Literally sitting here watching and enjoying this tutorial right now and i feel confident i can make this. You did a great job. I'd love to see you do a basic skirt tutorial too!
This was so simple and straightforward! I haven't put these to fabric yet, but I can already tell they are SO much closer than the ones I tried several months ago (and eventually lost interest in when trying to make adjustments). I'm so excited, thank you!!
thank you, spent hours of fun going back and forth from the computer to the paper following your every point, and i now have a front and back bodice block, bought some calico, and am about to have a go at my 1st personal toile for my size, i am hoping to get my shoulder length, and centre back a lot more fitted than i have been finding with regular patterns. thank you for your brilliant video
Can’t believe how easy that was to understand, thank you so much! Any tips on how to alter block patterns to make different kinds of fits/designs would be super helpful
This is truly the simplest explanation of this I’ve ever seen. Thank you! I am hoping you made the short and skirt block videos too. Either way, your videos are lovely and so helpful!
Hello I just wanted to say thank you for you excellent instructions. I would call myself adventurous begginer and from following your tutorial I have made the bodice and a mock up. I can't believe it fits like a glove first time. You explained things beautifully, and tomorrow I look forward to following your sleeve block tutorial. I really hope you will do more block tutorials for the bottom half too. ❤
I did it!! Thank You!!!!! I the easiest video I’ve seen. Easy to follow. You were very thorough. What you said and what you drew lines up..that’s a game changer (odd as that may sound) Thank you for offering this information to us.
You're welcome, my dear! I can totally make a video on how to transform this bodice block into a princess seam. It might take a little while because I do have other videos lined up, but once I make it and it'ss uploaded, I'll come back here and let you know.
You explained that so simply. Once we have the bodice block could you tell us how to make a simple blouse? I'm just a little confused with this as i know the bodice block is supposed to be exactly what our body is - but to make a blouse we need to add ease, but I'm not sure how much that would be and where on the block it should be. Thank you so much for your help and such clear instructions.
I used the given seam allowance as ease and I decided to add my own seam allowance when cutting the fabric. I haven't put it on fabric as yet but I'm working on it
@@ayana6816 thank you. However, the bodice block is exactly what the body is. That means without the seam allowance and without ease. And ease can be very different to the seam allowance as it gives us ease of movement according to how the body might move in that particular area. Eg your not going to need ease in the shoulder, but you will in the waist and chest area as they are areas that we move around. Thanks for your response, but I think we're in a different place in our thoughts.
Thank you for explaining it so clearly! Now how can I modify this pattern? For example if I want a bodice with princess seams? I would very much like a video on this!
I think I will make a video on princess seams really soon! You're not the first person to ask. It might take a couple of weeks, because I have other videos lined up before that.
Hi ! Thank you so much for this video ! Could you please explain how to use the ruler for making the armhole ? Because depending on how I "connect" the 2 dots with it, the curve isn't the same...
Thank you, my dear. I'm really glad it was helpful. No, you don't need to add seam allowance at the sides, since that was already added when we drafted (1cm or 3/8 inch). But it was only added at the sides, so you will need to add it at the bottom/top or any seams you might add later on!
This is great, thank you! I was just wondering, do I need to make the neck hole bigger for non-stretchy fabrics that can’t really be pulled over the head?
thank you for this video and the explanations (it was very clear). I've just discovered your account and what you're doing is amazing🥰I'm just a bit confused by something for the front. With a biger chest, the side dart doesn't go inside. It that a problem ? I'm actually doing your cottage core dress and this problem is blocking me. Thank you so much
Hi, thank you ! I just drafted my own bodice and I just want to know why you added the two cm upwards on the back bodice shoulder? Should I just attach it as per normal?
Hi! Thank you so much for the tutorial, it helped me out a lot as a beginner pattern maker 😀. I have one question though: for example, when you lower 3cm for the shoulder drop or 4cm for the bust line, are those measurements the standard for all body types? Thanks a lot!
Can you PLEASE explain how to draft an invisible zipper to your pattern? I can find hundreds of videoes about how to sew the zipper on, but never how to put it in your pattern. I want to make a dress with an invisible zipper in the back🫶🏻🫶🏻 your videos are amazing and so helpful!!
Not necessarily! It depends on the shape of your body. The darts are there to help translate the curves from your 3d body to a 2d piece of paper. You might have a bigger cup, so you'd need bigger darts on the front. But if your back isn't super curved, you don't need to make the back darts bigger because of the front darts.
@@coralinestreet thanks for responding to this question. I had the same question after watching and practice drafting. Thanks for the easy to understand video. A pattern making video for shorts would be much appreciated.

Hi my dear! This basic pattern doesn't have any ease. It's a tight fitting base. When you alter this base to the style you desire to make, you can add ease if necessary. It depends on the garment you wish to make later!
The front dart depends on the size of your bust, but the back dart is standard! That is, unless you have a sway back. Then you might need to add more. But for most people 2cm will be okay.

Can you explain why on the back we add 2 cm extra? Since we're copying the front bodice piece first then add the extra amount doesnt this make it misaligned with the front piece?
So all of the side seams, armhole, and neck have 1cm seam allowance built in. But when using this to make a pattern, do I need to add seam allowance to the shoulder and waist seams?
I have a question: We add 1 cm seam allowance to every measurement, except the length of the bodice, does that mean we add it later on when making patterns? And the 1 cm seam allowance to the width of every measurement is for one side only because the middle is on fold usually, is that correct? But when you transfer this basic bodice piece to a specific pattern which is cut on fold, you still add another seam allowance of 1 cm, and that's why i don't understand that we already add 1 cm to this piece. Can someone explain please? 😗😅
