This is a beloved cartoon. I watched it when new, and am close to 60 and still love it. The cartoon had several celebs on it. I always loved its bright colors, too.
I am a child from the 90s and I grew up watching the reruns on cartoon network and on VHS tapes. When I got older, I decided I was "Too Cool!" for Flintstones and watched other shows. I now have the complete Original Season on DVD and I have been watching them and loving it more than when I was a little kid. You have good taste in shows :)
I love "the Flintstones", I also grew up in the 60's, I enjoy the show in both, English and Spanish. I love that they had my favorite celebrities doing cameos. Ann Margaret, Tony Curtis, Elizabeth Montgomery. Great drawings. I wish they would still make cartoons for kids again, good, wholesome, traditional family oriented instead of the junk that is made these days.
We had a red and white 1956 Chevy station wagon. I just learned a few years ago the the surfer boys loved that car b/c they could fit their surf boards inside. That impressed me more than the original car. I had just turned 16 and gotten my license. We drove from TN to AK to visit our grandmother. This was in the days of full service at the service stations. We had put some hot dogs in aluminum foil and had them heating up on the motor. I was driving when we pulled into the station. The guy asked what he could do for us. I asked him if he would check under the hood to see if the hotdogs were done and handed him a spatula. The look on his face was priceless! We didn't surf but we had a great time with that car.
My generation! We had the Flintstones-and the Addams Family and the Munsters. So many good shows. Shows we could watch as family-with no embarrassment. Even shows like the Brady Bunch-it was just the best time for television.
From a cartoon to real life, l met James Darren in person in Baltimore, Maryland Event in 2011...every September for a 3-day meet and greet with your favorite celebrity...Mr. Darren such a nice and handsome man!!!
We were lucky growing up in the 60s and 70s, although we didn’t know it at the time. TV was the best and we had one TV in our house. Saturday mornings were cartoon watching time until about noon. Then my dad would take over to watch golf or baseball.
I cant believe that I was born within the generation of grooviness, the introduction of surfing, the surfboard, skateboards and skate parks, the have a nice day- happy face and the flower- power peace sign.
It is Sharon, this has been an ongoing discussion since I first uploaded this almost 8 years ago ... Too bad they don't make cartoons like this anymore ...
Yes, it was. Their other hit in this episode was "Wax Up Your Board(s)", from their "Tell 'Em I'm Surfin' "(1964) album. The "Wrecking Crew" did most of the instrumentation.
This is freaking awesome !! Remember watching this when i was only 5 when the Flintstones were on ABC every afternoon at 12pm here in my hometown in Canada.. I can now appreciate this tune even more now as a professional musician, observing the Beach Boys influence from the group who actually sang this tune, The Fantastic Baggys ..Great harmonies, with that distinct "surf vibe" which saturated the airwaves from the early to late 60's and had a whole slew of "surf bands" follow suit.. Dig what i'm sayin' Daddy--O ??
If I lived in Canada,I would be dreaming about surfing in California. I have visited all the Provinces in Canada! I have encountered too many wonderful Canadians; however, there is not enough Xanax, Prozac, mushrooms, marijuana, and alcohol to live in Canada, during the winter!
Great cartoon! Surfin’ Craze had several reincarnations including Skateboard Craze. According to PF Sloan, producer Lou Adler was crazy about this song and loved it so much. And yes this is the original backing track to Surfin’ Craze with new vocals.
I just watched it on ME tv lol. I didn't know the Flintstones were from California, guess the hollyrock bowl was a clue. Based on Jackie Gleason and the honeymooners. I like Fred much better. 😁
Along with The Beach Boys, there were; "Jan And Dean," " Gary Lewis and The Playboys," and The Everly Brothers," just to name a Few. All them had at least one if not more than one super hit song. God Bless You.
I remember this song very well when The Flinstones would air. This was when I was younger and this type of song was popular back then in time. Please post only positive comments over here. Thank you. Please stay indoors during this quarentine as much as possible. June 30, 2020 @ 10:25 pm
@Barnyard100 i've made this correction before and i will tell you the whole situation..Jimmy Darren did the singing vocals for this episode, an actor by the name of Lennie Weinrib did the voice of "Jimmy Darrock" for this episode, the Fantastic Baggys wrote the original song, and the original tune heard on the radio was done by the Baggys with original lead vocalist, which is either P.F Sloan or Steve Barri...
lennie weinrib directed wil wild winter and other beach/surf/ski movies. i believe he did the talking part and james darren did the singing. good episode. stony curtis, tuesday wednesday, rock ganite, dickyork and liz montgomery also did gust shots on this metaphorically rich tv show.1960 to 1966 and forever in reruns

Hey pal , I'm sorry I didn't mean to steal your thunder. I sent a comment to someone that the Beach Boys had to share writer's credit with Chuck Berry because they used the guitar riffs from "Sweet Little 16". A bit of trivia from the Music Choice Golden Oldies Channel. I shoulda scrolled down and read all of the comments. You posted the info 2 years ago.😳😳
LandondeeL Ha! Very good! But let's change Mike Rock to Mike Loam because it sounds more like Mike Love (loam, btw, is a kind of sandy, silty soil with some clay - okay, it's not exactly a type of rock, but it's close). Or, better yet... "Mike Lava!" And later we can add "Bruce Johnstone."
From left to right, the guitarists must be Brian Wilstone, Al Shaledine and Carl Wilstone. No way that could be Mike (Lava). 1) He wasn't seen playing guitar at this point in his career and 2) he was already thinning out in the hair dept. by his early 20's. Another indicator giving the edge to Carl is that the guy on the right is a bit heavier than the other two.
Somebody posted that there was no connection to the Beach Boys but at the end of this video there is this: www.beachboyssongs.com so there must be some sort of connection.
Also, the singing was done by a group called The Fantastic Baggys, not James Darren (I think). There was another song by them in this episode, Wax Up Your Board.
The Flintstones was never a kids show. It was a prime time animated series. It was a very clever, funny show.

I loved watching this episode with "Troy" Flintstone.
Brings back memories
The Flinstones had lots of cameos like Cary Granite=Cary Grant, Stoney Curtis=Tony Curtis, Rock Pile-Rock Hudson, etc.
One of the first shows in US (and the world) that implemented the cameos
None got any screen credit.
One of my favorite cartoons yay

Robert McArthur The Rip Chords I thought?
Robert McArthur And here I thought maybe it was set too early to call it Surfin' U.S.A.
Take care. God loves you.

Wow i loved both the songs from this episode his voice got some life in it unlike these days singer
Don't forget the dance steps and the instrumentation ...
Saw every episode as a youngster!
The Flintstones are great !!!
I seen the rolling Stones on The Flintstones and I seen the Beau brummel s but I don't ever remember seeing this and I'm 65!
Barney's really rocking to it...lol
The Fantastic Baggies!
Yet these guys sound EXACTLY like The Beach Boys.
July 22-23 when Catchy marathon weekend will have The Flinstones over 84 episodes
First time I've heard this. Right away I thought of Mary Hughes the gorgeous blonde from the beach blanket movies.
Oh yes, I remember Mary!💓💓💓
Would have been cool if a cartoon version of Mary was on this episode. They could have called her Mary Hughestone. And Fred and Barney would be drooling over her.
A great cartoon!
That's actually the song "Surfin' Craze" by the Fantastic Baggies (Sloan & Barri).
Wow! this is cool
This is great
Amazing how music in a cartoon is a million times better than what we have today.
I Remember this part
JUST A ROCK PICKIN' MINUTE......cool tune.
The song on the cap. of the flintstones is called "surfin' craze" (The Fantastic Baggys) that has to do The Beach Boys in this matter?
Saw these guys in Concert in what, 2019 at a local fairground's summer fest...
....
They still got it ^__^
"Surfin' Craze" is actually a real song (not just for The Flintstones) by The Fantastic Baggys.

Well from reading the comments...I can see that most don't know that Jimmy Darrock is a cameo for singer Jimmy Darren.
And Jimmy Darrock's voice was performed by Lennie Weinrib (1935-2006), later known for his role as H.R. Pufnstuf.
The three guitarists with Jimmy Darrock are Brian Wilson, Mike Love and Al Jardine!

There wasn't any in that era.
They should have rain this all the way to the end when Fred and Barney had a garage band with pebbles and Bam Bam with Dino and Hoppy
