1987 TAMIYA STRIKER RC RESTO AND RUN REVIEW

- A legend is reborn but the legend had a brother. In 1987 Tamiya would create this amazing rc buggy. Tamiya Striker kit 58061. When this buggy was released it was shown in their promo video which had another striker in green to be the companion racer. My goal was to pay homage to the other Striker in green. Much time and effort to recreate that legend. The green is rust oleum spring green, CRP drive shafts, Tamiya GT 25t mod motor. Sterite plastic lid. Ball bearings throughout. Traxxas 2056 blue servo. Hobby quick run 1060 esc. Power hobby 2s 7.4 lipo. 2.4ghz fly sky radio. Degreaser, JB weld plastic bond. Tamiya puddy. MCI reproduction decals. Carbon fiber stickers. Testors paint. Many many hours of elbow grease was needed to make my dream come true. Enjoy but please subscribe, like and follow along on my Instagram lukesvintagerc and twitter Luke’s Vintage Rc@Vintage Luke. A new video of a new old rc is restored every month sometimes two. Happy rc.

Those cars are actually fun to drive.
Excellent restoration. Love the green too.
Thanks for showing the body repair.. turned out great.
Funny how the Striker isn't a universally loved RC from back then. But it's definitely a classic!
Nice work!
@@steveblackbird hey thanks. Luv restoring rc. Happy Summer. 😎
Green looks way better than the white one. Good job on the OG car.
Thanks buddy
Great video of all the planning and work that you put into it. I really appreciated the part where you shared how you fixed the hole in the chasis.
Thanks for watching and commenting. ☺️
I had this car back in 1988 Sarasota, Florida. It was the Futaba FX10.
Awesome, I have that car on my channel too if you want to see it restored. Thanks for sharing.
That color scheme is fantistic!🤠
I wouldn’t have thought that before the Tamiya video-all cred go to Tamiya for painting one green for the racing companion. As we know white box art is standard forte. This type of green In real life it is quite pretty on the Striker. Thanks for watching
My Man..... that Striker looks soo good.... fantastic video 👍
Thanks John 😊
My first car. Bill leckie rc in penrose. Auckland. New Zealand
Mid 1987.
Awsome for 2wd but kept throwing left axle. Was movement when suspension working hard.
Having said that it was running technigold black motor. Top motor in its day.
Good memories. Thanks man
Hi Chris. Yes the Technigold motors had some torque. On the axle issue especially when equipped with a fast motor would ware the cheap plastic shafts out fast. I use crp nylon ones that work great. Oh 1987 what a time.Robocop ruled! There’s actually a building of a vehicle I’m doing this Halloween for fans of 87 robocop movie. Thanks for watching, sharing .
Good choice on the green paint
Stunning I think 🤔 thanks
awesome job , that paint scheme grows on you
Thank you
Looks great in the green!
Truly appreciate you watching 🙏
Really liking the green paint scheme. Nice job Luke 👍😁
Thanks my friend
Beautifully done! Love the colour scheme as a nod to the vintage video.👍😎I never really liked the striker back in the day. It looked goofy to me then, but it has since grown on me. Nostalgia is a funny thing.😊
Thanks so much for commenting and watching. 😊
Proper vintage buddy, very nice !
Truly appreciate you watching.😊
Hi Luke a very nice looking and performing Striker. I like the colour scheme too. Take care and best wishes. 😊😁😉
Why thanks John. Have a beautiful day friend.😊
Really enjoyed that Luke, love the striker ! I’ve got one but watching your video makes want another ;) excellent content :)
Thank you Andy. Get another Striker but be picky cause mine was toasted lol! 😎
So true Andy! Makes me want another 😎
Love it Luke. The Striker as an Awesome looking RC and I absolutely love mine 😊
Completely agree thanks bud😊
Nice job Luke, looks great!
Thanks man 😊
This is one I remember from RC car action but totally forgot about. Always thought these were cool cause they looked like an Indy car but would go off road too. Keep up the great videos Luke
Hey thanks bud, strikers are quite fun and I’m glad to have restored one. Take it easy my friend. 😎
@@LukesVintageRC you too my friend
Good job...Very nice buggy
Thanks Roy🙏
Looks great
Thank you 🙏
amazing video as you always do 👍
Truly appreciate you watching 🙏
Man you did such a great job with this thing, I purchase one off of eBay for super cheap, it looks pretty rough I will be referencing your video when I do the restoration for sure, thank you for making this
Hi bud, my striker was a mess but that’s how I like them honestly. Wishing you the best on yours. Thanks for watching. Many more videos ahead please check back. Thanks 😊
Very cool and I love the color!!! It looks sooo much better now with a little TLC and few bit and pieces! Great job and a wonderful addition to you collection. I don't think we are going to get a re-release of this one so they are just going to get harder to come by!
Thank you so much for watching my fellow rc brother.🙏
Awesome video. This was my first car and I'm still hoping on a ReRe. I like your colour choise. It fits very well for the car. Thanks for showing the restauration process and the running👍
Please avoid front hits and hard jumps. The chassis right above the sreering links is the weakest spot in this car.
Truly appreciate you
Another great video in the bag!
I had a striker a while ago but it was so clean and mint I just couldn't bring myself to run or modify it, so I sold it on. Hoping I will come across another one that's not so pristine. Then I won't feel bad putting my mark on it!
Thanks man hope you get a decent one.🙏
@@LukesVintageRC Just not too decent lol!
I ran mine once, before I fully made it mint. Now thinking after seeing this, maybe I should get a runner
Hey, Tamiya. #rerethestriker
nice!!!!!!!!
Thanks bud
Pretty nice homage too the promo video one, though it's such a strange design with a mix of an F1 car & a buggy.
The Futaba FX does look a bit more traditionally like a buggy ofc if you want a different body for this, think it's even a straight bolt on basically but just as weak in the front piece there unfortunately.
Id imagine this with red decals & black like a Marui Ninja with the wheels in red or in silver would also look great.
Or maybe gold decals & a black body like the Marui Samurai i think it was called ?
Great looking buggies both of these mentioned.
Wonder if it's possible too reinforce the front plastic piece somehow, maybe epoxy in carbon fiber or a milled aluminum piece that with some longer screws bolts into the front end piece & the chassis a bit further back.
Or kind of design a different front end that can bolt into the chassis if it snaps off entirely with an aluminum plate instead with a similar bend & hole and maybe that plate is reinforced with a secondary one that sandwiches between the chassis bottom & it's the top piece that extends too the front taking over the job the front nose cone does with a 3d printed piece maybe.
Like 0.8 mm aluminium sheet on each side 4 holes in the chassis that it bolts down into in a way that doesn't mess with battery or electrics mounting.
Thanks for watching and commenting my friend. Godbless 🙏
Great video as always, man! Superb work right there. And loved it how you ended the video with the Striker original footage from Tamiya lol.
One question though, did you do any cleaning or maintenance immediately after beach runs? I always keen on running my TT02B and Nikko Scorpion on the beach but worried that the salty water and air might corrode the metal components. Cheers.
I appreciate you watching. Beach runs are fun but yeah you do need to clean them right away before they go back on display. 👍
@@LukesVintageRC ahh right. Ok thanks for the reply, Luke!
What do you soak vintage tires in to make them soft again?
Simple Green 👍
Hello from southeast alaska how's it going today bro
