Guido has now become a favourite of mine especially this music. The more I listen to it the more I love it ❤and it’s very cleverly written I particularly like the movement where bagpipes are being impersonated by strings, a genius.
Extraordinary, today - unfortunately - forgotten. Between 1713 and 1716, Crozat had a new decoration made for his Dining Room, commissioning 4 paintings from Watteau on the theme of the seasons. It was undoubtedly to pay homage to this new admirable ensemble that Guido composed around 1717 his “Scherzi armonici sopra le Quattro stagioni dell’anno”, based on four anonymous poems: The Characters of the Seasons. Each of these “musical entertainments” has around ten movements, and even if it has the name Concerto, also resembles a French suite: the music is also a clever mix of Italian and French. The publication of Guido's Seasons at Versailles does not bear a date, but dates from the period 1725-1733. The Seasons of Guido are in any case contemporary with the famous Seasons of Vivaldi, perhaps a little earlier. So who inspired who?

Brilliant, flawless, and plenty of joie de vivre. I had already heard his Autumn, a delightful composition, too. Would you be so kind as to bring us the Winter and the Summer? Best regards from Buenos Aires.
Beautiful piece and music by Guido who I never heard of before. Another genius to disappear and be forgotten. Reminds me of Vivaldi’s Seasons in places of the concerto here? An English composer named Christopher Simpson wrote music for the Seasons, his music was well received in England and Italy when studying with Corelli, it was thought this inspired Vivaldi to write his set of concertos? Pity Guido vanished , or he could have been a major composer of Baroque music like his Venetian contemporary? Love it ❤thank you Pau.
" the well-known virtuosity of Vivaldi’s work contrasts with the mixture of French good taste and Italian features of Guido’s Seasons; before the very descriptive poem illustrated by Vivaldi’s music with remarkable naturalism, Guido paid homage to each season, with a display of affects worthy of the French court. I love music of the baroque period but am unfamiliar with Guido. Thank you for opening up my ears to even more beautiful music.

The painting above is Jean-Antoine Watteau. It is said Guido's concertos were based on the four Watteau paintings. Interesting art history.
