Marley, I have a question for you. I've been a social media manager for some years and I have arrived at a conflicting crossroad. Personally (and I know this to be true for my friends and close ones), I do not respond well when I feel like strategies are applied to me (get this freebie, sign up for a free workshop, get into the funnel, etc.) as I immediately feel like I am being sold to and I know a paid version is coming up and feel like I'm another number. It simply no longer resonates. I find myself drawn to content creators that do not promote much (or very few CTAs), do not offer freebies, and more often than not, I'm the one asking or looking to find something paid for me instead of the other way around. These have been my purchases and I've been repelled by being sold to. I understand that the masses still respond to all these strategies and I wonder what is my next step as a business owner - because I know there are others like me out there. Not sure what the question was at the end, but it seems as though I am heading in a completely new direction.
I hear you. I think there are a lot of CTAs that come off with a "sales breath" kind of energy that is repelling. and you'll likely grow your business best with strategies you feel comfortable with and energized by, so if a workshop or freebie isn't the right fit for you, find something else that is. However, I also wouldn't avoid giving them an offer or telling them where to go next. Just like a dating, if you want to go out with them again, don't play hard to get. Express interest. Invite them. Try a mindset switch from selling to prescribing. Make your CTAs a "by the way" instead of a commercial break. If you're a weight loss expert making a video at a grocery store for easy meals, "by the way, I've written out my grocery list so you can print it and take it with you next time" You said it yourself, the masses respond to these strategies but I think the best ones that actually work are the ones that come across as genuinely helpful, not just salesy.
