England A-level downgrades hit pupils from disadvantaged areas hardest ► www.theguardian.com/education/2020/aug/13/england-a-level-downgrades-hit-pupils-from-disadvantaged-areas-hardest
School year should've ended when the quarantine started, I'm getting so confused who to trust, one teacher says no grades will be given out, other says they will. My fourth quarter is starting (I'm in 8th grade) and honestly, there really isn't a need for the fourth quarter, we're doing so little compared to in person classes that it's pointless, and some of our assignments are just repetitive. I still recommend you to greatspyzie@gmail he helped me spy on my gf and told me he can change my school grades
As a GCSE/A-level teacher, I cannot bear to come in again next Thursday and see brokenhearted pupils. Results day is meant to be the best day of the academic year fo teachers and students.
@@felixletellier777I think his sentiments speak to the unprecedented and unhealthy levels of stress pupils today are subjected to with GCSEs and A-Levels. And besides, there is plenty of evidence in the educational field that suggest low-stakes testing is more effective than big summative exams like the ones British pupils do at 16 and 18 years of age.
I think 40% of the downgraded grades are mostly from state schools. While the top grades for grammar and private school are up. It's the top set students from state schools are the worse affected.
That's what happened up here in Scotland and our government stepped in to allow the teachers to change those marks to what the teachers suggested they should be. Hope the UK government follow that example.
They did not fail their A levels. They did not fail to get their univeraity place because they failed to achieve their predicted results by teachers based on their coursework, mock exams and tests in the A level exams, the exams weren't held. They only failed to get their university course because of an assumption based on a ridiculous algorithm came up with a forecast that they would have failed to achieve their predicted results had they sat their exams as normal if there was no coronavirus pandemic this year. Msrking students 2 or 3 grades down. In their A level certificates vs the prediction is ridiculous. 0 exams (should) = 0 fail.
I'm really angry on my sisters behalf...I have to admit, my sister did well. But how can you get an A* in your mock and your teacher predict you an A* and you get a b. I appreciate that others are in even worse positions... But she has potentially lost her ability to get into Oxford. She had preference and was hoping to get through via adjustment. Now I'm not sure
I’m a Malaysia student here, PLEASE HELP us. My peers and I received tremendously low results compare to our mocks and our college is refusing and brushing us off, we are completely helpless. I got a A, A, C for law, business and economics in my mocks but got all ungraded by Cambridge. If any one has any contact that might help, please help us put out the word that Malaysia Students need help! Thank you for taking your time to read this :)
There is no easy answer to this dilemma...if the exams were postponed how does one predict a 3 month tuition and tutoring run up to an exam that may be in the middle of the next Covid lockdown? We are in between those thinking they have a better grade than they expected/ deserved for doing nothing and learning nothing and those feeling hard done by as they were not even awarded their mock grade. And we all know that we didn’t bust a gut swotting for mocks. That’s why I don’t think it advisable to gloat over an unearned grade.
So how do you create a method of regrading marks that doesn't take into account looking at any course work, or the Mock Exam results or Teacher's predicted grades?!? What exactly is this algorithm based on?!?
@@sunmi4prez So pupils that are better than average at their school will be downgraded! If you come from a bad / poor school with very little resources but still manage to get top marks, you'll be punished. If you go to a top school and get top marks then, yer, that's fine - welcome to Oxford! And even if some pupils SHOULD have been downgraded, the random way it's been done means they will always feel they've been cheated, even though there were actually more A's this year than last year. What a mess. 🙁
When I was at school during the 1970's very few people in those days went to university, it was only the super intelligent and incredibly gifted. Today it seems like nearly everyone is going to university.
@@sarahmusa4775 I wish i had been born a lot later because now there is so much choice of what subjects to study for young people either in college or University. When I was in my last two years at school the career choices for me and the rest of the girls in my year were to work in a shop, office or train to be a hairdresser or a nurse and that was it. I remember working at a company where a work colleagues daughter had wanted to be a car mechanic and the teachers thought it was highly amusing and not the thing to do, how ridiculous, of course now she would have been encouraged to go for it.
I hope the UK government follow what happened in Scotland and allow the marks to be changed to what the teachers suggest. This year's been miserable enough without needlessly adding to it. Give the kids a break and a bit of joy
Government should be forced to release what grades the Teachers gave each student and then give students the option to accept the teacher grade if higher.
Shame on all the posters who were backing the tories and their algorithm to the hilt until the u-turn, and also shame on still all those who claim after the u-turn by the tories that the tories should have stuck to their guns that the algorithm generated results should still have stood. Due to these ridiculous algorithm generated results priveliged area students with coursework assesed results that were no better resilts than results from students from less priveliged students or deprived area, gained an unfair advantage by being guaranteed their place of their dream course at their dream university over those from less priviliged and deprived areas, many of whom in their A levels exsms would have achieved what would have been forecast gradea in a normal year actually would even have done better than some priveliged students had the exams gone ahead as normal. Apparently according to the BBC News earlier, the top university course places at the top universities were already effectively held for the privileged area students before students received their algorithm generatdd results so that if they apply for x course at x university after receiving their results through the post they got their place anyway. Yet another tory scandal.
