Unlike most games where you take orders and are silent and dull, here you are a character that chooses not only to fight and do the right thing - even though he kept failing - but chose to develop when he hit rock bottom. Remember when he shaved his head? Right after he quit drinking, so he could fight better and get out of this web of lies and bullshit he was getting sick of. Makes MP3 a quintessential example of a good video game story done right.
my favourite payne game, a man with nothing to lose is dangerous, it's tragic to see what he became in 3 but fucking hell did he earn his way out, we wanted him to be the killer in the end we just wanted to see him be granted peace, no more manipulation or fake anwsers in the botttom of a bottle. Just the peace in knowing who you are, a killer, but not their killer the one who had a family, who once believed in being a cop.

When Max killed Becker, avenging the Bronco family and saw Max at the beach, I really felt like he could put his past behind him forever. Much as I would like a Max Payne 4, he earned his rest.

That's exactly what makes him so dangerous in a nutshell. He doesn't care if he lives or dies ig. He just cares that he tries his absolute best at being a pain in the butt. In my opinion Max has some ounce of preservation, but its only to the degree of "If I die, that's because there was no way out".

Max Payne spends most of the game trying to protect others and failing because he was seeking redemption for letting his close ones die in the past. I think the big turning point in the story when things start going decently well is when he drops seeking redemption and fights to do the right thing no matter how dangerous

Almost a baffling degree of sheer abandonment of reasonable restraint, Max throws himself into the lions den and doesn't care whether he makes it or not. But that's entirely the reason that he 'does' - he has nothing to lose, and those up against him can lose everything, because this is the last chance for them to get out of there and complete their plan. But they didn't count on an unholy, fucked-up and pissed off middle-aged American washed out Detective to go on a rampage straight through their well-organised conspiracy.
I've just completed this game again after a few years and it always surprises me somehow. Health did a great job with this soundtrack, i even used headphones to live more deeply the max payne experience
Max really had amazing character development, from a cop who lost his wife and daughter, then lost new girlfriend and on the end to a hero avenging the ones he lost as a security. RIP James McCaffrey, the legend.

The first two movies played by Jon hamm - Mona sax by Bridget moynahan; at the conclusion in more mature or older version Max played by Bryan Cranston!!! that would be a more efficient trilogy cast and better fitted than the horrible miscast they choose with Mark Walhberg and Mila Kunis.
thats right - you got the point in your main view!!! the problem is that you have to apart the main story from a video game to a movie; in the movies you have to create a sympathy for the character and its environment not make gun ballet movie copying an insane action movie without plot... with mark wahlberg they go with that direction and it was mediocre on their actings and their story. The main inspiration is in the Crime drama stories and with a little purpose on the setting that affects the environment around that character especially the part from his wife Michelle Payne that is based upon his revenge against an entire organization then you put that elements from noir movies or bizarre things such as the trail of blood on Max Payne's head follows on his dream in a dark void - very great scene if they put it in the movie- such examples are like: Jacobs Ladder, the tree of life,etc, the director must took inspirations from that impactful scenes (Dark Noir Ambience) = and for last the corruption from the police and his comrades. is not very hard to put it in a movie but they took another direction and make a mess of a production. thanks for your comment, Camarada.

deffinetly getting a Traffic kind of vibe in this one. Brian Eno's influence, much much intense scene in the game. Difficult fight and a tense one.
