I used to just buy every little thing I liked. But after taking a year of a no buy- I LOVE what’s left in my collection. And it’s an actual collection and special. Now when I feel like shopping I am sooo critical of every product I see. The items that come in have to be just as special and I just don’t feel like shopping. 😊
I am on a no buy and I'm working on decluttering so things can find new homes and hopefully get used instead of sitting on shelves and in drawers. Shawna and you are both part of the reason I have looked into my over consumption in makeup. Watching no buy and project pan content has really been beneficial for me. I'm glad you did pick up the things you wanted, they were things that filled a whole for you.
I find this video and your views towards panning and how you view your collection to be so relatable. I started a no buy for the month of January. My intent was to allow myself (1) item. I have so far purchased (3), the Trendmood mystery box, a Bobbi Brown Lip balm that I wanted (for half off), and the Sephora Kit Lip Kit. For me, even though I have missed the mark by two purchases I have still grossly reduced my purchases compared to last year. I am being much more intentional about what I bring in, which for me is the intent of the no-buy. Still want to see your journey!
Love that you're not giving up and you're looking at the month optimistically! As long as you improved compared to what your habits used to be liked, you're doing amazing :)
@@laralikesmascarathank you! I appreciate the encouragement. I am honestly doing it more because I don’t want to have a bunch of expired products and to have regrets later. By the way, you look vibrant in this video! :)
I always love to hear your thoughts, it's super interesting to get to know other points of view! For me, I did a replacement only no-buy in 2022 (had to buy powder and concealer). And then, did a low-buy in 2023 (had a few items I didn't owned and allowed myself to buy - like a banana powder and an eyebrow pencil, for example - but anything that wasn't on that list was a no-go). For 2024, I'm allowing myself to buy products at my own will (although still avoiding eyeshadow, blush and highlighter), but no impulse purchases in order to 1.See if I'm finally at an healthy point, where I can buy some things but not everything and 2.Add a few funnier items to my stash since I was getting down to only more boring things and getting more bored by the day with what I had left
I bought the New Mario palette and that all im using, like you i said nobuy but ended up with that.... Its all i need for eyeshadow... I also get a allure beauty box to try new things and omg ive got so much crap i dont want or need so may cancel that... I know what i like and im a boring makeup gal... But i like it....
It's so interesting to hear your point about no vs low buy.. Like I agree so much and I really admire your journey 😊I struggle how to frame my no/low buy. I want to do a no buy & wording it as a low buy makes me feel weirdly stressed. I want to reduce my collection by using it as you say + thoughtful declutters and of course really reduce shopping long term BUT I have staple products I use all the time and buy multiples during sales. Doing a no buy I feel odd buying these this year but I want /need my staples as not enjoying my make up is not an option 👀 I'm also feeling a bit guilty that this reduces progress panning other products... But I still use other products multiple times a week.it's frustrating to have these inner nagging voices which are derailing my focus I feel and make it harder to be successful 😐do you have any tips? I'm planning declutters this year too. I should be able to thoughtfully reduce my collection. Some to make up exchanges, charity but I also got plenty sought-after releases to resell. In 2023 I finally became /was able to be more thoughtful about shopping and much better saying no. most importantly I became confident & sure of my preferences/style. But as happened to you I'm sitting on a lot of things I should not have bought now... These I want to reduce /use/give away. I feel in a weird place... I don't feel stressed or burdened by owning a lot right now but I want to make reasonable good decisions, not hang on to things I don't need /want out of magpie mentality but rather give them away, making smart buying decisions instead of being too obsessed and down scaling. I'm even liking that I have many different things to choose from, can recreate all matters of looks, have something for every occasion and mood. I guess I want to get to a healthy place as in: where would I have been without beauty guru influence 😅😅 I think this will be a multi year journey as it was for you and instead of worrying or beating myself up I rather want to see the positives, feel encouraged and own it... Sorry for the long rambles
I'm so glad to hear that 2023 was a more productive year for you in terms of your shopping habits and getting to know your preferences better! If what you did last year worked for you then I think you should just try to continue along that path. Even though I probably don't need to be on a makeup no buy, I've just found that it is what works for me and so that's why I've continued!
Thank you for the very inspiring video. I am on a no buy this yr with limited exceptions. Honestly, you have to do what works for you. It doesn’t need to make sense to anyone else
Thanks! It was nothing special - the lip gloss is an extremely old La Senza one that I should probably declutter and my blush was likely Bite Chai which I have been trying to pan :)
I totally get the anti-capitalism, but believe me, as a person that had lived all my life in an excommunist country, it is not an option! Communism never worked and will never work
Let’s hope that there are other options that work without the harm of either society model! Hopefully this is something we can experience in our lifetime.
I hear you that Communist systems have hurt many in the past. I don't think that that means that it's impossible for communism to work in the future, but I agree with @notjustirene
Communism has just always been co-opted by authoritarians. If that's an inherent flaw of communism, then yeah, it doesn't work. But I do wonder if it would be possible to do democratic communism. Obviously, a system for the people *should* be democratic. The fact that it's always ended up in the hands of authoritarians is a farce.
I’m definitely not a scholar of financial systems or anything but I don’t think that should preclude me from discussing communism! I think if anything it is a benefit for everyday people to not be afraid to have these conversations bc they’re afraid of being wrong

I'm so glad to hear this!! I myself would not be where I am with makeup and consumption without no buy and project pan content, as well :)

That's great! So good to hear how your relationship with makeup has improvement and that you're at a healthier point now
I was just wondering about this and if you were going to do a no buy for 2024! You are truly the no buy queen!
hahaha I can't STOP
I enjoy videos about your makeup no buy and appreciate content about thoughtful consumption of makeup and all other products 😊
Yay thank you!!

I was praying for this to be the 2024 project pan video ! But I still enjoyed the video 😌🤍
Hahaha 🤣 don’t worry, it’s coming!! That’s next Saturday!

Thank you!! And best of luck :)
You had inspired me to do a makeup no buy this year and use my collection up! May the panning gods be on my side! 😂😂😂
Yay I'm so glad to hear it!! Best of luck :)
Your makeup is so beautiful! Can you share the products you used (blush and lipstick in particular)? 😊
Thanks! It was nothing special - the lip gloss is an extremely old La Senza one that I should probably declutter and my blush was likely Bite Chai which I have been trying to pan :)
I guess that all the crap we bought in 2016 (lol) helped us learn what we love and what we don’t! Now it’s easier to go on a no or low buy.
I like that dark cherry cola lip on you! 😄
Thank you! I think I’ve gravitated away from dark lips in general, but also don’t love the obvious lip line look. But it’s def a look!!
The Communist Manfesto sounds like one of those books people want to have read but don't want to read 😂. Well at least you have read it now!
YUP this is me in a nutshell. More of a *feel like I should read* type of book. It only took a few days so I’m glad I got it out of the way!
