My husband works for a family-owned corporation that prioritizes the health and well-being of their employees. They are generous with sick leave and parental leave, and have an option for employees to pick one day of the week to work from home. They get a discount on health insurance each month after a company-provided physical, and another discount if you agree to quit smoking or continue to not smoke. Dan runs his company as a family, which maybe more companies should do.

I also "understood" after a while that 'worthless people' deserve punishment when they inevitably make mistakes and that holding someone upside down and shake them by their ankles is just a funny drunk joke, and anyone that doesn't like to be surprised that way is just a whiny hag.

Here is a guy that has seen through the fog. Taking care about the employees generate better results for the company. Period! A problem is when the company grows large; someone may employ somebody bad for the job; or there may not be good enough recruits to hire. What would you do then?
Either way, I believe Dan made the right decisions for *his* company and I believe there are thousands of employers out there that should rethink their practices. If anyone of their crew does a great job, how to keep them with you? And how to make them do even better?
I believe here is the big problem for many employers, they cannot differ their own short-term from their long-term profit. Healthy employees give better ROI over time. Unhealthy employees may give better ROI short-term but LOTS of more headaches to fix the sickness-roll, those who exit, etc., and in the end ruining the business. Which is calling the curse down in themselves, right?

Debt is a choice, but yes employers can do more to help but it’s also the choices we make such as going into credit card debt/student loan debt which are optional not mandatory, it’s both, whats not a choice is where we are born and the cost of living.

You need a home to get employed and a car to get to that job). Majority of debt is also medical expenses that so few family can afford (most don't even have 500 dollars to save at any given point now).

    • @chrisg4997

Most people will put wants over their needs most of the time and that’s what gets them in trouble for example (one of my friends bought new speakers instead of paying rent which I let him borrow money and he later paid back because he would’ve been evicted), and with the houses and cars that’s reasonable but less the cars because you can buy used but people want the latest and best cars and do a 5 year payment plan instead of getting used and pay it within the year. If you can’t afford something don’t buy it unless it’s a car but you can buy used to minimize, and if you can’t afford a house, you can rent.

When I’m a CEO of my future company I don’t want someone coming in and ordering/guilting me to be thoughtful and generous exactly as in this situation. thankful he initiated this on his own with what he felt moved to do, making it genuine and ultimately amplifying the benefits. There's a big difference between a small company like Gravity Payments that employs ~150 people and has two owners and a company like Amazon that employs 750.000 people and is board controlled with thousands of owners. It's easy for Dan Price to make these changes because he's solely in charge of a much smaller corporate eco-system.

@@CriticalRoleHighlights Amazon can certainly do it. So if Amazon employs 750,000 people and they paid all of 30 employees it comes out to 37 billion dollars. Amazon made 69 billion in 2019. Pretty sure they could afford it.

We need a better system than 1% having more than they will ever need in life and those who never can make enough to even have a life . Putting more money into the pockets of the minimum wage workers would do wonders for the overall economy of every town ,city, village in the USA by putting that cash into circulation . The trillions that were given in the tax cuts that trump implemented didn’t trickle down into the economy , it was put into stasis through stock buybacks , bonuses , ( HUGE ones for the ceos , measly ones for the workers ). If those trillions in tax cuts had been for the 99% the majority of it would have been spent on consumer goods and services , home buying , start up businesses , etc......instead of being locked up and doing NOTHING for our economy .It’s common sense
