This song is gorgeous, beautiful and emotionally draining. Nobody has ever been able to duplicate Mark Knopfler's delicate & emotional power on guitar.
Very few people can play a guitar like Knopfler. The emotion in the lyrics and guitar are second to none. It almost brought tears to my eyes and I have known this song since it was released. Mark Knopfler is ini my opinion the best guitarist and songwriter of my time. I own every Dire Straits album ever released and they are still my favorite band after 40 years of listening.
Dire Straits brought this out after the Falkland’s war. Mark K with his talent saw a window of opportunity to bring to the world 🌍 a description of what it was like to put your life on the line. Fabulous reactions.
Thank you so much for putting this video together. The love and the raw emotion of this song by so many different people comes straight through the screen and smacks you in the face. Mark Knopfler is one of the world's truly great guitarists and Dire Straits one of the finest bands around. Such an emotional song so beautifully written and performed, if you have a working heart, you'll be affected by it. God bless all those involved with this. We all share a love of great music in so many ways.
I am not a military guy. I grow up in a country governed by a dictator, and in such conditions you can obviously not develop positive feelings about military. However, I never perceived this song as celebrating war or the military world. I know that a lot of young people go to the army because this is their best shot in life. They get sometimes involved in a war without really knowing what this means. And they often die, and leave behind family and friends. I always felt that this song is showing this sad part of the army. It is a strong, beautiful and sensible song.
Guys I was at a 1990s live concert where this MAGNIFICENT TRIBUTE TO 'OUR BROTHERS, SISTERS, GRAND/SONS, GRAND/DAUGHTERS, FATHERS AND MOTHERS IN ARMS' was performed and we all cried! It was an AWESOME CONCERT WHICH I WILL ALWAYS REMEMBER!✌️👍🙏👏
we lost 25 thousand lads on the first day of the Somme ...English scottish welsh and Irish lads..Mike is a true Geordie lad and a credit too the island we live on
This song was written at the height of the Falklands war. My son a Royal marine had a friebd who died in iraq. This was played at his funeral not adry eye in the house. Brithers in Arms mmeans a kot to the British Military
When i saw K.S.O's reaction the first time I wanted to cry along with her. She's a great reactor, no disrespect to the others, I watch them too on a regular basis. Enoma would have found a reason not to like it. They're the best, just ask them.
A little hard on Enoma, I've had differences of opinion with some of their reactions but at least you know they are shooting you straight and not just jerking you off. They are one of the relatively few reactors who will let you know they don't like a song. The majority of reactors are too afraid of people unsubscribing to come out and flat say "this song sucks."
@@88wildcat The problem I have with Enoma is twofold. First, often their not liking the song is the result of a complete misunderstanding of the lyrics. Rather than reserve judgement and ask commentators to explain what they don't understand, they just rip on the song anyway. Second, their arrogance. As I said, they're the best, just ask them. They build themselves up by trying to tear others down by calling other reactors "fake" while only they (Enoma) are honest. They can not like any song they want. When they start ripping on other reactors, that's where you lose me. I could mention that they waste tons of time going off on tangents completely off topic to the song, but I won't.
This songs it's an ode to peace. "Brothers" means all mankind. It was performed 79th anniversary of Nelson Mandela. You, me, North Americas, Russians... we all are brothers. "And it's fool to make war to our brothers in arms" it's a reference when the people cross their arms with each other to make a circle or a barrier to defend the rights to be whoever you want, whether you're from.
Kell hit it on the head, it's not celebrating anything, it is a protest song. And a remarkably fine one, Knopfler has been gifted to us by a greater power it's the only explanation for his whole body of work.
Brotha, the first time I heard of this song was an episode of Miami Vice called Out Where the Buses Don't Run, Season 2 episode 4. At the end of the showdown A retired Vice detective (Bruce McGill) offers to assist Crockett and Tubbs with their latest case. The only problem? The man the former detective claims is running the drug ring they are investigating supposedly died years ago. Check it out n u will here Brothers In Arms by Dire Straits.
A song where a live version might be better than the original. Check on youtube for the live version they do as part of the nelson mandela tribute concert.
No,I cannot do without tears. Now with is happening in Ukraine and I live near russian border 70km.....finnish history tells there are something to happen....fuck, if me and other generations have to go....-im old, but im prebered....only 50mlis of that grazy Putin......😩
I can see where this can be interpreted as a "salute to the military" type of song and it may have morphed into that now since it is a 35 year old song but I never interpreted it that way. I've always seen it being about armies or resistances of the people (particularly in Central America since just about every country in Central America was putting up a civilian resistance to some dictator or another when this was released in 1985) not militaries of the government. The opening lines about the mountains being his home now but his actual home are the lowlands sounds to me like he is in hiding or is involved in some type of guerilla warfare. His brothers in arms are followers of the cause, not actual servicemen.
Everyone dies in war... some of us just havnt realized it yet. You dont fight for peace... you surrender to it. Anyone who has lived by the sword will tell you, the sword will haunt you the rest of your days.

As a huge fan of dIRE sTRAITS, i've seen all these. Brothers in arms is such a masterpiece. Long live to my sultan ❤
Dire Straits brought this out after the Falkland’s war. Mark K with his talent saw a window of opportunity to bring to the world 🌍 a description of what it was like to put your life on the line.
Fabulous reactions.
In these days, Putin should be forced to listen to this Masterpiece, over and over!
Between the message in the lyrics and the raw emotion that Mark conveys with his guitar just brings you to tears.
My son is a combat veteran and my husband just retired from the Air Force after 21 years. This song hits so hard. 💔
Love them . Saw them when i was about maybe 16 or 17 in Faro, Algarve, Portugal. I’ m 51 now. One of the best shows of my life ! ❤️🇵🇹
As a vet, this song is so special to me
Agreed.
It's good to care for animals

Absolutely superb anti war song and the guitar from Mark is second to none . So haunting . He can make a guitar talk .
What emotions!!!!!! Tears- only tears!

The lucky ones get to come home, its up to those we fought for to ensure there is a home to come back too.
This is pretty dope man good stuff
A song that leaves you breathless.
Glad to see that video :) :) Among quite many reactors, Sultans of swing is a good choice too
P.S.: Sincerely K.S.O. and JBLETHAL TV are great
A masterpiece.
I loved seeing you all together reacting to this. Beautiful. 💕💕❤️❤️💖💖
-We can see a classic scene with this song, on the TV show "Miami Vice" in the 1980's, (in last scene of the episode: 'Out Where the Buses Don't Run')
we lost 25 thousand lads on the first day of the Somme ...English scottish welsh and Irish lads..Mike is a true Geordie lad and a credit too the island we live on
Such an excellent idea. This is golden. Great job!
Música que transmite unos sentimientos increíblemente tristes. Mi grupo preferido. Mi artista por excelencia mr. Mark knopfler..👏

The story is told 30% by the lyrics and 70% by the emotion from the guitar.
welcome back! gr8 video!
Love this song, and i've already seen all of these reactions... shame on me xd
Thank you! You're a true genuine reactor addict! (not a bad thing!)
Kell hit it on the head, it's not celebrating anything, it is a protest song. And a remarkably fine one, Knopfler has been gifted to us by a greater power it's the only explanation for his whole body of work.
I love this ❤️
How emotional in so many ways was that? Dire Straights at their best and I thought 'Going Home' was brilliant!
'Ride Across The River', a good one from this album...
a very good collection of reactors...some deeply affected by this song of war and its toll.
‘November Rain did it better’ 😂 I LOVE November Rain but the depth of emotion is not even close.
All the soldiers are brothers in arms. At the end they're all just young men moved around like pawns despite what side they're on.
Many people miss the fact that it is an antiwar song above anything else.
That play on one episode of Miami Vice greatest police series of all time
The king has returned

That's how I discovered both McGill and Straitharn. In THAT episode of "Miami Vice" to this song.
FanTASTic episode!
My local band, more relevant today than ever.
Great editing. Keep it up!
Love how he doesnt give the guitar a single more strum than necessary. So restrictive
FINALMENTE!!!
Welcome back, please Evanescence: call me when your sober, use my voice, my Immortal....
Thanks
I love his voice too. That is MARKO
to all whom served an still current serving
The two dumb dudes in the top centre box missed the whole point of the song - great reactions from everyone else.
Totally. Maybe way deep for them to understand.
I didn't realise there were two endings to the song, I'll go and see which versions I have now...
A song where a live version might be better than the original. Check on youtube for the live version they do as part of the nelson mandela tribute concert.

God bless our veterans...
Killers..Iraq,Afghanistan,Vietnam,etc
it is really amazed me that those ten people haven't heard of dire straits... in which planet they were??
Its hilarious for someone to compare this song to November Rain :D
Totally agree. Maybe he didn't get the message. Way deep to him.
These guy only react to the music, never the lyrics, never the meanings, such a shame.
You should do a reaction video on Roy Clark second to no one
I'm having this played at my funeral...I want everybody to cry!
Why when I die I want everyone happy and than get to the boozer and get pissed
The first funeral I ever went to played this song. It was a suicide, he hung himself. R I P Brian ❤
jb lethal only one who seemed to understand
The greatest anti war song ever
'we are fools to make war on our brothers in arms'. This song is about this line, it laments the facts that there is such a thing as veterans.
❤ Woodstock
Or witman, rock
I think I like this better than sultans of swing. It’s a close race
Please do YES - Close to the Edge. Roundabout. And You And I.

88widcat the song is about the Falklands War! and it was written, to be about the Falklands war!
Us are not the only country in the world.....

Well put brother.
who the f kept talking?
If only Yanks stopped yapping and instead listened to the lyrics, perhaps they would comprehend what a song is about! Thick? Effing gormless!!!!!
Women think they have to cry
