Richard Burton was one of the biggest celebrities of the 20th century, as well as a towering presence in theater and film acting. Born Richard Jenkins in 19 25 to a Welsh coal mining family, Burton became a stage actor in his late teens. He soon developed his trademark intense, gravelly voice and impeccable delivery. After a breakthrough performance as Hamlet at the Old Vic, he shot to fame as a movie actor in pictures.

Burton became a regular at the house of a good friend of mine were he lived in purto Vallarta Mexico he had a few beers and hanged out with him often learning his lines - he said he was a smashing guy!!!

What a remarkable, nay, an amazing man, see the vast majority of us could not speak/stand/ act/ have sex/raise a glass to our lips after (his words) two bottles of hard liquor, let alone to go on to drink a further one or two in the same sitting - his words again. I am Welsh myself, but for all his drinking I am so proud of him still.
