  • When you receive a rose or visit a garden with roses, what is the first thing you do? Usually that answer is, YOU SMELL them! Unfortunately many roses, especially those for rose shows, do not have much of a fragrance at all! . In this video you will learn which roses I consider to be most fragrant in my garden. Some of these have both good form for a rose show and still smell great. Others may lose their form fast but are well worth the smell! Most of these you can find available quite easily for purchase. NOTE: When this video was made, one of my all time fragrant red roses was not in bloom: Mister Lincoln. This is one of my recommended roses for ANY gardener.

    __My Channel__
Welcome to our channel!! Videos posted are meant to encourage and help future rose growers in the love of growing roses.
My story with roses began as a teenager, helping my father in his rose garden. We lived on a suburban lot but he grow almost 300 roses! My father competed in local, regional and national rose shows. His garden consisted of mainly exhibition hybrid tea varieties with some mini and mini floras. My biggest chores were digging holes for new roses, weeding, mulching, and putting down compost!
From that experience I found a love for growing lots of things! In my early years I grew vegetables and flowers. For our wedding we grew impatiens in pots all summer and used them as table centerpieces. In 2013 I started with 7 roses, a few for possible exhibiting (Gemini, Gold Medal), a couple from my fathers garden (Elina, European Touch, Ivory Touch), and two for fragrance (Mister Lincoln and Double Delight). In the spring of 2014 I entered my first rose show and won Queen of Show at the Syracuse Rose Society with Gemini. After getting King of Show at the 2014 NY State Fair with Elina, I was hooked!
In 2015 I won Queens at five straight shows (Reading PA, Buffalo, Syracuse, NY State Fair and the American Rose Society National Fall Rose Show). At Nationals, I won Queen with Moonstone, King with European Touch (yes, the bush from my fathers garden 2 years before) and Princess with Veterans Honor. My garden by this point had grown to 42 roses, mainly hybrid tea exhibition roses. In 2016 I won the Queen of Show with Crescendo in Syracuse before moving to Eastern North Carolina in late 2016.
Restarting a garden in a warmer climate was exciting because I could grow more varieties and try different rootstocks (fortunania). Challenges include working with almost 100% sand as “soil”, extreme heat and humidity, wind and hurricanes, lots of bugs and disease! Our garden consists of 44 roses, mainly for exhibiting in shows. Videos on this channel consist of the challenges and victories in our garden.

Thanks so much for answering my question!!! I have a Mr. Lincoln that’s easily 30 years old (inherited from grandma) Mr Lincoln is amazing but I’m about pastel roses and will absolutely add secret to my garden. I just planted a crescendo this morning. I posted a short video of some of my roses in bloom here in NJ 7a. Thanks so much for posting quality content!

You are quite welcome. Anytime you give away a bouquet of flowers, peoples first instinct is to smell them! It’s nice to have a stem or two of something fragrant! Fragrant roses really separate themselves from store bought ones.

Thanks for this interesting video, so informative. What do you think of Prince Jardinier (Meilland)? I love the shape of it, the pale pink colour and the perfume: do you know if it's easy to grow? Susceptible to disease?

I am looking for a Floribunda rose in a golden orange with a strong scent. What can you recommend? Also I am looking for the same thing except in purple. I already have quite a few highbred teas such as double delight which is better in real life. Thank you for your video, Juliette

I heard diluted milk is great for black spot treatment. I'm trying it tomorrow. I think i had Double Delight once, it sure looked like it. The perfumed was so intensed. It died after pest attack about a year later. I bought a replacement online 2 weeks ago, looks really like Double Delight but no scent at all! Does Double Delight has fragrant petals or is the scent only in the stamens?

Austins are charming but have their issues, like excessive flopping, losing color, burning, not great as cutflowers in most cases.. but I love them as well.
