His diaries were edited posthumously - and presented very well - by Chris Williams in 2012. In my opinion, a better version - and a true biography - was written by Melvyn Bragg. Try to get a copy of "Richard Burton - a Life" by Melvyn Bragg. Best wishes from Vermont ❄️
His diaries are fantastic . What a gorgeous human being likes that don’t exist anymore. He is so honest in this interview and yet so terrified. It’s a beautiful combination of emotion
I started watching Cavett when I was a preteen and Im almost 70 now. As an interviewer there is no equal, he always got the best out of his subjects. His subjects also always seemed so relaxed and so not "on," always getting to the core of the person.
This was delightful!! I’m old enough to remember Richard Burton… He was quite a character!! Very interesting life he had…He and Elizabeth Taylor were an interesting couple! Pure passion ❣️❣️❣️❤
Just a note, in the description you have "Tai Bath" for the family home whereas I think he is saying "Taibach" which is an area of Port Talbot in South Wales.
For those who like the sound of his voice check out the Jeff Wayne's Musical The War of the Worlds ! as He Narrates the entire story it includes the British Singer David Essex ! it's about an Alien Invasion from beings from Planet Mars invading England ! based on Orson Welles radio drama ! based on a Novel by H G Wells ( No relation ). Best enjoyed on a dark stormy night lying peacefully in the dark wearing headphones with a steaming hot mug of Cocoa ( or any beverage of your choice ! ) r.i.p. Richard 😢❤🙏
Across the gulf of space minds immesurably superior to ours regarded this earth with envious eyes and slowly and surely they drew their plans against us ..duh duh duuuh
When you look at his eyes and mannerisms in general you can tell he was a very intelligent thoughtful man. A legend.
Your right - he was a very well read man who also spoke 5 or 6 languages and found it easy to do so.
Beautiful speaking voice.
Richard was a legend. I cannot wait to read his diaries.

@@TheStockwellMelvyn Bragg is another working-class boy who most everyone assumes came from a background of privilege
What a legendary raconteur - a very fine actor he was too.

yes @caroledrury1411 !
I know what you mean-the way he looks around the studio,at the audience,at Cavett,he seems at times fearful and apprehensive.

There's a vulnerabiity about him that's quite appealing. An international treasure.
