man😩 I still use the canon 600D💔😩.
Same here - not exactly sure why - but it’s true!
Would love to know why? Is the grip as thick as the a7siii? Is the back screen as good as the a7siii?
Ooh that’s a tough one! Do you go with the big mama or multiple little little… mamas
@@dunnadidit , Right! I feel I know what we’re needing though for where I hope we’re headed, but we’ll see what the Company President says haha.
Haha 😂
Just bought the FX3, I own an a7iii, fs5 and a6500. If you are at an internal position for a company that is not media or production focused I'd recommend the fx3 unless you really need SDI, internal ND, bigger battery options and more recording options. Both are great options and if someone else is paying go for it, but since the Fx6 is out of stock consider renting it and the FX3, with the same sensor and processor it's a more economical choice, especially with the expensive media for sony cfexpress cards.
BIG Dunna. Your channel deserve more followers
🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻
so there's no 4:3 full sensor read out mode? so you don't have to mount the camera sideways for social media?
Nope. Unfortunately not
The A7SIII does overheat quite often IMO so the FX3 would be a great choice for me. But I do like the EVF - I often use it actually.
Really?? That’s so odd! I had someone comment that they’re running 4k 120 in Hawaii without issue. What are you usually shooting when you’re getting the overheating?
After how long?
@@dunnadidit is that for surf videography?
And for fail save if the screen broken 😉
If you get internal ND filters you cannot get the IBIS. I have the FX-6 with the Internal ND filters which is exceptional, however my footage is much shakier handheld on the FX-6 than the smoother handheld video from the FX-3 with IBIS. They both serve two different purposes. For run and gun smooth footage the FX-3. For tripod/stationary doc work or shoulder rig the FX-6.
How do you find battery life on the FX3 vs the A7S3??
oddly, I actually find it better.
I didn’t really notice a difference but I didn’t do any side by side testing. I thought that maybe using the audio interface unit would drain the battery more but it didn’t seem to affect it in any meaningful way.
@@dunnadidit ...And there's my answer! 😂
The same or better! 2 difference are the evf on the A7siii and fan on the FX3 so they probably are extremely comparable. I haven't noticed a difference from shooting on the A7siii vs my FX3
Great Content. if you were to purchase a camera today, would you buy the fx3 of the a7s3 for documentary/ vlog content.
I am thinking about buying the sony fx30. I cannot afford the fx3 or a7s iii. I do photos and videos. But mainly videos, so I would just buy the fx30. I think it's a great camera. But if I would have the money, I would buy the fx3 instead of the a7s iii.
It would be awesome if the FX3 zoom button could be programed to control a manual focus motor of some sort.
Great video Dunna! Stoked that I picked up the Fx3
Got the A7SIII when it first went on pre-order. Just picked up the FX3... Mostly because my SIII got fried and I got tired of waiting for Sony's Warranty Dept. to fix it... Liking it so far.
Ooh no! You’re poor a7siii! Good excuse to try the fx3 tho
Super annoying timing that they’d wait 5 years to release the A7SIII and then right away release the FX3. Wtf Sony
Haha I know right!
Super annoying! That’s right … it’s like the S is not that especial anymore 😂
Chiming in from Hawaii… no heat issues shooting all day in 4K/60 on the A7s3.
Aloha! Thanks for the input!
We went with the FX3 as well, and love it! We also built a 3d printed top handle mod that helps with monitor mounting.
Great video as always🤘
Ooh cool! That sounds like a great idea!
@@dunnadidit Thanks! It needed something to replace the mic mount and add a spot for a forward monitor. We posted a video about it recently with download links etc..
The lack of built-in ND is what turns me away from the fx3. I would trade away the IBIS for the built-in ND for sure.
But.. the fx3 shotgun mic holder only accommodates a Sony shotgun mic. I had to thicken my rode shotgun mic for it to fit. The top handle is useless imo..
Agree with the shutter angle. Fx3 being a cine camera should have it. Sony was lazy on this fx3..
Great review as always!
Ill go for fx3 its one stop camera period
Nice!!
I was looking into the same camera combo. You recommend it vs the A7IV?
Still love my A7 Siii, but don't mind to give FX3 a try if budget allow.
The lack of EVF kills the FX3 for me.. I do want that internal fan though.. why can’t I have both. (Kicks rocks)
I really love my a7s iii, but if anything happens to it I’m for sure getting an fx3
Nice!
Are they same Mount
@@cj7073 yes they are
Flexible audio inputs and multi channel adjustments on locstion for origination options are as vital to me as the imaging capture options; so, the FX3 will be my next purchase.
Gonna have to bite the bullet and pay the extra for this 😅
Great explanation. ND is there in really small Sony cameras, but they will leave it for more expensive cams.
Great breakdown! Really helping me make the best choice for what I’m planning on doing
Would be great to have bigger screens on Sony cameras just like BlackMagic cameras, and of course.. ND filters... come on Sony..
They arnt the same. As a video shooter I am in love with the fx3 and the small changes to the dial, etc... it’s the little things sometimes that make the difference.
Agreed!
I am still looking to upgrade to one of these too, leaning more at the Fx3 for what I do. Great review. thanks.
Nice!!
If you were to buy a new Sony camera for video/documentary work, would you choose the a7siii of fx3
Ooh fun! You have the inside scoop on the a74??
@@dunnadidit only the rumour mill. Suggesting September. Its long over due so looking forward to seeing its specs versus cost.
I’m excited for that one for sure!!
Haha Zack nailed it there… internal ND’s aren’t really a REQUIREMENT of a cinema camera, they’re just more common there than on photo cameras (are there photo cameras with Internal ND filters?) it would have been nice, but it doesn’t really mean the label is right or wrong.
@@dunnadidit Z6 has internal ND but no microphone jack.
There are major failings on both.
The only thing I really would like my s3 to have from the fx3 is the zoom rocker.
Nice video but i will NEVER use vertical video. If i want the smartphone look i use one.
Thanks! And Okay 🤷🏻♂️
I got the FX3 and quite happy. I hope they make firmware updates to make it have more cinema settings and stand out from the a7sIII
That would definitely be nice!
I am on oppsite site. I want that for a7siii
It's a tough decision choosing between an EVF and XLR options but for me it's little things like the tally lights that are huge. Shooting with the A7sII on a ronin I've missed so many shots because I couldn't easily see if I was recording or not!
You can turn on a red outline on the display to show when you're recording, works like a charm!
Nice! You don’t hear of video shooters using the evf too often!
You use a EVF while running with a glidecam??? How in the world??? LOL. You'd end up with a black eye one would think haha
Haha that’s what I thought too.
@@ScarmackProductions not while running, I run with the glideecam. and than when I am stationary pull it up to my eye for more stable handheld look
I need a sony Fx3 for my trips around the world. Need to update my sony a7iii. Great review mate👊🏻🥂
I’ve been loving it for vlogging type stuff too! The smaller footprint is great!
Great, much thanks for the detailed comparison and evaluation!
My next step is finding a comparison between FX3 and FX6...
That would have been cool. I can't think of where they would put it in such a tiny body haha.
@@dunnadidit I agree, but if we are going to use it with the handle anyway, instead of making it wonky and fragile, might as well build it in the body altogether. Might even make the whole real estate of the entire rig smaller. but others might have different use case so yeahs.
Yeah tough to knownhey
Dunna always with the fire
I do my best!
Thanks for your input!
Can you please make a full video of Canva to show how you use it and make your intro or thumbnail please please
Thanks for the suggestion! I’ll keep that in mind!!
@@dunnadidit thank you have a nice day

Nice!!
Great vid Dunna!
Thank you!!
Do u use s-logs at night?
Hey.. Nice video 😉.. Little tip for your handle to fit a shotgun mic. You have to buy a Sony microphone spacer and.. It's done !
See ya 😎
The fans maybe handy if you film in hot locations. I do a bunch of filming in very sunny beaches and mountains and there are times my cameras can get really hot!
really kills me there is no double mounting point on the bottom so the camera doesn't loosen over time on its mount. also would have been awesome to see the audio recorder as a direct hot shoe attachment instead of having that dinky handle always there.
I think they could have kept everything the same and swapped out the IBIS for Variable ND. This way it's more deserving of the CINEMA Badge and have even better battery life. IMO
Oooh jeez. I dunno if I’d wanna lose my ibis tho. But that could have been an option. That certainly would have made them more different
@@dunnadidit the FX6 doesn't have IBIS * ( gyro stabilization ) Also some lenses still have OSS. Plus it would differentiate the two cameras. Great Video BTW
Yeah for real, I just really like IBIS for what I shoot. And especially with the tiny camera body it’s nice to have the extra stabilization.
Agreed! Internal ND’s are definitely a “Cinema” feature. 👍
the no shutter angle thing is weird for sure - seems so simple, i bet it will be in a firmware update like you said
Fingers crossed! 🤞🏼
Hey, Dunna. What lens are you using these days on the Sony A7S III/FX3 for these talking-head style shots?
Sony 16-35 f2.8 GM or Sony 35mm f1.8 or Sony zeiss 55mm f1.8 mostly. That’s in order of most used to least I think.
Thanks
Glad to hear it was helpful Jake!
I have a a7sii and was thinking of just going one generation up but man now I want a fx3
just got my a7siii as you know lol but holy, this thing is amazing. I use the evf more than i thought i would too.
Well it sounds like you’ve got the right one then if you’re an evf person!
A key difference for me would be which one is weather sealed. The XLR handle isn't.
Fantastic review Dunna! I am considering to get one of these 2. Just wondering video quality wise are they basically the same ?
They have the exact same sensor so the video quality should be exactly the same!
I just watched movie called The Creator which was filmed on a FX3, incredible that a prosumer camera can capture Hollywood quality content
i know i only tested (my friend's not mine) FX3 a few days
and i agree with you that Power Button are pain in the a** on shutter button-ish
i remember almost fried my camera 2 days ago because my A6400 suddenly turn on in my bag!!
also that record light tho!!
i only realize yesterday that A6000 series and A7 record light are on bottom and its quite small (because i accidentally slipped on set lol)
What about overheating at 120 or 240fps with proxy files simultaneously?
