I see three things you should do differently. . . first, you should PRIME the coolant hose with coolant BEFORE you do anything else. This is done by covering the cone-plug with your finger, while running shop air, and lightly opening the coolant valve (the hose in your bucket of coolant) until it draws enough coolant to fill the hose all the way to the gauge, then immediately close that valve. Then, insert the cone-plug into the radiator. Once you establish vacuum, you can shut off the shop air and close that valve.... the shop air is not longer needed at that point. Next, just WAIT a few minutes and monitor the gauge to make sure you don't have a leak in the system. If you lose vacuum, you don't need to go any further, because you have a leak somewhere.
