  • IN THIS EPISODE I TAKE A BRAND NEW TAMIYA BBX BASED OFF THE BBO1 CHASSIS AND GIVE IT THE OL' LUKES VINTAGE BUDGET WAY WITH TARGET GOAL OF $300 TO MAKE A NEARLY RTR BBX. DOWNSIDE WAS WITH A PRE-ORDER WAIT NEARLY HALF A YEAR FOR MY BUDGET BBX TO ARRIVE FROM TOWER HOBBIES WAS A BIG DISAPPOINTMENT AS TOWER HOBBIES WAS IN TURMOIL WITH POSSIBILITY OF CLOSING AFTER MY PREORDER WAS INITIATED. EVENTUALLY THE BBX WOULD ARRIVE AND THE LOW BUDGET ITEMS ACCUMULATED- I BUY A 550 12T MOTOR ON THE CHEAP AND A LOW COST SERVO, A 1060 CHINA ESC AND A 23T 48P PINION , BEHR PREMIUM TROPICS, DARK STEEL, RUST OLEUM WHITE, METALLIC, REAL ORANGE, KRYLON JUNGLE GREEN PAINTS AND RUST OLEUM ADHESIVE PROMOTER. SUPER CLEAN DEGREASER. AND SOME FUN AS IT COMES IN LESS THAN MY $300 GOAL! HONESTLY I HAD A GREAT TIME WITH THIS BUILD AND RUN. EVERYTHING GOES TOGETHER SMOOTHLY. THE BUGGY DOES DRIVE AND HANDLE AMAZINGLY. HEX HARDWARE TOO WITH BALL BEARINGS STANDARD. TAMIYA YOU CREATED ANOTHER LEGEND AND POSSIBLY CAR OF THE YEAR 2023. I ALSO DO A COMPARE WITH A PREVIOUS LEGEND ALL IN THIS VIDEO. I OPEN BOX,BUILD,PAINT, AND RUN IT! THATS THE LUKES VINTAGE RC WAY. SO SIT BACK, GRAB A DRINK, SNACK AND JOIN ME FOR THIS BBX AT THE BEACH SUMMER FUN.

    Love the look of this kit! I haven't had an RC car since the 80s (Boomerang) but have been thinking about grabbing one again. I like the look of the BBX but was surprised a few things aren't included like servo + motor... how do I know what's best to get, or even compatible? Thanks for including links to your own choices though :)

      Hi Spencer, so I can imagine getting back into rc after many years out can be a bit stressful. The Tamiya Boomerang has just been rereleased so i think that would be the buggy to go for if I was you. I have the 86 in my collection that is coming on the channel in the late spring. There’s about 9 other rc I have to bring on. The BBX is great and runs great as the video shows. Both different-ones 2wd the other 4wd. Perhaps get both. Futaba radio 2.4g will always be nice, as futaba servo in standard form is good. Can’t go wrong. My advice where ever you go to buy ask the companies staff what they recommend as far as getting you moving. Thanks for watching and sharing your experience. Be sure to like and subscribe as I put new content on every couple weeks to month. 😊

    Hey Luke - Thats one cool looking BBX! - just wanting some advise as I have recently got into the RC Car hobby (in the past I flew RC Helicopters). How did the BBX fair in the sand and sea - did you get any corrosion of the metal parts? - also I have just built a Tamiya DT03 racing fighter - which I thoroughly enjoyed! (even managed to paint a green / white colour fade - and never even painted a body shell before!) - would the BBX be ok for my next kit (also looking at maybe a Kyosho Javelin) - what do you think? Cheers

      Howdy, So welcome to my rc channel, the Tamiya BBX is great! Easy to build and great price. So I do a ton of beach running in videos and It all requires after run maintenance tear down and lubricant to return to shelf queen status. No shortcuts in the rc game. Thanks 😁

    Luke, I have never run an R/C car at the beach but I would like to. The sand messes things up. Also, salt water destroys metal parts. I used to run R/C boats at the beach and had problems with metal parts getting destroyed. I used to do is spray my metal parts of my boat with WD-40 after using it in salt water. This would protect my metal parts until I had time to disassemble my boat to clean it. Some metal parts are more resistant to salt water damage. Titanium parts, aluminum parts and stainless steel parts. Thoughts?

    • @LukesVintageRC
      @LukesVintageRC  8 місяців тому

      Howdy, so I do a ton of video of beach runs with different rc cars on the channel and boat videos. With this comes aftercare. Honestly you should do cleaning on any rc driven or not at least once every 6 months as plastics degrade especially from 80’s. So my beach runs-My experience with cleaning is a simple one but time consuming-Especially the caliber of cars i have and boats. Air compressor, fresh water rinse, air compressor again. Total break down and clean and lastly Cow RC moo slick. A perfect result every time. There’s no shortcuts! Clean clean clean if you want a long lasting great running and looking rc not just metal parts but all parts matter. I hear so many people say just spray some penetrating oil and your fine. Horrible idea! Sand, shells, salt water gets everywhere and will destroy everything. Besides it’s fun no matter what- running and building that’s why I have an rc channel. Great question. Have a great day. Please like share and subscribe. Truly helps. 😊

      @@LukesVintageRC You know Luke, I have the Cow RC green cleaner and also the blower too. That might be a great way to clean up an R/C car after driving at the beach. Possibly a future video? Thoughts?

    • @LukesVintageRC

      @@alfredyost7972 promise I would never steer you wrong it’s what I’ve been doing for multiple rc car video reviews via beach run videos ex: Striker, grasshopper, rough rider, Navajo, hunter etc..check them out. The cleaning car care video you may want to check out is Hobbies Direct on how to clean your rc car and why. Great video. My videos are more on the entertainment side vs the how to. Basically- Find,restore, top speed and run review. A totally different rc experience each and every time. That’s more my jam. So some people don’t get my formula but that’s ok there’s hundreds of those type of channels and like zero the way I do it. Which is what makes Luke’s Vintage RC so special. I show the finished rc first, show the restoration, top speed and run all in less than 18min-And no repeats of the same car, truck, boat. A totally different rc each and every time once or twice a month for years now. I will never post a rc car that has a bad run either it gets fixed right and driven as if it’s brand new. Not easy to do. I take pride in the fact No other rc channel has ever come close. I do it all! Car’s, trucks, boats, custom rc too. Just boils down to crazy hrs of building and editing etc. I strive hard to keep this up and I got about 200 rc ready for their fix. I’ve been around est. 2016. Around 200 videos thus far. Fact I worked on rc since 8 I’m 50 now and I’ve been consistently pumping out content for years I’m honestly shocked you think I need advice on car cleaning, kinda funny actually. If I sound full of it perhaps I am but it’s what I breathe, eat and live for. Rc is me. Every single day I’m working on a project or reading about it and the company and the designers the drivers the tracks around the world etc.. there’s honestly levels in this game. If I stop for a day I’d get passed bud. Take care.

      @@LukesVintageRC Hello Luke, I have been in RC for years too. It sounds like we have a lot in common. I mostly like building and customizing RC cars. A long time ago, me and my buddy used to take Tamiya Blackfoot trucks to the beach. The original Tamiya Blackfoot trucks had half shafts that were terrible. We had the Thorp conversion kits for our trucks. We modified our trucks as much as possible back then. We used to take our trucks right into the salt water. We found out a few things when doing this. We needed to our receivers in plastic bags. Most servos would be okay for a short time in saltwater but they would die. We did not have water proof servos. Also the cheap Tamiya silver can motors were good for driving in saltwater. Did you know that those motors will actually work under water? We had fun doing this but the clean-up work required a complete tear down. Thoughts?

    • @LukesVintageRC
      @LukesVintageRC  8 місяців тому

      So it seems someone hasn’t watched my videos? I had already done videos on both of your recommendations. The submerged motor in the water is in my video How to do a mild restoration on an old electric rc motor. And the Tamiya Blackfoot shafts subject is on my channel too via video-Tamiya Blackfoot,Marui Big Bear, Kyosho Big Brute, MIP, Thorp, differential upgrades. Watch those videos they are over 5 years old but I’m sure you’ll get some great information you can use but you need to watch. Did you subscribe yet because I can see that you have not? Thoughts?
