Severe Storm in Texas with Tornado Sirens

- On June 10th, 2009 at about 7:00pm a line of very strong severe storms that were moving east at 50 mph made it's way into our area with a confirmed tornado on the ground directly west of our house. Not sure of the extent of the damage in that area quite yet due to the power going out and not coming back on until after 11pm and by then the news was already over. Although I had to go pick up a friend in Plano and can tell you that there was quite a bit of damage between here and there; street signs bent and broken off, stop lights broken from there metal harness and hanging from the poles, power out pretty much everywhere, several intersections completely blocked off for unknown reasons, large trees broken at base; fences down everywhere. In one area in Plano of about a half mile stretch the trees look like they were snapped by rotating winds and debris all over the road so possible small tornado in that location. You can't hear it very well in the video but at the beginning of the first video clip it sounded like a freight train and was the most eerie sound I've ever heard, that's why we said that's a tornado which is unconfirmed at this time but definitely possible seeing the rotation up and down this line was primarily in the front of the line.
Well, like I mentioned in the video I'll update tornado reports when I find out more information. Hope you enjoyed yet again another very severe storm in North Texas.
Also, I apologize for the excess of conversation in the video. I couldn't get my dad, sister, and her boyfriend to stop chatting like a bunch of school girls. - Наука та технологія
The Tornado siren doesn't even sound like a tornado siren. It sounds like a sick, twisted, run down, carnival rendition of a tornado siren. Sp00k.
Лиам Дайер Agreed

reverse thrust nope. This is a whelen running the European tones sounding ‘best possible protection tone’

Was it me or was the tornado warning a tiny bit late?
Onur Polat Nah, it was right on time
Ummm im not sure mabey
Onur Polat ..the tornado came early
Just on time. It's not always few minutes or so early sometime it only giving you seconds to take cover
Onur Polat very
"why do cars drive around?" - because they get bored waiting for their owners at work :/
or:
they're leaving their work
leaving to get shelter
being those people to run around the city to see the tornado themselves
SELF DRIVING CARS!
😂😂😂😂 classic blond momment
The father is a condescending dick.
If I were a car I would a take a drive
What an experience!
That siren, however, took the seriousness away for second... that damn thing sounded like something from Scooby Doo.
Can I please have my name back?
jk you can keep it. :3
(Survey Corps) Amethyst the Lucario Well Amethyst is my actual name so... -_- lol
Oh.
Well Amethyst is my birthstone, so it's my nickname.
(Survey Corps) Amethyst the Lucario So someone should give you this mega-crown with a huge Amethyst stone in it that shoots lasers.
K cool
Is it weird that I love the sound of tornado sirens?
Jesy Helms Not at all! me and a bunch of other people do too
Eu tambem )
Nope - I love them too lol
+1 I love them too, especially the ww2 air raid siren
I live right in front of a tornado siren, please take it😂😂
You Americans get some really impressive weather. Most we ever get over here is a strong wind and a week of rain.
Andreus Where are you, in the UK? I just had to laugh because I'm based south east of england and all we ever get is rain. To be honest though we've had about two to three-ish months of just hot sun & no rain. But these last couple days have just been rain.
Andreus Do you know the story of the burning of Washington? US weather chased the British out of town after only holding the capital for a day.
Lol. Dude, here in California, this almost never happens, unless it's the winter. Even then, it's still rare.
+Andreus Well yeah we get the severe weather.. -.-
+Andreus Here in Texas we haven't had much natural disasters here. At least not in the area I'm living in

"This is a tornado warning. Residents should immediately take cover. This is a tornado warning."

lmao XD
Lol
+Ryan Eccles I'm so done LOL.
Lol😂
LOL
I don't know which is creepier: the sound of that siren or the storm itself.
You should hear the ones in Chicago, that shit is hella creepy
Jaz Babickas. Fuck that 😂
CJWJR I vote for the siren. That is weird
I will have to say both
CJWJR I think both are scary 😥😥😥 but that's part of mother nature you can't control this 😏😏😏😏😀😀😀
The tornado siren is Patrick going LEEDOLEEDOLEEEDOLEEE
Tri State Railfan ProductionsTM is this the Krusty Krab?

'Thanks For The Notice, D-Head.'' LMAO CLASSIC! Made me laugh hard

Same here
That storm looked like it came up real quick. The darkness and lightning strikes was eerie!
+kenpalmer1965 This system was moving between 50-55mph which is pretty quick for storms.
yesterday was my birthday
cool happy late b-day
+Michelle Henry Happy birthday, but let me just say who asked? XD
Lol. My birthday was on May 15 but thanks though. :-)
Ugh I wish I was there for that. It looks so beautiful, I know it sounds weird but I love bad weather.
Same. I'm that kind of person who's like "OMG TORNADO! Let's walk up to it! ;D" But unfortunately I'm from New York. So if anything, there's a siren to be heard, something isn't right. We don't get any kind of natural disasters.
Prynces Jordan same thing with me. we don't get anything here, except for sandy which I was all the way upstate NY for that so I missed it
Same
Matthew Sams ya but i was born some time after that :(
Same here. I live in Western NY at the shores of Lake Ontario and we have gotten our share of severe thunderstorms that left a significant amount of damage. One of these t-storms was created from several cells over the lake and they turned into a bow echo. The lightning was crazy. There have been small F-0 or maybe even F-1 tornadoes in the more rural areas. As long as there isn't too much damage in my neighborhood, I LOVE big thunderstorms. I used to be scared of them if one happened in the middle of the night, lol.
I absolutely love the moment right before a large storm. The wind and the dark sky, lightning the distance. Beautiful experience.
Amen. There's a bit of an adrenaline rush.
That is literally my elementary school I went to, I remember that day. I was 8 and I was absolutely terrified. This is a piece of history to me, thank you.
Me too omg
4:15 sirens
"This is a tornado warning! Seek shelter immediately!"
Well no shit sherlock. Thanks for the advanced warning.
people are to retarded to know that if the sirens are sounding, take shelter, or kiss ur ass goodbye
coolwhip455 , there is a difference between a tornado “watch” and a tornado “warning”. If you live in Texas you would know that, or you had better learn quickly.
But they continue to sit on the porch with a camera only until they start to get wet lmao
@@Allen21758 As a fellow Texan, that's just how we are.
i think it also says it in multilangual such as spanish french german japanese korean and more but it did started off with english.
That siren is pretty weak. The standard air raid sirens are better than that. Check out Chicago's siren if you want to hear an interesting one.
I unfortunately did.... CREEEEEEPY
ValkyrUser its not actually you have to hear it in person.
Hey guys if you want to hear a loud siren is in Germany and it's called pintsch bamag 😎
protip don't listen to Chicago's tornado siren at 3am
The one from Chicago is cute not creepy
4:52 "This is a tornado warning. Residents should immediately take cover. This is a tornado warning."
"Thanks for the notice, dickhead." lil to late lolz
U Stole that
U copied someone’s comment
in the beginning of the video the clouds were rotating. I don;t think I would stand and watch. Also the lightning is very dangerous
Green sky is always bad
Dynasteel K'n'D I had a tornado about a week ago
Yup.
Yep. Time to hide.
yup! sky turns green during some hurricanes. i've seen dark red tint as well
@@cdr9515 red skies are the scariest shit I stg
That's a one weird siren!
You have to admit it's a cool one though XD
I live in McKinney trust me it scares the crap out of you in a real tornado warning.
*****
I can only imagine, I have no sirens, but I live where tornadoes can happen/don't really happen as often as they do in other parts of the US
Yeah tornadoes are scary and yet cool, seeing a giant black funnel heading towards you destroying anything it goes over, the clouds are pitch black, the background sky is orange, high winds, scary stuff , but what makes it cool is the thrill, the excitement oh and stay the hell out of the tornadoes way especially the F5
***** i was on vacation when this happened but this is right near my house
5:18 "Started getting wet and had to go in." Yes, getting wet is much more of a reason to go inside your home than a tornado warning.
To whoever had a 1999-2004 Grey Mustang at The Oaks in Plano, I saw someone hit it on this day when that storm hit. I still remember this day. Every bit of it. How it was sunny and suddenly went dark.
"Thanks for the warning, dickhead" I am dying from laughter!
I've been a severe weather spotter for the past 13 years, so obviously i love storms. just wanted to say that this is one of the best amateur videos i've watched on youtube. great job!
Talking siren tone sounded like one of those carousel wind organs xD. Very short warning too.
What a creepy tornado 🌪 sirens lol 😂
Welcome to Texas
+TexasWolf Texas, the better place to live. ( I live in Van Horn - Tx )
I live in AR
Amarillo, we haven't had a tornado in so long lol
Juark that's a good thing. I heard Marshall, TX got a tornado warning yesterday
+Nakita Box dang, bad thing is that we had a horrible wind storm not but a few days ago.
wtf kind of tornado sirens are those. thats really creepy omg.
Whelen WPS-2800 series and WPS-4008s in Best Possible Protection tone
Try listening to the Chicago sirens
Kenimeme Yeah, lol. They are so scary they scare away the tornadoes lmao.
reverse thrust nope
reverse thrust they are Whelen wps 2908
Why do cars drive around? Because they're cars....O.o
But...then why do planes fly around?
LOL
Holymolypatoly hahahahahaah love it!!! Ya shes not real bright

I would be pissing myself and shitting bricks.
Tampa Bay Lightning that would probably hurt a lot

Tampa Bay Lightning if you can do that
Coming back to this! Little 9 year old me used to watch this video all the time because I was obsessed with tornados. Here I am almost 19 watching it

I've never experienced that type of storm cell here in Sweden. We can get some sudden thunderstorms in the summer, but nothing near what you guys get over there.
its absolutly insane. its sorta scary but fun at the same time being in your basement just sitting there with your iphone and playing games whilst a crazy storm is going on outside.
We have an ideal combination of warm air coming up from the Caribbean mingling with the west-to-east movement of the cold jet stream from Canada. The two systems interact at right angles over large areas of open plains. Hence tornadoes everywhere.
I'm so jealous. I use to live in Florida and we would get some great storms. Now I live in Portland, Oregon where we get none! I miss them so much. It's an exciting adrenaline rush when the sky would start to get dark. Guess I'll have to go on a storm chasing vacation now.
Victoria Kern I live in Florida! And I get NO RAIN!! AT ALL!! I literally saw a storm cloud go AROUND our house! What I'm saying is that you're not missing much, bud.

@@KP-do2ss Thanks
That’s an impressive warning system albeit late but I’ve never heard that kind of tornado siren let alone followed with a verbal warning.
Yeah, they still have it after 11 years!
I remember that line of storms. I was out of school thank goodness.
Lucky
I am 41 years old and live in Holland (Europe) , I can`t remember that we ever had a black-out or even a pause in ou`re electic.
Why don`t the Americans keep all their powerlines above ground?
I do understand it costs money but it`s much better.
Thx for this nice video!
Z. Weertje I'm in Florida and I agree with your question.
They’re starting to bury them now. Unfortunately the transformers are above ground which totally negates the effort..........
I used to love in Utah and their power lines were underground, but then I moved to Florida and they keep them above ground. Kind of ironic considering Florida’s weather is MUCH worse compared to Utah’s (hurricanes, tornadoes, etc)😩😂
Cost, especially to repair - much cheaper above ground, and far simpler to diagnost issue. Hopelijk is dat nuttig.
This looks scary! I live in Stockholm and we almost never have hard weather here.
Best Possible Protection-pause-Best Possible Protection-Voice. Nice and Rare catch of a Whelen doing BPP. Believe it or not, siren is not broken nor is it an ATI.
stupid non-air raid sirens. they take all the fun out of tornado warnings.
i agree hell even a FS2001 sounds better then those things lol
wolvesone it is a European tone for WHELEN
nick06111226 Because McKinney's sirens sound crap alternate tones.
I'd rather listen to a P50 And Allertor In Alert Altogether then the Whelen WPS-2910 in "Best Possible Protection"
Mystic Havoc k
When one of you said, "Hear that sound?" and then the guy stands up and says "That's a tornado", I could feel the tension. Well done. Some day I shall experience a tornado for real.
How in bloody hell are they so calm-
OMG the question responses are so epic. LOL "Because they're going home from work."
I hate when it's sunny
I'm not the only one
Same OMG
I love it
+Yari Zapata Same here, you're cute btw.
+ZKDARKSHADOW692 Me too
sounds like a cat choking on a big ice cube while dancing to the chicken dance
i love it when there is severe storms and you can hear the alert tone fade in and out from the modulators...nostalgia
This is still better quality than most videos on YT.
I remember this. I live in Allen. My sirens are quieter than this, however I was able to hear these sirens from my freaking shelter!
I love extreme weather. For some reason it's relaxing and exciting to me.
Don't do that shit with your Icon
Not me I freak out all kinds of crazy stuff starts running through my mind
Strange sounding siren.
those sirens sound wierd
That sounds like someone getting motorboated
It's a whelen
I fucking hate that siren, its so fucking creepy.
*****
LOL!
That siren sounded scary whats the name of it?
A Whelen WPS model
whelen tornado siren wail
Yep, it gives you chills and goosebumps
+HELLO!!! Charles what about the ones in Chicago?
A European Whelen or Modulator, It uses the Danish siren tone.
I love feeling the winds from a thunderstorm
That was the worst tornado siren I've ever heard, not to mention only running 4 times and switching to running in another place only twice, shouldn't it keep going until there's no further danger, and in everywhere at once???
The1CelticTiger no. Sirens are not supposed to sound until the danger is over. Their job is to tell people to get inside and get more information about the danger
It's McKinney
Take cover now!! Get into a basement or shelter and grab some water and a radio to get updates. Also grab blankets and snacks.
unlikely to find a basement in Plano area - get in a closet on an inside wall or lay in a bathtub with a heavy piece of rug over you to slow debris...
This system of storms moved to where I live a few hours after it hit you. It knocked my power out, woke me up, and I didn't even know there was a tornado until the next morning.
Having grown up in McKinney, that elementary school and D.R. Horton home is unmistakable. That's my elementary school, Reuben Johnson Elementary.
There was one occasion while I went to school there where the sirens sounded and all of us kids had to get down in the hallways. The tornado siren is located about the same distance from the school on the opposite side and I can remember that it was absolutely deafeningly loud.
I wish I knew what year this was filmed in, perhaps I was in the building while this was happening.
I love thunderstorms!!
Elsa Manson I like them too but not lightning. Lol
@@traceytaibinger9512 hey 👋 there how are you doing this morning I’m just woundering ok 👌 Bud. Lol 😂.
Not me. I react to loud thunder
God bless them and for everyone that watched this💜
Awesome footage. Born in the north, I never experience much other than snow storms and hurricanes. Never a tornado. Now living in the south (GA), potential is greater. Thanks for the footage.
I was 3 when this happened I used to live in Texas and I actually remember the sirens going on and I was crying my eyes out it is such a scary memory
I remember watching this as a kid...I loved tornado videos back then.
Those sirens most definitely sound more creepy than the Chicago ones.
Used to live in the apartments on Skyline Drive about a mile away from that school. I went there in the 2nd grade. Really miss the place, but I don't miss the tornadoes!
-Dylan
“Started getting wet and had to go in” the rain would be the least of my concerns 😂😂
Whoever is in charge of alerting the public via sirens, really dropped the ball. Our sirens are sounded up to 15 to 20 minutes before weather like this starts.
That's the weirdest siren I've ever heard. I was going to say something about needing to go inside but I honestly would be doing the same thing lol.
Wow I can't belive you can hear the transformer from the distance😳
is that good or bad
+Noah Cook that's bad lol
+Gabby Harmon they heard the sound of the transformer blowing up from that distance after a lightning strike.
Oh no!!!! Hope every thing turned ok!!!!
I'm from the UK and we rarely get really adverse weather conditions, we probably get 1 bad thunderstorm per year. As silly as it sounds I'd love to experience weather like this.
I live in America and love storms, we get them all the time here and i can completely understand why you would want to experience it.
Is it weird my tummy turned when i heard the siren😵😖
I think on a primal level, sirens are designed to mimic the sound of howling wolves (think about how emergency vehicles sound, too). The changing wave frequency travels great distances and is easy to hear over other ambient noise. It trigger a gut reaction from us that we understand as a warning.
vulturedoors ohh :) thanks.
Mine did to
Not at all. That's a very normal response.
at 1:40 i was like "GET IN THE FREAKING HOUSE!"
Measured Acorn all it was was a scud cloud. Wasn’t even rotating.
This video is the best example of what a forming tornado sounds like.
What’s funny is that I live in Allen Texas, and my sirens when off way before yours. And the sirens were a bit late...
Little late for the sirens to be going off, the storm was already there, unless they went off earlier I hope.
In the video was the first time going off. They have always had a delay in this area.
3:02 if you listen closely you can hear the south siren
Never heard a tornado warning like that before!
I love the video!!! The sounds before it came was crazy good! Nice video, keep it coming!:-)
5:04 He says "Thanks for the notice d*** head" to the siren and I can't stop laughing at it
I think he should've been grateful that they have them.
As someone who lives in Texas storms like this are normal
Great footage, but the siren was very off putting. Glad y'all made it out OK.
Wow, that's scary man. Glad y'all made it out safely!
what the heck kind of sires are those? I've never heard anything like that before.
Janeil Nold, I agree!! That was not a tornado, but a nuclear siren or an air raid
nuclearrevinton44 it can be used as an air raid, tornado or nuclear
Best siren in the world is the old-fashioned air raid siren. It's haunting and terrifying at the same time.
I remember this, but I was in Indiana, and those severe storms hit up here, we got 6 Tornado Warnings in 5 minutes.
We are monitoring a severe storm in the area now. Stay tuned for further details to come.
Oh my gosh I love your response to the siren. "Thanks for the information d**k head" 😂😂
its also super cool how you can hear the other sirens in he distance
Holy wow! I live in central TX, which is basically shaped like a dome, so we never get tornadoes, but when we get harsh weather have a tornado warning, we don’t have sirens in the city that I live in since we’re like in a dome shape which tornadoes tend to avoid but it’s pretty cool to hear a TX tornado siren!
Those "voice of God" type sirens are so fucking creepy. If I heard one go off in the middle of the night, I would end up filling my underoos, and not because of the danger from the tornado.
Thanks for the notice dickhead.. Omfg! I'm dying 😂😂😂😂 but honestly I wish I could have been apart of this. It's so cool
I love tornado when it gets dark and cloudy
Question, what is a sign before you spot a tornado and if you weren't prepared before the tornado happened what would you do
Ahh lucky to live in manchester England where there's no disasters and 0-4 thunder storms a year
me too
lucky dog. I hardly ever experienced a tornado, but I just cannot take severe weather.
I live in Oklahoma and a tornado tried forming on my house ON MY BIRTHDAY😂
South East England doesn't get any proper good weather either
Zoee 329 try living in Scotland where there’s even less thunderstorms and crazy weather lol. Boring
Why do I here kermit the frog in the back? 🐸
OreoThePhcycoKiller FoLife 😂😂😂😂😂
I love the “best possible protection” tone on whelen sirens
You have to be careful when the transformers start blowing. That usually happens when there are strong winds and in your case, a tornado.
wanna know what's wrong with them? they are wither ATI or whelen. dang electronic sirens.
I'm jealous of america with all the awesome weather...scotland is just constant drizzle and slightly windy or just clouds.
I hate it, its so scary in person.. v.v
Then you'll hate. Houstonian here. Hurricane Harvey was a bitch to deal with. Still in a recovery phase in the aftermath, but progressing nicely and resuming all annoying construction.
Worst we get is hurricane bawbag 😂
Hell, our weather is crappy as h*ll😤. Da worst we had was the Blizzard of '77
We Americans get some pretty interesting weather, North Texas does too.
We had a tornado last year in April here and it didn’t do any damage in my neighborhood. A few months ago hurricane Michael came through and made more damage.
Edit: I lived pretty far from the beach
holy crap i remember hiding in the bathroom with my family at my old house, the big window in front of the house was visibly flexing in and out! the hail was insane
