  • The clutch is slipping and needs changing.
I start the job and hits some obstacles along the way like a 12 point 12mm bolt that needs 30nm and 90 degrees... pure horror.

engineer at mercedes 40 years ago:"how many bolts for the flywheel?" "all of them!"

I think that flywheel needs some more bolts, and just to be sure, add another few, and then finish off with a couple more, before adding another three... :P

0:00 you should do a 12 hour video of the Merc idling, it would be an awesome relaxation video, better than whale or bird song or waves lapping on a seashore.

Over-engineering at it's best. Don't want the flywheel coming loose do we? One of the best made cars ever.

I totally get what you mean about the "50Nm + 90 degrees" anxiety! Like you, I always have nightmares about the bolt snapping as you pass 85 degrees!
PS, my Trabant is getting close to going for it's MOT/TUV! Being in the UK, we REALLY get hammered on postage & taxes when buying parts from Germany. A 7 Euro part becomes nearly 50 Euros by the time it arrives here! 🤬

Its such a shame with the import export from UK... I really miss when buying stuff from your guys was not so complicated... :(

Reminds me to leave the flywheel alone when changing the clutch 😊
I wouldn't have known the bolts are stretch bolts, always a bit of a worry tightening them as if they snap you've a whole days pain sorting that out 😭👍🇮🇪

Yea... not reason to take it of since its a engine out if the seal needs changing... :P

Kinda wild how much material there was. If we didn't live in Denmark it would have been a nice candidate to swap in your 3.0 td engine if the incredibly short gearbox fits :P

Yea... wonder if it was not cleaned when chaning the first one.. I doubt its the original with 450.000km+ on the car... :)

Only reason not to find rear main seal/pilot bearing part is either North Europe too far from North Africa where it belongs as those MB flock together and migrate to warmer climates... other reason can be instead of asking regular parts stores you just need to go to MB Dealer asking for Classic OEM MB parts (100% all available, they claim).

The easiest clutch ever is the Saab 900 as the engine is reversed 180 degrees in the car.

If you know how to do it. Yes. If you have no idea how to do it - it is really confusing. And one must say - it is a quite unique design...

Yes as Mattias says... when you know how! It took a loooong time the first time I did a 900... the second time was a couple of hours I think..

@@SeasideGarage The quickest I ever saw was 30 minutes by a Saab Master mechanic. But he had probably done hundreds.
