That's a good one. I remember from my time in the Navy that sometimes we turned off water for non-essential activities. Showers were the first things to be cut!
You seem to be turning that racer into a cruiser........Isabelle 2 maybe? A man of a certain vintage needs some of the home comforts though, so don't fight it. Great to see the main UA-cam sailing man back, and I hope any health concerns are well and truly behind you Patrick.

Yeah, I'm a bit anxious to see how the boat behaves in a serious blow. Lots of challenges still ahead of me. (Which is one of the reasons I'm not yet sure of my destination this year!)

We upgraded our own dodger in Sant Maartin, and built a total enclosure for cruising back home in Newfoundland All those upgrades you made are well worthwhile, wish I had ‘em! So happy to see you again Patrick ! I hope your health is fully ok by now. You’re likely to be surprised by the efficiency of Hempel anti fouling. I put Hempel Hard Racing on mine last July and hoisting the boat ashore mid October the hull had just an extremely thin, barely noticeable layer of algae. Of course the boat had kept moving most of the time during that period. Yet much better than any other paint I used over the years, which would have resulted in the same fouling in a matter of 2 or 3 weeks. Expensive, but worth the price. I wish you the best of cruising for 2022 and look forward to the next vid (curious to see what the destination will be this time). For me it’s gonna be Aegean Sea starting early May, until end September -God helping 😉. Cheers !

@@patricklaine6958 I sail in the KSFO bay and a dodger is a must! Christian has his views but for solo sailors getting out of the wind and spray can make an amazing difference in fatigue state and overall comfort.
Fascinated to see your 'battery box' with all the connectors integrated. I had no idea such a thing existed. So much easier than buying and wiring all the components, and it removes the likelihood of making bad connections.

Hi Patrick. Another inspiring video. Your ship is looking very tidy, sea worthy. I too have a spray hood and I wouldnt be without it! Here in the PNW it gets cold and very wet. A spray hood and bimini help extend the sailing season. I also ride motorcycle. Purists refuse to ride with a windshield. To hell with that. At 60mph it gets cold on any day other than a hot day. I ride with a fairing to stay warm, dry and prevent the bugs and rocks from hitting my face at highway speeds. Gawd help me, I've even got a totally encloseable cockpit when needed....as well as a "stack pack" by North Sails for the mainsail and a track system for the main which allows it to drop like a rock when I release the main halyard. The mainsail stops straight into the stack pack. All of this keeps me in the cockpit. Nobody needs to be dancing around on the deck in rough weather trying to secure the mainsail. Safety! I'm looking forward to your next adventure of unknown destination. The English have an old slang word for that: "coddiwomple." Meaning, "to journey purposefully toward a vague destination." Welcome back Patrick … so good to see you on the water again. Being just a few years older than you, it gives me added confidence that I have more years of sailing left in me! We did install a spray hood before our first coastal trip out of San Francisco. Does not collapse for visibility, but has very convenient and strong handholds. When we purchased it the owner of the business said he had always thought about having a statue made honoring all the women who insisted their husbands install a dodger. It was a joint decision for us, and one we’ve never regretted.

Yeah, I saw the UK really had a blow last week (as did we). I rescued several sailboats on my pontoon who had not securely tied up their boats and/or furling sails. Looking forward to getting out into blue water again.

We totally agree with you on the sprayhood because we had ours off for repair and it was freezing 🥶 It is an interesting experiment with the anti-foul, kudos for trying it 👍 We set off on our 2022 trip today and we will keep an eye out in case you come our way. Hi Patrick Great to see you back. Hope all is well and will be following you once more. I too have a twin rudder system and experience the same problem with prop wash (or rather lack of!) Your observation about light for night navigation surprises me though as I have a "feu de hune" (would that be a mast headlight in English?) which is bright white light about halfway down the mast and which I was thought was obligatory for when you are underway on the engine at night, so I am surprised your boat doesn't have one. I am now hesitant to visit the NW point of Spain because of the orcas! What a shame, as that part of Spain is wonderful. I'll see how the situation with the whales evolves there this season.

At one time many years ago I was sailing as much as possible, but not so much these days. Your journeys have rekindled my love of sailing. I now have a new retirement goal! Side note: My father-in-law is ex-USAF and a fellow pilot without wings. Your planning and detail remind me very much of him, as well as your loathing of helicopters!!

We “dumped” the old marine head system for a compost head. Fewer thru holes is a good thing. Converted one of those into an anchor wash down system.
You must add the swimming noodle for comfort on the bucket rim. :))))

Great to see you back. Hope all is well and will be following you once more. I too have a twin rudder system and experience the same problem with prop wash (or rather lack of!) Your observation about light for night navigation surprises me though as I have a "feu de hune" (would that be a mast headlight in English?) which is bright white light about halfway down the mast and which I was thought was obligatory for when you are underway on the engine at night, so I am surprised your boat doesn't have one. Good luck with your new adventures and I shall be following them when I can.

I am now hesitant to visit the NW point of Spain because of the orcas! What a shame, as that part of Spain is wonderful. I'll see how the situation with the whales evolves there this season.

Patrick I've so thoroughly enjoyed your videos - thank you for sharing your adventures. I've especially enjoyed your pithy quotes, song lyrics, and jokes! At one time many years ago I was sailing as much as possible, but not so much these days. Your journeys have rekindled my love of sailing. I now have a new retirement goal!
Side note: My father-in-law is ex-USAF and a fellow pilot without wings. Your planning and detail remind me very much of him, as well as your loathing of helicopters!!
