- The new Vortex Strike Eagle 5-25x56 is a very impressive scope with tons of features considering its price point. The scope has a premium feel to it, with great turrets and optical clarity. The tracking of the turrets appear to be very reliable in my initial testing. Thanks for watching, I hope the content of this video is informative.
My 5-25 strike eagle is directly interchangeable with my nightforce Atacr f1 at almost 1/4 the price. Amazing scope. The zero stop limits you to about 50 moa so I just bought Burris signature rings and zerod the scope out just off its bottom. Hit a 18x24” target at 1670 yards 5 times in strong wind with 150gn ssts in 308 on the first day out.
Probably the best review video I’ve seen on an optic. Great info
I bought one two days after they came out for my Tikka T3X Tac 6.5 CM. My DOPE (100yrds - 1000yrds) has been dead solid since I started using it. I was planning on spending a lot more money for the features of this scope 500 bucks was a welcome surprise.
yes, it's a great value!
@@Womfat I'm about to order another one for a Savage 110 Elite Precision .338 Lapua I just ordered. P.S. Love the channel just hit the subscribe button.
Jim Hogue thanks , I appreciate it
EBR-7C is why I bought the Strike Eagle... I first looked at it through a Razor at a match. Then ended up getting a PST gen2 when they came with it a few years ago.
My situation is very similar to yours. I wasnt looking for a new scope but with the features and the price... I couldnt resist. I even prefer this thing over my PST Gen II in every way except ever so slightly, glass quality. And its much much cheaper and it has a 34mm tube so the field of view is huge.
Thats good to know. I had been interested in the PST Gen II in the past. I'm very impressed with the Strike Eagle, I'm happy I waited.
@@Womfat Would you say it’s good up to 800-1000 yards? I have a Nightforce ATACR on my 300PRC but I’m building a little brother budget rifle now. I love my NF but I don’t want to drop the money for another one. I’m torn between this one and the Viper PST.
This review is top notch
Very well presented video. Lots of useful testing and info here. Great job!!
Thanks for this comprehensive video! You’ve convinced me to pick one up!
Great comprehensive video. Thank you!
Glad it was helpful!
Excellent presentation. Spot on information and technical review. Thank you.
Ty so much you covered all my questions I bidding on one r now
Great scope even if it was a higher price. Absolute value where it is priced. Mine functions great, clear and very functional eye box.
I can't get my elevation or windage to move. Only when it's at a distance. I just got my 5-25-56
a week ago. I haven't even taken to the range I'm so pissed. Any help anybody.
George Avitia ... are you lifting the turrets to unlock them before you adjust them?
@@Doc.Holiday
Yes doc. I've been pulling them up.But my turrets are really massy.I took them out and put a target in front of a white card board and they moved pretty good.
Thanks George
Great video. Very thorough review.
wow really good review dude, heaps of great information and you tested the scope out very well. Really look forward to your next review on the glass quality and hopefully we get to see what it looks like through a scope camera of some sort. I think this is my next scope that ill be getting in a month or two.
Thanks for the feedback. Its hard filming through a scope without a dedicated scope camera, which I don't have. I don't think you'll be disappointed in the Strike Eagle if you pick it up
Great review 👏 keep up the great work..I think I'm going to buy 1 now ...
I think you'll like it, it's an awesome scope
One recommendation concerning your tall target test: That's a perfect time to zero your bubble level! I didn't see one on your optic, but I'd highly recommend one. If you've got a known plumb reference (your target, using a carpenter's level, for example), you can cant the rifle left and right until groups print perfectly straight up, then tighten down our bubble level to match. This removes all left/right uncertainty due to either 1) the scope not being mechanically perfect (nothing is) and 2) any human error you make in leveling out the rifle with what appears to be the environment or horizon while dialing or holding for extended range.
Yeah, I’ve since installed a Burris level on the scope. It wasn’t in this video though
At 500 bucks with the mil discount, this is by far my favorite scope at the price point. and probably the next higher price point too
It's hard to beat!
Where do you go where they accept military discounts for this scope?
Where you got you mil discount?
@@dangelini1137 ask around if they will match the expertvoice pricing. most dealers will with proof of service
@@moto_MO thanks!
Very thorough. Thank you
You said that Vortex puts even the nicer reticles on their cheaper scopes, that is mostly true. However, you do have to pay a premium to get the Horus reticle on the Razors. Just thought I would point that out.
Great video, keep up the good work. And safe/happy shooting.
This is true, thanks for the correction. I was more trying to compare it to other companies that only put usable reticles in top tier products, leaving you wanting more in the entry level options.
@@Womfat yeah, I know what you mean. Most other companies at the price point of the Diamondback Tactical and Strike-Eagle FFP just give you a simple mil-dot reticle. For the price, you cannot beat a Vortex scope, but I think I am going to save up more and go for a Nightforce when the time comes. I would prefer to get an American made scope with Japanese glass instead of a Chinese optic, even if I need to save up a little more.
Hard to argue with a Nightforce if it's within your budget haha
Have just subscribed to your channel after coming across it by chance. I found the elevation test interesting and will look at trying it out. Also, do you use thread lock when mounting scopes and rings? Cheers from Australia.
Excellent review Womfat, you covered pretty much everything about the scope...for the price, it sounds like a no brainer option if you have lots of rifles and cannot put high end scopes in all of them, or if you are on a budget. What is the ARCA Swiss adapter you are using on your Atlas Bipod (with the L lever)? Thanks
Keep up with your good work, and greetings from the UK.
Thanks mate. The lever is a podlock that comes with the Atlas BT-65 CAL. The arca mount I'm using is from Area 419. I have a video on my bipod set up on my channel.
I paid near twice as much for my rings 34mm 1.5" Zeiss with level bubble is about 200 dollars US as I wanted to be more accurate based on being able to see the level of the rifle at the same time.
Oh wow, thanks on the info on those rings
You bet, I would have installed them incorrectly if I hadn't randomly read the back of the packaging
@@Womfat Do they offer dovetail ring mounts too, or only piccatiny ring mounts?
where can i get the plastic vortex tool? seems like im having a problem finding one
What is the phone app you are using for the side shot scope/phone mount?
I'm just filming with the phone and then overlaying the footage afterwards.
“tight groups...I guess it's more a feature of the barrel”
Perhaps not the scope itself, but it certainly validates your scope mount system (which I've not heard of previously), so definitely of some significance here...
i may just have to buy that scope however i think you sold me on this 22 rifle details please and what ammo did you run
i like that exact setup
I have a video detailing the entire rifle build you can check out
Good job!
Nice shooting, I built the same rifle! I have RWS and Eley sample packs arriving soon, and im going to be testing for accuracy, and consistency over a labradar. I got bit ahead of myself and tested a box of Eley club I had laying around and might have already found the winner. If you can find any test it out, 35 shot series ES of 26 FPS and SD of 5.6 FPS. Great accuracy through the IBI 22" as well.
Very cool! I find my rifle does not like Eley club. I get good SD and ES with it, but the groups leave something to be desired. Too bad, it's readily available locally.
My biggest question: I’ve been searching reviews for this scope, and the majority of them are on rimfire or very small centerfire calibers. Is there a reason? I understand competition is a big reason, but why is there that correlation with this particular optic? I may be a little odd, but I couldn’t fathom putting a $600-$800 optic or higher on a rimfire or similiar.
I’m shopping for my first lrp rifle, a .338 Lapua Mag Rpr. What would be your recommendation on this scope for the 338? (Probably wouldn’t get to pass 1k yards often, but would love the capability to.)
Probably has to do with the price point. Most competitive centerfire shooters run tier 1 scopes. More likely to see a midrange/entry level scope on rimfire
Parallax goes down to 15 yards, enough internal ajustment to go past 300 yards with sub-sonic ammo, price is fair for a feature rich scope, ebr-7c reticle matches your other comp rifle reticle...
Great video, i just got the same scope , and my cz457 , so you have a fan who will follow your best practices! Quick question , which bipod would you recommend for 457 varmint with wood stock ?
Can’t go wrong with a Harris if it has a swivel stud
Looks like your rings are 1.25". I'm considering the 0.92" height Vortex rings with the exact same setup (457 MTR and 5-25 Strike Eagle). Based on a little analysis from your video, I'd say you've got ~14mm of space below the objective bell. If you didn't have the sunshade on, do you think you could lower the optic by ~8.3 mm without impacting the bolt handle or inhibiting other features of the weapon/optic?
Excellent video by the way!
Yes, you can easily use .92” rings but I wanted to clear the mirage shield
Im currently running a 4-16x44 diamondback tactical FFP on a CZ457 Varmint. I have a 419 30MOA rail on it. Im considering this scope. would you consider this Scope a significant upgrade from my current one? I know it has more adjustments and spec wise its better, but how is glass clarity and personal experience? also, knowing my set up now, what rings and height would you recommend for me?
I went from a 6-24x50 diamondback to the Strike Eagle. The biggest improvement in my opinion are the turrets (both feel and they are now 10Mil/turn) and the glass quality. The glass is not going to be top tier but it is noticeably higher quality, especially on higher magnifications. I'm not sure how the 4-16x diamondback image quality is on higher power, but at 20+ power on the 6-24, I could notice obvious image degradation. The strike eagle maintains good image clarity even to the higher magnification range
@@Womfat the 4-16 shows those same issues. i'm going to shoot a match with it first before i make any decisions, but i think my next upgrade will be to this. also, thanks for the videos and comments, your great at this.
Hey man, just stepped into your vid and instantly got a question: what bolt handle is it?
Area419
Expecting mine tomorrow:)
Nice! I think you'll like it
What is the ring height on the MDT rings? I think they come in Medium, High and Extra High.
I'm running the high rings in order to clear the mirage shield. Otherwise I could have easily ran the mediums.
Depends on your rifle. I used Seekins Low on mine.
@@Womfat thanks bro, I ordered the mediums so fingers crossed :-)
Great review. How does the eye box compare to the Diamondback Tactical in terms of forgiveness at high magnification?
Its better, but not incredibly so. I didn't have any issues with the diamondback though
@@Womfat I"m looking forward to your comparison between the two scopes as I'm not sure if I can justify the $500 CAD difference yet.
Good review mate and are you happy with Ibi barrel over Cz barrel
The IBI barrel has been awesome. No issues with headspace, and very accurate. Seems to like different ammo than the factory barrel.
Yo bro, awesome overview video. Is that Stittsville Range?
You bet
Cyclops says on his channel that of the 3 scopes he's personally seen, all 3 had to be sent back, and of the 6 guys at his range who own them, 4 had Vortex phone number: do you know others running this scope, and if so what are your collective experiences in this regard?
Yeah he commented on my tracking video and I asked what the issues were, he never replied. I only know of one other shooter in person who runs the strike eagle and he is very happy with it. I can only speak from my experiences, but I’ve had great luck with it. The only thing is the parallax knob is a bit stiff still but it’s a minor issue.
@@Womfat Ah yes you mentioned that on the video. Never did break in eh?
If u still have this scope, how's it holding up now a year later?
I did an update video on it you can check out. In short it’s still going strong and I really like it
How does this compare to the Bushnell Match Pro?
I've never used the Match Pro, sorry
Which retical?
your right a cheper scope
Ring mounts ?
What is the height of your MDT scope rings?
High 1.25”
Nicely done. What height are the MDT rings?
They're high 1.25". I was running low vortex rings before 0.9" but now that I have the mirage shield on the chassis, I wanted to clear that.
With that scope on a .22lr platform are you able to hit 700 meters ?
I’ve never tried sending rounds to 700m. I doubt anyone would be able to make consistent hits at that range with a 22
One 1000yards later...
What is your idea if compare it with PST Gen 2?
Kanit Sataman I don’t have a PST, sorry. I can say the feature set on the strike eagle is more impressive. The PST May win in glass quality, but the strike eagle is more than enough for my needs
@@Womfat Thank you for your reply. It help me much to make the decision.
So the new barrel is working for you.?
anthonykhalil70 yep, the IBI barrel is shooting great
Where did you get the sunshade ?
Comes with the scope
@@Womfat nice ! Didn't find one alone on rhe vortex website
Nice review... but just wonder, do you really need this much magnifications for a .22 LR?
Depends what you’re using your 22 for. I use the 20+ magnification range when shooting beyond 200 yards or if I’m shooting for groups.
Womfat I have not tried to shoot my Ruger 10-22 past 100 yds. I should try it farther than that.
You should try it, it's a lot of fun!
Womfat I will. Any specific ammo/grains is best for the long distance?
Generally you want as high a velocity as possible, while keeping it just under supersonic velocity. I've been testing eley club, eley sport, eley force and SK long range for shooting out past 200 yards. Also an ammo with low extreme spread and standard deviation is best
Hello shooter
What is the brand of your rifle and beautiful shots
It's a CZ 457, I have other videos on the rifle
What range are you at?
I shoot at stittsville ranges
You mounted this scope....on a 22LR? Wow, that's such a waste. Then I realized you have a 22LR mounted in an MDT ACC chassis. WHY???
Because we can!
Look into nrl competition.
Great scope. They just ruined it completely by putting the wrong style zero stop. They should’ve put the RZR zero stop so you can have the full 110 MOA instead of just 47. I shoot ELR so I use every bit of adjustment in scopes so this is a fail
The zero stop is removable if the full range is needed.
you put "optical clarity" and strike eagle in the same sentence. you need to stop lying to these people
Too bad it's made in China
I've never seen one made in China. Philippines, yes, but not China.
