The Tornado siren doesn't even sound like a tornado siren. It sounds like a sick, twisted, run down, carnival rendition of a tornado siren. Sp00k.

Same here. I live in Western NY at the shores of Lake Ontario and we have gotten our share of severe thunderstorms that left a significant amount of damage. One of these t-storms was created from several cells over the lake and they turned into a bow echo. The lightning was crazy. There have been small F-0 or maybe even F-1 tornadoes in the more rural areas. As long as there isn't too much damage in my neighborhood, I LOVE big thunderstorms. I used to be scared of them if one happened in the middle of the night, lol.

We have an ideal combination of warm air coming up from the Caribbean mingling with the west-to-east movement of the cold jet stream from Canada. The two systems interact at right angles over large areas of open plains. Hence tornadoes everywhere.

Having grown up in McKinney, that elementary school and D.R. Horton home is unmistakable. That's my elementary school, Reuben Johnson Elementary.
There was one occasion while I went to school there where the sirens sounded and all of us kids had to get down in the hallways. The tornado siren is located about the same distance from the school on the opposite side and I can remember that it was absolutely deafeningly loud.
I wish I knew what year this was filmed in, perhaps I was in the building while this was happening.

These tornado sirens sound like a cartoon! Hell. When they went off in Northern Kentucky, they ramped up'd and stayed up. They didn't go up and down! That was what was so frightening. They just left a drone of different and dissonant tones across so many counties that hovered there without any warbling. They were a constant and steady dissonant roar as they spun around on their axis.

I think on a primal level, sirens are designed to mimic the sound of howling wolves (think about how emergency vehicles sound, too). The changing wave frequency travels great distances and is easy to hear over other ambient noise. It trigger a gut reaction from us that we understand as a warning.
