- It’s finally here! Over the past few weeks, we became PART OF THE BAND with Matty Healy and the 1975 to make a Special Film of a pod - what many are calling the “Being Funny In A Foreign Language” of podcast episodes! Here’s a 3 hour epic where we hang out in NYC, hit The Couch, then join the band on stage in Pennsylvania during production rehearsals of their new Spielberg-level live show, go to Madison Square Garden right before doors open, and then end at our debaucherous, bombastic afterparty collaboration, The 197Fionized! This episode also features a guest appearance from legendary light, stage, and conceptual designer Tobias Rylander, footage from Jordan Curtis Hughes, party footage from Jason Banker, and never-before heard ambient music from the 1975 drummer and producer mastermind you already know and love George Daniel!
Needless to say, we go the fuck in as always about the New York scene and music being back, their new show The 1975 At Their Very Best, Rock Lititz, using Brad Troemelian language, Vincent Gallo, unreleased art, cold pods, no famous music journalists, starting your own label, the audience and performer being just as important, rave democratizing the musical experience, Twitter, the lyrics of “Love It If We Made It”, changing your opinion in real time, growing up with his family in the tabloids, “Everybody Hurts” by REM, indie masculinity, uniforms, Kanye, Michael Jackson, people being more important and more interesting than art, Refused, ‘the death of the album’ being a farce, infinite newness vs. finite newness, Sophie, pop culture life forms, your instinct being your art, Gregory Crewdson, the Emo House, being whitepilled, Healian style, and of course- MUCH MORE!
A NEW SPECIAL FILM STARRING MATTY HEALY OF THE 1975!!!
INSANE HEAT THAT IS NOT TO BE MISSED.
**SPECIAL SHOUTS TO JORDAN HUGHES FOR HIS TIRELESS WORK ON THIS AND TO JASON BANKER FOR THE 197FIONIZED OUTRO**
ALSO FEATURING LEGENDARY LIGHT, STAGE, AND CONCEPTUAL DESIGNER TOBIAS RYLANDER!
BIG FUCKIN SHOUTS!!!

guess i’m busy tonight
Me too this seems to have come from nowhere I can’t wait to watch this
Wish people who watch and listen to things like this rather than make a decision about Matty rather than rumours, hearsay or things taken out of context. So much more to him than people realise. Throughly enjoyed this
The best, most comprehensive Matty Healy interview. Truly a Special Film. Insane heat. fire emoji.
😊
I agree
These types of long form conversations really do perpetuate the parasocial relationships that many online viewers are increasingly falling victim to because this way of communicating ideas initiates a response of “I want these people to know that I agree with them,” but with no outlet to say that besides in a forum of other public conversations. All that to say- cheers, the time given to listen was worth it.
Take a shot every time Matty says “Art” 😂
good idea :)
Lol
passed out already so I lost count LOL
Great idea
“Aht”
Love Matty...he is such an amazing, intelligent, profound, unique, talented artist. So down to earth, open, and real. I have so much respect and admiration for him. More people should watch this interview
I can see this becoming my main go to comfort watch
last week i saw the 75s 10 year anniversary show at reading which genuinely has changed my life, its quite a strange idea that im 17 now enjoying an album other 17 year olds enjoyed a decade ago. i was waiting next to someone at reading, it was their tenth time seeing the 75 and they have followed matty since the beginning, but just that sense of community within a fanbase brought me such solace, i felt like in a decade i will look back and wonder what 17 year olds now are consuming, listening to, what festivals are relevant. time is so bittersweet but i hope i can be that person in 10 years and just be able to say that everything does work out.
Everything does work out. ❤
I almost died laughing at the thought of David Byrne being dragged into a bush and just going "uh oh"
I'm so glad you made this available to all. I think there are some really important conversations being had here, and there's no excuse beyond wilful ignorance not to listen and blindly criticise. Thanks guys for the intelligent discussions (also The Life were fucking awesome at Finsbury Park!)
Now this is mega. So cool seeing you guys sitting at the couch on the stage which entertained so many of us at Finsbury Park!
The hardest intro to anything I’ve ever seen. How phenomenal
Matty's interviews are always so interesting and insightful. He is brilliant, I love his mind, tho I often feel ignorant when he uses big words such as "solipsistic" and I don't understand the meaning of them
This so wonderful! Took me a bit to get through it because I was at Outside Lands watching The 1975 perform - but there are so many great points, arguments, counters, etc here. This is a room I wish I could have been in just to ask some of the questions or finish the points you started but did not finish ha! You were in flow and some thoughts were left and I was line NO FINISH THAT ha! LOVED LOVED LOVED this and will definitely rewatch. I like long form content - but I LOVE the right kind of long form content such as this. Modern Philosophers woot!
Oh My God, 3 hours of my beloved Matty, guys, you are incredible, thank you so much for this one, I love you! p.s. Matty, I love you the most
Thank you guys, very cool!
the way matty gulps the elf bar never exhaling just letting the smoke rise and fill in his lungs with resin to get the most buzz so inspirational
Takes one to know one 😂 same !
40:05 paused to look up solipsistic… listening to him always improves my vocabulary 😎
@ssalas7374 Same 😂
He’s like the Jeremy Strong of music
@@jjxshua make sense dramaturgically
This is such a great interview!! I could listen to Matty talk for hours
haha, love the use of Billy Walsh-soundbites in the intro. Great interview also
Great interview! It was cool to learn more about the set. I’m an American attending uni in London so I was a bit bummed to see all the US dates I can’t go to but I’m glad to hear they are coming back to UK!
Thank u Matty very cool
“D’ya know wot I meeen?”
love the conversation boys.
Matty with an elfbar just feels so wrong
I love this man so much
Insane heat !
its so interesting as a 18 yr old girl hearing matty talk about the culture today with social media n stuff. i was j talking to my parents the other day about how thankful i am to have grown up in probably the last generation where phones and ipads didnt consume our lives. i had a childhood (from glasgow, grew up in florida…. crazy differences ik) that was fun and pure and nostalgic. we played in the forest in my backyard all day, we wrote with chalk, we got dirty, we played MANHUNT, we blew bubbles, we made crappy music videos on imovie, and we just got to grow up. NOWWWW? you cant do that anymore, kids don’t get that authentic childhood they should be getting. i see it all the time, little children are 5 years old and have a higher screen time than me. that is wack. that is weird. they should be rolling on the ground or riding a bike not watching tiktoks all day. i’m not saying this to be that old school bitch, cus trust me i go on my phone and i think theres a slight level of purpose in it, but i do see the immense amount of harm and damage it’s doing and i dont think we should keep ignoring that. i just feel bad for them because it was hard enough for me to grow up and try and escape the world thats so easy to fall into that is comparing myself to other girls, letting ppl online get to me, and all those things but i can thankfully say that i did good and i allowed myself to not get changed by something digital. my current friend group and i dont even need our phones when we hang out, where as others need them cus they forget how to talk face to face anymore and it’s embarrassing and sad. anyways, thats my hot take on social media today. im thankful i didnt let myself get emerged too much into the current pop culture world and ive been able to enjoy all the cultures of previous decades thru things like music and just talking to people that were alive then while also navigating and finding the good parts of the current culture. ok bye
Thank you so much
Thank you!!!!
nothing EVER made me has happy as the early november shout out, ace is ace
Dyslexically funky 😂
I love the irony that the staircase remained a staircase to nowhere - I don't remember it going anywhere when I saw the show in Newcastle!
Matty is intelligent and savvy. I hope the 1975 continue to produce their music for years to come.
Matty's really interesting i like him lots
this is fucking sick ... get matty back for pt 2
George, I beg, release these tracks!
Wow. Thank you
It’s 12:24am… wow the intro… the instrumentals ❤

Very good
Legendary
I'm pretty sure Matty was one of those kids that used to patiently wait for THAT video to record it on vhs at 2am. Like me🥲

I feel like the only loser who paid for the sub to watch this MONTHS ago 😂😂😂 still a fun convo to watch.

The Dare is the shining lighting of the NY music scene...? Ok.

Seeing him with a vape feels so wrong 😅and is that Coke zero? Fucking hell he's a changed man 🤣❤

is this the guy from the life in Finsbury Park? was a killer band
the fact that we get no cutaways to the hosts is pretty strange
guess who's not sleeping tonight ☝🏼😀
Okay, here we go
Very insightful if you’re into being intentional with your art 🤍
I love ratty's perspective

Any chance of being able to get that outro available anywhere? 👀
this video is important
Yes
Cool interview. May i suggest one more camera-angle, either of the subject or the hosts. Would give it some extra movement and relay more of the space.
I really wanna know what that ambience at the start was
clever guy❤
fucking finally
❤
just started this and I know for a fact I'm about to be insufferable
ugh, Japanese House 🖤🖤🖤
He's wise
the word pretentious comes to mind after watching this...more so to Ion than Healey

Damn this shits serious
🧡🧡🧡
Noel Gallagher recently described the 1975 as a shit band.
But he also spent the first 50 years of his life thinking the
beach boys were shit. Go figure.
what is the crumps piece, they're talking about?
How many times can he say 'd'ya know wot I mean'
Ask Liam Gallagher
when was this recorded, does anyone know?
when was this please?

Hello from Petersfield in South England they are talking about
‘Brad Troemel’ ❤️
@@seanmartin4062oh shit, Peef Massive!
The floor of MSG at the end appears to be a standard concrete floor. The show was in Nov/Dec so the ICE for the Rangers has to be there (The story is they only take the ice up during the hockey season is for the Dog Show because dogs can smell it and they all dig at the fake grass trying to get to it). They dont put a concrete floor over the ice. Anyone know how this works?
I love this group and Marty Healy, however I wish he/they didn’t smoke so freely on stage, etc. This comes from an elderly fan who was diagnosed with stage 3 lung cancer in Dec. 2023. I don’t want the same outcome for you multi-talented musicians who create the most amazing music.
19:49 what full songs. Anyone please can give me an explanation (I'm Korean) Really curious but can't understand. Thank u
The boy talking to Matty was suggesting that listening to the whole of a song , rather than a clip would be weird. Probably an effect of tiktok
@@wannacuppa7415 thanksss 😉
