It's awesome to see more videos into the tech of the Quantum and Iridium! It seems like the internet forgot about these legendary synths lately despite still being very relevant!
I’m selling my Waldorf iridium desktop, Then I’m driving from Dallas to Alamo music to buy the iridium keyboard from you Chris. You better be there!!! My iridium is truly a “from my cold dead hands” instrument, It’s beyond belief and an inexhaustible tool for sound creation. Best synth I’ve ever had and I’ve been a synth addict since my DW-8000 in 1986. My Korg prologue will never leave either.
Very cool! I’ve never heard this referred to as a kernel oscillator, but it’s quite similar to what you can do with the OpSix by combining the various operators in different ways with different waveforms. Also reminds me a little of Kurzweil’s VAST architecture.
Nice call! I was just thinking about the K2000 and how incredibly powerful it was when it was released in the early 90s. And regarding the Opsix, the kernel oscillator definitely goes into FM territory. The Iridium is a total stunner!
Pretty sure it's three oscillators per voice . And a kernel operator has 6 operators ( 1 DX7) . So with bitimbrallity you have 6 6op FM synths at once. And yes Kronos nautilus can prolly do more FM at once.
Kernel as in the same as what you would get from using Windows? The nitty gritty guts of it? Sadly this is a synth that I will never be able to afford.

Thanks for this. Need more vids that show you how to unleash this beast! 😊

Kinda, imagine the power of three op sixes in one patch

Just got an Iridium. Frightening FM potential. Not nearly as direct as with my Opsix, which stays in my studio for that very reason.
Another really really good video!!
Thanks, Patrick! What's your next synth? I know of one that would be perfect for you.
Is it possible to make the kernel oscillators free running? This patch is a bit fatiguing to the ears because they’re all starting at the same phase.
Can’t imagine how impressed you would be with a Nautilus haha
Does the iridium maintain 16 voices if you’re using all three timbres at once?

@@donleino yup
If this 2 years old why is so many vids being made today on it ? Like there an update or something
Because the iridium keyboard is fairly new
@@dbefore7165 just curious it sounds great
This synth will be relevant for a long time I believe
Way too much menu diving for me to have any fun.

Nope, it’s more like fancy FM
Get the desktop version, is like $1000 cheaper.
@@IanAlderige Sold the desktop for the keyboard. It's that good.
