- I can't believe we made another novel discovery in our newly bought ant forest! In this episode, we fortify our new forest/ant paradise for the native ants in my area, applying permaculture principles to build a food forest. While doing so we finally hear back from my myrmecologist & ant taxonomist friend Dr. General regarding a mystery ant we collected last week. Turns out it was a new and rare find! I love how he says “we” instead of “me” it seems so simple but it really pulls you in and makes you want to listen and watch and makes you as hyped as him. It’s truly amazing. I feel accomplished without doing anything it’s crazy-

I used to have a marauder ant colony but then the colony grew too big so I released them in our garden, it's so cool to think that they all used to live in my room.
18:36 that is so cool!!! :) my families back yard is actually pretty big because its a old house their is a part where trees and plants have grown near around and inside/in between a tall fence it all happened naturally nature taking over and using man made structures you know I’ve always hated/ was confused by was the term and concept of “weeds” unwanted plants like there’s nothing that makes grass or trees superior to these plants why get rid of them (its ok to get rid of invasive plants)

Black crazy ants need to be destroyed in his region though as they are invasive. Though I don't have to worry here about them as they are native.
can attest to weaver ants’ addiction to mango trees! we have a huge mango tree behind our house with a just as huge weaver ant colony, so you can spot tons of them nearby. my parents think they’re a hassle, but i personally like them since they’re my favorite species.
there even used to be a colony in the palm tree near my room! i could spot the orange critters from my window. i can’t see them or their nest anymore, though. they probably got washed away by the typhoon months ago :(

Ants are kool n all, but in the end then theyre "only" a mirrorreflection of all the synergies that combined makes up the world. Theyre fun to watch, and even more so with an enthustiastic voiceover.
This is one of my fav YT channels. But ants are dwarfed by the magic that springs from motherearth herself. TY so much for what youre doing. Nomatter what the motivation and priorities are, the total impact is all the sudden what matters most to me. Plz include a few updates from the safehaven each vid - if possible. If not, then ill still tug in and watch the ant colonies, and ill do it with a smile.

My mom was also super cool and let me have about a third of the backyard to just let grow wild, which we called the habitat. This was inspired by some TV show on Animal Planet about turning backyards into havens for local wildlife, which I saw as a young child, so our own habitat was a big feature of my childhood. We even transplanted a few maple saplings we found all in a pot behind the shed, and we had other types of saplings around the rest of the backyard and over on the strip of yard on the right side of the house. There was also a male holly tree growing right out of the paved part of the backyard, right on the edge of the porch, and we planted a female holly bush over in the patch of grass by the stairs down from the porch, where there was also an oak sapling. Most of the trees started off small, the oak probably even sprouted right where it was, and over time they grew up to be taller than a person. My mom did end up taking a bit of the habitat to have her own garden, but the plants I really liked that grew in that spot she left to grow when they came up. And we also got some cool wildlife, a couple times we even saw mantises. We had to move a few years back, and part of the reason I was really reluctant to part with the house was because I didn't know if the new owners would keep all the trees, which I cherished dearly. It's actually still a sore spot for me, and I haven't dared to check up on the place since.
