My old girlfriend parrot hated me to start with, then I secretly started bringing treats for her, when we broke up she gave me the parrot as she loved me. Samantha is still with me twenty years later lol 🥰😍
Somethings are meant to be. You were destined to have a close relationship with a parrot. Majority of us have had relationships with dogs and cats. You're special, so you got a parrot. Accounts like this let me know nothing is by chance. Beautiful story.
That is hilarious 😂
Wow! I wasn't expecting that ending, lol!
Amazing!
Good pets are generally better than humans. Though not always.
The fact that the parrot is free to fly away and come back is truly amazing he really Loves his family 😍🥰
Yes. It’s something we discuss a lot about on our channel, free flight for macaws IS possible, and is BEAUTIFUL
It has nothing to do with love. It's just a lot and a lot and a lot of training 🤣 I'm currently flight training 2 parrots and the amount of work you need to put in to enable thrm to free fly is astronomical. But so, so worth it in the end :)
Freedom as William Wallace shouted
same thing i was wondering, im happy they don't cut the wings and allow the parrot to fly but i can imagine how much training is involved to get them to come back
@@codexone2194 the training is for you to ensure they return to you, but birds can willingly return to you if they truly trust and more importantly feel safe with you

That is cute. When she flys the dog watches her and runs along with her.
It is so beautiful to watch
@@australianwoman9696 but she'd never hurt the dog, nor the dog her.
Yes when I saw that my ❤️, well you know.
oooh i knooow !!!! my heart melted at that moment !! especially seeing birds, they do NOT give bellies unless they are so relaxed even many relaxed chill birds have limits and dont like to be belly up as that is such a vulnerable position, so that shows the level oft rust and the bond they both have
If Shelby ever learns to say "walkies" and "treats" they're gonna have an interesting week XD
Haha! It’s the fact that shadow responds to “shall we go for a fly?!” 😂😂
He'd be expecting her to get that leash!

Oh brilliant thanks for that Barbara
I love that they haven't clipped the bird's wings and she can fly outside!
I was thinking the same thing. Birds are meant to fly and it's always upsetting to see birds kept in cages
We’re very much against wing clipping and instead promote recall training in birds! We have loved every second of allowing Shelby the freedom of flight
@@ShelbyTheMacaw That's wonderful you trained Shelby to come back. I was afraid he would fly away! 🦜
@@ShelbyTheMacaw Just watch out for those sneaky falcons. ;)
I think it's even more incredible that Shelby has such a bond and trust. I would be so, so nervous letting my parrot fly around outside. It's awesome
It’s nice to see the parrot flying out and about.
Thank you! Shelby is free flight trained
Do you have eagles or hawks there? Would they be a danger? I really enjoyed your beautiful bird and wonderful dog. 😁
I was thinking the very same thing, it's brilliant to see💖
Its so refreshing to see .
I was thinking the exact same thing, I have a little pacific parrotlette and I wish I could let her out like this but I don't think she would come back unfortunately and I wouldn't want to put her in danger.
The moment I saw the parrot flying outside, playing tag with the dog...I sat right up straight and my mouth dropped. KUDOS to this wonderful couple who cherishes their animals, to the free bird who loves to stay home and, of course, to the pup who's having the time of his life with a best friend who FLIES!!!

Haha yes. Our last video shows the first time she rolled onto her back and it’s actually a sign of complete trust and love!
I always say birds aren't meant to be pets. They're suppose to be outside and fly around, but this one does go outside and gets to fly around and comes back so it's all good. It's pretty great actually.
There's actually a lot of parrot owners who now don't clip their bird's wings, and will let them fly outside (they train for a long time for recall training of course) It's growing more popular!
Thank you! Comments like this are why we continue to spread awareness of the dangers of clipping and try to educate people on training their birds to recall.
@@phoebezhang1190 you’re so right. It’s getting more and more popular!
exactly my thought!
My macaw also gets outside time, she however doesn't really seem to like flying. Nothing wrong with her, she just prefers to stay on the ground 🤷
It's so nice to see people letting their pet birds fly. So much more happiness and trust.

@David Lee I fully agree with you, human's nature is destructive.
I love that they let the parrot fly around instead of keeping her in a cage all day.
My old neighbor had a parrot and he let it fly free and it chewed the tops of the door off and a lot of the walls of the room. So you really have to be careful with that. They can do a lot of damage to your home.
I've never seen a pet bird who's allowed outside to fly around. Marvelous! Birds are meant to fly!
So true. It kills me to see birds caged just so we can look at them when we want to. Humans are so thoughtless.
We share so so many videos on our channel of Shelby in free flight and the beauty of allowing pet birds to fly. We hope it becomes the norm
@@sunnydaze2359 so true. Heart breaking
It’s called free flying. A lot of people do it especially with the larger parrots like Macaws. In Sydney there’s a family that has a flock of blue and gold Macaws and although they hang out at the house they’re free to just fly around wherever they want.
In the inner city too, but they live near an enormous park.
The wild instincts of most birds kick in when they are allowed outside. They just kind of forget that they have a home already. Animals like parrots are a bit different due to their unusually high intelligence. But it's very rare to pull it off with a bird like a parakeet.
That she flies and he runs along with her is absolutely stunning and amazing. Love this!!
Thank you so much. 💜
I wish all the world could just be Shelbys and Shadows. ❤️🎁🤗

For anyone thinking they’d love a parrot, they can live 40/50 years

I love the fact that their bird is allowed to fly outside!!! They both have a great life!!
Thank you so much. Comments like this are why we do what we do ❤️
@@ShelbyTheMacaw You guys are amazing people!! 🙏🙌
@@ShelbyTheMacaw I'm also amazed to see that you let her fly free, as she's supposed to. But is there a specific reason you don't get a second one? I mean it's lovely to see how well she gets along with you and the dog, but after all these are animals that usually live in big swarms and have one partner for life. She's probably not unhappy the way she lives now, but maybe you could get her the best life possible by allowing her to have a partner - one with feathers. I don't think that humans or dogs could replace that partnership, especially considering how much longer a parrot lives than a dog. Like I said, I do think you are already providing a good life for her, but maybe there is room for improvement. I wish all the best for you and your furry and feathery friends🤗.
@@j051eb8 this is the plan but the timing and circumstances need to be just so, so as not to affect Shelby negatively (we can’t assume she will just get on with any old bird, she could hate it) but also so as not to impact the family negatively in any way. Pairs of birds isn’t necessarily essential but we would like another soon
@@ShelbyTheMacaw thank you for the answer, I hope you will be able to find her a new friend that fits right into your family, good luck

Animals can teach us to be better🌈
People believe the non-stop propaganda being pushed on them. That's what creates the anger we are currently dealing with. If they'd do their own research, people would get along and realize, those in power are the enemy to us all.

Love this!! Especially them flying snd running together
What's with all the down thumbs, this just made me really happy seeing them Together!
I dont think it's good to encourage this to public at large, as many parrots get fatally injured by dogs too close, even if unintentional bite
Adorable
Some of those still photos were just extraordinary. What a pair!
Hey Laura
What I love the most if the fact that the bird has his wings intact and the dog is off leash. Meaning they love their human parents 💗
The sad thing is that the parrots lives for decades (40-80 years ) while the dogs for 15-16 years.
That’s why their time together has so much meaning, though. Everything is fleeting, but it’s our memories that make it matter.
It's only sad that doggos don't live longer.
Yes this is very true. We did a video about how thing may turn out for Shelby and shadow on our channel

It is never ok to keep a single bird. Birds need a bird partner of the same kind. When they're young it's very cute, but once they reach maturity it's very frustrating for them. In the best scenario they become neurotic and clingy, or they become sexual frustrated and aggressive. Either way this is no life for an animal that can live for decades.
Thank you. Firstly, i dont think it's good to encourage this irresponsible behaviour to public at large with dog too close, even if unintentional bite. As parrots get fatally injured by such incidents. It is the parrot, whose life is being risked here. I got an Amazon from a neighbor who passed away. I have had it for 14 years. He had it for 8. I dont know it's history. I would never buy parrots. I dont want to support nest thieves and breeding for a life of captivity. The amazon is happy as i give it liberty and it flies. But i do need to find some parrot friends, as it's just me. We have bonded. It flew away and came back. But risky when i am outside in yard or balcony a little bit, which it enjoys. I do need to find and follow a flock down south perhaps.
Try letting the parrot ride on the dogs back. Have They done that yet?
We have tried but Shelby is having none of it. She did land on his back once out on a walk and stayed there for about 1 second lol

Bird
Bird is the word...
They did not clip the parrots wings, that is just beautiful. 🤗
My favorite Dodo videos are about the “odd couple” friendships. It always makes we smile and all is well in the moment.
I'm going to be blunt and honest.
Mixing fur and feathers is not okay.
You may think it's cute, but it's unsafe, and incredibly irresponsible.
Mammalian saliva is toxic to parrots, a dog is a predator, and you think it's cute and that they're friends - but I've heard it all before, they're "friends" until instinct kicks in.
I have seen parrots with beaks ripped off, wings ripped open, feathers pulled out, bones broken, and worse still, DEAD, becuase of irresponsible owners allowing their dogs to mix with their parrots, and they all said the same thing "my dog/cat is fine with my bird, they're friends"
If you truly love your bird. Please do not try this at home. Thanks.
Thank you for sensible comment. I totally agree. Encouraging irresponsible behaviour to public at large, and as u mentioned many parrots fatally injured by dogs too close, even if unintentional bite. Also, thank you for letting me know about mammalian saliva. I will not chew up bread for my Amazon again!
@@raminkhajavi9513 this is what Google says about mammalian saliva:
Given that humans are mammals, the general consensus is that mammalian saliva potentially contains bacteria which may cause sepsis in the avian bloodstream. As such, most veterinarians and avian websites caution against allowing one's pet birds to come in contact with mammalian saliva and reference it as being toxic.
It is a small risk with human saliva, but still the risk is there.
@@piercedangel1623 i appr8 da info! And your sensibility!
The Shelby macaw channel promotes proper macaw care yet, a dog is such a danger not only because of there size but because there saliva is highly toxic to birds. They are so beautiful together however it will only take 1 slip up for things to turn sour. I hope this never happens but the risk is there.
People get so weird when anyone points out how stuff like this isn't cute, it's neglect. That first clip is just awful.
I cant express just how much I love this video. I grew up and my grandpa had a Rottweiler named grizz and a Macaw named Mengo this just brought back so many memories. I've never said thank you for a video before but thank you for this one💯
Really great to see a free unkliped bird flying free and happy to return .Your good folks.
Blue macaws are actually a vulnerable species, people should not be buying them (or any other bird that is, they aren't supposed to be locked up for your pleasure)
Wow, I don't think I have seen so many falsehoods in a single sentence but let's deconstruct them. Lie 1; B&G macaws are a vulernable speces, while in reality they are classified as 'least concern'. Lie 2; Implication that a pet bird has an effect on the wild population, while in reality any animal on the CITES registration must be bred in captivity and has the relevant paperwork (in a civilized country) and Falsehood 3; you imply that many folks keep them locked up for their pleasure while in reality many people have free-flying uncaged birds.

A Very special relationship between all of you, together . I judge trust with a animal when they show their vulnerability by offering their unpretected bellies as a way of communicating that we're cool with one another. Different animals have different methods and different part's to show us. Always wise to know these important little indicators around animals , pet's and wildlife alike
